About the property

L’Alize: Private in West Bay, Perfect for 2 or 12, Pool, Kayaks, Ping-pong, 2+ kitchens.

Large enough for 14 but a great value for small groups too

L’alize, vacation rental has provided spacious vacation accommodations to discerning guests for more than 6 years. We have carefully designed, renovated and furnished the home keeping in mind the details most guests would want to find in their ideal vacation destination. From a fantastic private pool overlooking the Caribbean, to a carefully designed path to a private cove beach with loungers, hammocks and kayaks. Guests can expect to find a well-stocked kitchen with potable water from the faucet, as well as extra bottled water with a cooling dispenser in two locations. A support kitchen waits ready for outdoor cooking. Abundant linens and towels are available in the comfortable bathrooms that have plenty of water pressure. Teen tested, internet speed, with 4 routers, we have made it a priority to provide some of the best internet available on the island. Each area is evaluated and re-evaluated to ensure the best experience for our guest. For large or small gatherings, it our hope that the home will meet and exceed guest expectations. Our ultimate goal is that our guests would return to L’Alizé for a repeat great time. Big enough for large groups yet still a favorite of small families or couples looking for the ultimate peaceful getaway. To that end, the rates for small gatherings (4 or less) are a great value. And our rates for large groups are the best we have yet seen on Roatan.

The home has seating for pool side, or beach, seating for 10 around the dining table and seating for 10 in the outdoor Galera lounge. There are plenty of extra chairs.

Convenience and Privacy

While convenient to the most popular beaches and activities on Roatan,  L’Alize is irresistibly private.  The unspoiled beauty of jungle flora and fauna greet you each day as you look over the iron shore.  Surprisingly you are only a mile from the most desirable tourist beaches on the island, West Bay Beach.  West Bay Beach, rated one of the top beaches in the world, is only minutes away and plays host to  great restaurants and  exciting beach activities. Yet at the end of your fun filled day, you will look forward to  the tranquility and peaceful location of L'Alize where, as evening sets in, the jungle tree-frog chorus will raise their voice in  symphony.

Amenities the whole family will like

We understand the importance of investing in your friends and family. When planning a vacation we hope to strengthen the ties with the people we love. We get this.  L'Alize has carefully acquired the amenities that facilitate a fun vacation for people of all ages.  Try out the Kayaks stored at the private beach. Brush up on your ping-pong skills in the outdoor kitchen. Bring Big Blue, outside to play your favorite tunes by the pool, or while playing ping-pong, or just settle into a comfortable lounger with a good book.  If you choose to go your separate ways by day, you can always connect again at the end of the day.  Watch your favorite movies in the quiet of the evening or share videos of your day, on one of two Apple TVs.  With two Apple TVs, kids can watch their favorite shows too.

You may get the feeling you are the only ones there.

L’Alizé is located on 0.5 acre, with pristine jungle abutting the Caribbean. The home is a destination in itself with its stunning location and   multiple porches from which to take in the most amazing display of beauty.  Since most people like the extra space, we have built multiple areas in which to hang out.  l'Alizé has 3 lounge areas, 2+ kitchens and lots of outdoor spaces. If you are drawn to our stunning peaceful location, plan a meal at home, barbecue in the galera or just visit by the gently lighted pool. If you seek adventure dive, parasail or snorkel, A visit to West Bay or West End is a great way to spend your afternoon.  With all the jungle, you would expect L'Alizé to be in a remote part of the island but no, we are located in the heart of the island's most sought-after spots.   So  while enjoying  the private pool overlooking the cove and iron shore or the personal keyhole beach, fitted with beach loungers,  a hammock and Kayaks and a shipwreck at the mouth of the cove,  remember you are still minutes from bustling fun filled beaches of West Bay Beach  and colorful West End is only 3 miles to our east.   At L’Alizé  adventure or solitude is close by.

We will be available throughout your stay.

Our staff is on hand to handle the day to day questions about the house or Roatan, but we also are available by e mail, anytime in the day. With two loaner phones and our contact information we are only a call away.

About Rosanne

The owners live on the mainland of Honduras and work at Loma de Luz Hospital, a non profit Christian Charitable organization. The home is used by the owners and coworkers to get away from the riggors of providing health care in an underserved remote location on the North shore of Honduras.

The owners update and use the home regularly so that it is comfortably furnished and maintained with all the necessary amenities guests might need.

Rosanne purchased this house in 2010

Why Rosanne chose West Bay

A true getaway. Nestled in dramatic untamed beauty on pristine turquoise shores with abundant wildlife, makes this home a refuge as well as a great place to celebrate family gatherings. Restaurants, and grocery stores are only minutes away.

What makes this house unique

L'Alizé has all the modern conveniences of home with amazing privacy.. The view from the second floor great room took our breath away the first time since.. We never get used to the beauty.

L'Alize is a lovely place with all the amenities of home. The kitchen on the second floor has plenty of counter space and everything you need to cook your favorite meals. The BBQ on the deck is perfect for grilling up some fish! It seems that there is a great view of the ocean from every point. Whether enjoying a leisurely brunch on the deck, dining at the large table while gazing through the double doors at the ocean, or sitting on the comfy couch to watch a movie or play games, the view is always right in front of you. The beach is just a short stroll away and is very private. The keyhole (ocean inlet) is really lovely to cool off in, or as an entrance to great snorkeling to the right and the left. No cruise ship tourists have been standing on the coral here! There are caves to explore, iguana to watch scurrying over the rocks and other beaches nearby to visit as well. Some people love to swim and snorkel and explore, while others enjoy laying out and working on their tan. I like to do both and this is the perfect place! The benefits of privacy come with the small cost of a very steep hill to get to the main road. A rental car would be very helpful, but it is possible to walk up the hill and flag down a taxi for the short drive to West Bay or West End. We also got the phone number of a taxi driver who dropped us off and just called him to come get us when we wanted to go into town. Gumbalimba park is very close with zip lines and plenty of wildlife (including birds that will perch on your head and monkeys that crawl across your shoulders!) The dolphin show at Anthony's Key resort is always fun as is the little museum there with some information about the islands. If you tire of the peace and quiet, you can head into West End for some excellent dining and live music at several venues on the weekends. L'Alize is an all around great place to vacation. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a little piece of paradise!

Owner response: Thank you for your lovely review. We hope you will come back soon to enjoy this “little piece of paradise” .

Recommended for:Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Nice secluded spacious home

  • 4 of 5

L'alize served as our home base for a 10-day trip to Roatan. The house was very nice and meet our needs well. The staff was excellent, and Eddie performed over and above the call of duty driving us all over the island with a smile every time. Rosanne the owner was very responsive and provided great information. Here are what I hope are a few helpful tips for future travelers:

- Rent a car or even better arrange to have Eddie drive you. The entrance to the main road is very steep and walk-ability is very limited.

- The keyhole beach is nice, but you really need water shoes to enter the water. Also, use may be very limited depending on the time of year. During our time, the winds blew in from the south making the waves and current very strong in the keyhole.

- On the flip side of that, the constant breeze kept the house cool and comfortable. There were days where the temperature felt very nice on the deck outside the house but was hot and stagnant on the North side of the island. That made a big difference at times because natural AC is very important on the island.

- A couple of the items we hoped to use were not functioning at the time (the outdoor shower and the outdoor gas grill), but we notified management so hopefully those things will be resolved.

- If two families are sharing the home, the layout may not be the best if you have young children (below 8 or so). The 2nd set of bedrooms are two levels down from the main bedrooms on the top floor (assuming the adults all want to use the top floor) and that may be a bit of a gap for some little ones having to go outside to access the main floors.

- As others noted, there are a lot of stairs so elderly guests and very young children may have challenges.

Overall, we really enjoyed the home and our time on the island. This is a great location for those that want to be close to the main activity areas, but still feel like they are away from it all.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to offer such a thoughtful review of L'Alize and your time on Roatan and for being great guests. We love Edier and know his taking guests around in our 16 passenger van, helps them get the most out of this great island. The layout of the home was designed as you mentioned for families traveling together. In the design we liked having privacy over convenient access to everyone separated only by a bedroom door, hence the separate entrances to the downstairs, upstairs and guest house. It really is a question of preference. Most families of small kids like to be in a bedroom near theirs and so we equipped the upstairs, downstairs and guest house units with the features we thought a family might want. Each of our 3 separate living areas have a complete kitchen and small living area where families can regroup. (Our guest house is small and could only accommodate parents with a young child). Obviously when kids are older the adults can opt to stay on one floor with kids on another. Today we are installing a new grill. You are correct in that we got right on it. Happily, we had anticipated this, and had it shipped almost 2 months ago. It arrived just as our other one died. The outdoor shower should be fixed this week as well. We do however, have 6 other showers in the meantime. An island home gets an unusual amount of wear and tear from the salt air. We do it all of the time and are still surprised at the effort required to stay ahead of this. Thankfully along with this salt air comes the most amazing view of the Caribbean you could hope to enjoy. It takes ones breath away, as well as the edge off life when things aren’t perfect.

Extraordinary Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 days at L'Alize. There were 7 of us, a blending of two families. The house is perfectly set up for a large group, with spacious porches and common dinning room, but also incredible privacy if desired. The beach is spectacular for swimming and snorkeling, and the pool offers a nice reprieve from the mid-day heat. The staff is incredibly attentive and available to answer questions or address issues that may arise. Very clean, and the home made meals were delicious. I can't say enough about L'Alize and the people who make it a wonderful retreat.

Owner's Response: Apparently what’s trending is : “ The new luxury is about experience”, the kind of experience you describe. I’m so glad you had such a fantastic time. We are blessed with the location, so stunning & private, but so near to attractions. We do believe L’Alizé has all the makings of a luxury destination and our staff really does take it to heart to provide this kind of experience. But it is also gratifying to read your insightful and thoughtful review. Thank you for being so gracious as to take the time to write it. I only heard good things about you and your party from the staff and we look forward to your next visit.

Amazing setting, Fantastic experience

  • 5 of 5

L'alize was the most perfect place for our group of five adults who were searching for relaxation and a hub for diving adventures. Close to West Bay, the drive was quick to the dive shop each morning. We did take advantage of Edier as our driver and it was the best money we spent - the roads around the island are full of potholes and it does take skill to maneuver. Zuma also cooked dinner and breakfast for us during the week and we could not have been happier - everything was delicious! There were a few power outages, but Edier was great about flipping on the generator when it happened. The breeze that came through in the afternoons cooled off the house fairly well even without air conditioning. I'd go back tomorrow.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review of your stay. I agree the roads are a challenge and having Edier navigate them, relieves the stress of avoiding pot-holes. (Thankfully they are in full construction mode, of making a new surface to the main road, from the West Bay to the East End. What they have accomplished so far is great. Hopefully this big project will be completed by year's end). In addition to helping you navigate the soon to be improved roads, you don't have to know exactly where things are, just ask Edier to get you there- like a live google-map guy. Edier is a great asset. We are so glad you enjoyed Zulma's cooking. It is a nice dip into the culture to have a meal made by Zulma. Mirna, Edier's wife, is also helping as needed. You can even just ask for fresh tortillas to complement whatever meal you are making (corn or flour or both). Thanks again for being great guests.

Love those ocean breezes at L'alize!

  • 5 of 5

We were a mixed group of 5 -- 1 couple, 2 other adults and 1 teenager. L'alize has enough space and rooms to spread out and if you wanted quiet and privacy, you could have it! The ocean view is so beautiful and exactly what we were looking for-we most enjoyed the porch and ocean view over a cup of coffee in the morning and with a glass of wine in the evening! Though the temps were in the 80's every day we were there, we needed no A/C as the house is situated such that the ocean breezes were enough to cool the house and keep the bugs away! The home is well supplied, is kept clean, and very thoughtful on having things such as use of snorkel equipment, kayaks, beach bags, and ping pong table, pool toys included. We cooked and grilled meals at the house; we had all the kitchen utensils and cookware we needed.

We hired Edier to drive us and would not have wanted it any other way. Eddy was available and willing to drive us where we needed to go and one day we had him take us on a tour of Roatan. Always kind and smiling! We loved Eddy!

We had Sulma cook two dinner meals for us--also highly recommend this as it was the best food we ate in Roatan. Sulma made us a welcoming snack of baleadas (traditional Honduran snack)and ginger tea upon our arrival--we were starving and it was so yummy. She cooked us shrimp and beef kabobs with sweet potato/red onions side, red beans and rice and fresh salad with homemade dressing one night and fish tacos with fresh slaw and ginger tea the other. It was the best!

We snorkeled in West Bay (left end as you look at ocean/in front of the last resort on the beach. There's also a wall of old coral there inhabited by curious iguanas) but found the snorkeling right out in the little keyhole was the best. More types of coral, bed of very large brain coral straight out, colorful fish, and of course saw the shipwreck. We were only able to kayak and snorkel out in the keyhole a couple days out of the week because of the rough waves most days. But a must to take advantage of keyhole on calmer days.

What we enjoyed most here was hanging out at the house, by/in the pool and on the veranda enjoying the view!

Rosanne, the owner of L'alize, is very responsive and genuinely cares that you enjoy your stay. She is an amazing host! We had some questions about certain things and texted or emailed her and she responded quickly. Fabulous host and we are grateful for her sharing her beautiful island home with us! Thank you, Rosanne!

L'alize is a beautiful and secluded property!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at L'alize for 7 nights and everything was great from the time we made our reservation until we were done with our vacation. Roseanne, the owner provided wonderful information to us before our arrival and kept in contact via email during our vacation to make sure everything was great.

Edier met us at the airport and took us by the grocery store on our way to the house which is really convienent. Lisa and Sulma met us at the house and were so welcoming. The house was beautiful and well cared for and we had plenty of room to spread out and relax. We did rent the van for the week and even though the roads were in rough shape due to an extra rainy season we were able to find our way around easily. Very quick drive to West Bay where we spent the majority of our vacation. From there it was a quick water taxi ride over to West End to do some shopping and try different restaurants. The locals were so friendly and welcoming and we even had one take us out for a snorkeling day trip. The snorkeling can't be beat on Roatan- it was one of the things we enjoyed the most about the island.

Sulma came and cleaned the house twice during our vacation and that was a really nice perk.

During our stay we had strong trade winds blowing through which was so nice to keep the house cool but prevented us from swimming in the keyhole as it was too rough. We did walk down many times to the keyhole to watch the waves.

We have rented many houses on different islands and this was one of our favorites!

Owner's Response: I absolutely agree that the snorkeling on Roatan is one of the most spectacular aspects of the island. You don't have to wonder if you will see something cool on your outing. What is more, you can do it from most beaches, so it is an easy inexpensive excursion with so much punch. I agree about watching the powerful waves when the wind is up on the South side. They remind you of how awesome the ocean is. It is mesmerizing. Thank you so much for sharing your impressions with us and others. We welcome you back and thank you for being wonderful guests. We hear the road is to get paved this year , so maybe your next visit, there will be no pot holes!

Paradise in el Caribe!!!

  • 5 of 5

Lalize Vacation has been one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been. I am original from Panama, Central America but I live in Texas with my family. Growing up, I used to go to the beach almost every weekend but now, this is a commodity I only enjoy once or twice per year. Our Pacific beaches were fun, but very few had clear waters like el Caribe, which I love. This is the reason I chose Roatan. Honduras as our vacation rental this year. LALIZE not only has one of the most beautiful beaches, but also has a beautiful home, own pool, private beach access, kayaks to explore, ping pong table to play, Van and chofer for 15 passengers, great cook and a wonderful view of Nature. We also enjoyed West Bay beach, West End and Little French Key. No problem to find these wonders because of our chofer Eddy that took us everywhere we wanted. However, this place is not recommended for handicap people or children below 5 years old. The house is built in the side of a mountain, with several stairs without handrail which make the place a little dangerous for Little kids.

However, if you want to enjoy paradise and have the energy to enjoy this beautiful place, I highly recommend Lalize for your next vacation destination

Also staying here, you can help the owners with this great organization they created to help poor kids in Honduras: The Cornerstone Foundation. Awesome people and awesome work!!!
