The cottage is located on the South side/West end of the Island known as the 'golden mile' because of it's preferred location within the only barrier reef on Cayman Brac. The beautiful beach and the calm lagoon allow for water sports year-round. There is no IRONSHORE in this area of the Brac. The Cottage is on the grounds the resident owner and is the only fully furnished rental home in this area and offers 600 square feet of living space that includes 1 private bedroom, a spacious living/dining area, 1 bath, a fully equipped kitchen, and its own washer dryer.
Owner is Licensed Quafilying Broker with GRI, CRS, CRB designations in the USA with extensive experience in Real Estate. Originally from Texas and graduated from College with BS degree. Relocated to the Brac in 1993 . The Cottage is licensed by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism. Pride is taken to make guests 'get-away' as perfect as possible, and the Cottage is fully furnished for a 'home away from home'.
Location, Location, Location: It is in the best location because it is within the ONLY barrier reef with a beautiful calm lagoon also allowing safe haven for boats. This area supports Resorts, restaurants, bars, gift shops, wine and spitrits shop - all with walking distance. Cayman Brac is a VERY safe Island with extremely friendly and helpful Caymanians.
The home offers 600 square feet of living space that includes 1 private bedroom, a spacious living/dining area, 1 bath, a fully equipped kitchen, and its own washer dryer. You do not need to bring anything except your shorts, t-shirts, sandals, and walking shoes. The property has shaded areas for relaxation and of course the beautiful beach with cooling breezes.
My husband and I stayed at the Cayman Cottage-for 6 nights-the cottage is very clean, well equipped, and comfortable. Most important, cottage is on beautiful beach!!! The water is gorgeous!!! Our favorite snorkeling/fishing spot is 5 mins away ( at the most). We had a great time snorkeling, fishing ( my husband), swimming, driving around/exploring island ( including caves and blowhole), observing big iguanas, hiking, etc... We loved how there is no crime-so everyone leaves their doors/windows open ( including leaving keys in car's ignition!). We totally loved the small island experience and the cottage and owner ( Sue) was great. Sue was very nice, helpful and informative. We needed a grill and small ice chest-and Sue provided!! Totally recommend!!!
We were at Cayman cottage this past February and our only mistake was staying such a short time (5 nights). It was so beautiful and restful. Sue's property is very private and well stocked. It was clean and organized, with a pleasant living room, eating area, kitchen and very comfortable bed. Just outside there is a pleasant eating area and hammock. We loved sitting on the beach to watch sunrise or sunset. We also enjoyed snorkeling right in front of the property, which felt very safe and private. Sue was very pleasant and so helpful. We found that we could manage without having rented a car; we were able to walk to stores and restaurants and walk to rent bikes at the Scuba Shack. When we return we may rent a car for a few days to explore the Island more; some of the bike rides felt very long given the single speed bikes and the head winds. We are also tempted to return and learn to scuba dive. Sue's property is ideal for a couple, and also for two or three friends, or a family of three.
Wherever we ventured each day, we were always so glad to come home to Sue's and settle in for the evening. We did not grill but everything was there if we had wanted to do so. It felt like we had our own private place on Cayman Brac although we were on visitors. We hope to return in the future.
I am not sure what else I can say to go along with what most other folks have said here about the cottage. If I could give it 6 stars I would!
A friend and I stayed there for nearly three weeks. We went to Cayman Brac for the amazing rock climbing the little island has to offer. The island is supremely laid back, so this is truly a spot if you’re looking for some down time from…well, everything.
We picked the cottage due to the high ratings given on this site and as I have already alluded, were not let down. The cottage has everything you need, is clean, quiet and comfortable. Sue is an awesome host and if you are willing to get out and meet some folks, she knows everyone, so, don’t be shy.
We also explored most of the island and I will guarantee that you will not find a more private, hand sifted, beautiful beach. With amazing sunrises AND sunsets, her location is perfect. As mentioned in other reviews, the snorkeling is also fantastic and safe due to the natural protection of the reef not far off the shoreline…and it’s all 50 paces out the front door. Not to mention it is very close (you can see it from the driveway) to the beer/liquor store, and a fun little bar/restaurant called the Captain’s Table. Actually, you are close to just about everything this beautiful little island has to offer.
If you want to really see the island though, I recommend renting a vehicle, Sue knows some folks and will be happy to help. You can get a discount just from simply staying at the cottage.
Once again, I couldn't speak more highly of the cottage, location, and genuine hospitality that Sue and really everyone we met through her showed us. There are so many more positive things that could be said about staying at the cottage. You'll just have to come experience it for yourself. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Thank you soooo much Sue, we hope to see you sooner than later!
We have just come back from a fortnight at Cayman Cottage. The cottage is lovely: well equipped, clean and functional. It's location is superb - close to both dive operators (the pick being Brac Shack Shack), close to the airport, the supermarket at Tibbett's and restaurants including the Captain's Table, Tipsy Turtle, Barry's, The Star Island, Pat's Kitchen and Popo Jeb's. You'll need a car. We hired one from the airport and you can pick it up just across the road.
We explored all of the island and I don't think there can be a better beach than Sue's private beach. It is beautiful sand with a number of coconut trees. As guests, we are the only ones to use it and every afternoon the draw was too strong not to get on the loungers to read, sunbathe and then swim. With the outer reef, the swimming is safe without current. When the sun goes down the beach is the perfect place to star gaze without much in the way of light pollution.
To have a private beach to ourselves was out of this world. Why on earth would you want to go to a hotel and share!!
Even though the cottage comes with air conditioning, for the most part we didn't have to use it, with a great through breeze in the double aspect bedroom. The island is so safe that most of the locals leave keys in the ignition and don't lock their houses.
The cottage has a large selection of books, so if you are short on luggage space - there is plenty there.
Sue was on hand to offer everything we needed, even giving me a machete and a hammer to get into some coconuts that had just fallen on the beach.
A great place and thoroughly recommended
We have stayed in a lot of cottages in the Caribbean; this is the best equipped one yet. We will sometimes buy an inexpensive kitchen item and leave it - cheese grater, garlic press, or something like that. I could not come up with a single item that we couldn't find on site. The bathroom includes insect repellents, sun screens, even contact lens solution - just in case you forgot something. The kitchen had everything we could imagine needing. And, of course, the washer/dryer (as well as clothes line) help reduce the amount of clothes to pack. The cottage is very clean and neat. And Sue even pressed us for any suggestions for how to improve it. But she is not an intrusive manager. She made it clear that the cottage and the beach were ours and that she would be out of the way. She was true to her word, but available on site if needed. She is also a very congenial host. With a little encouragement, we did get her to visit with us a bit and enjoyed her company as well as her experience on the island.
The property, including beachfront, is well maintained. Adjacent properties have rocks down to the water and the flotsam that shows up. Not so at Cayman Cottage. Sue removed the rocks long ago leaving a sandy beach and she keeps the debris picked up. Chairs and lounges on the beach have small tables for coffee cup, beer, rum glass, book, camera, etc. And she will remind you not to sit (or park) directly under the coconuts. The trees make good shade, but you don't want a coconut falling on you. Beach is beautiful. Swimming and snorkeling are good, but bring water shoes; all the islands have sea urchins that you'd rather not step on.
There are dive shops and restaurants less than a mile away, at least one restaurant in walking distance. We used the kitchen on the property, so can't say anything about restaurants. Liquor store in walking distance - we took the owner's advice to bring our own rum at about 1/2 the cost of the island supply. Grocery store about 2 miles away (near the airport). There is a bigger and better supplied grocery (Kirkconnell) on the north side in Stake Bay. Ask when fresh produce comes in.
I'm not sure if renting a car is essential. It's a long walk with groceries. Perhaps you could catch a ride? There is at least one restaurant within walking distance. The beach, the birds, and the fish are all on site. For birders the west Westerly Pond across the road is a great place for wading birds.
Cayman cottage shares a property with the larger owner's property. Although the larger house is mostly in front of the cottage, all the beautiful sandy beach is very much yours while you stay there. The cottage has everything you need, and the owner knows everyone and everything to do with CB.
Food shopping is a short drive away and there are some restaurants in walking distance. Delicious conch in coconut and rum punch at the Coral Isle Club Bar
There are many places to snorkel from the shore. Read the guides and look for the "easy entry" sites (it is actually the exits which are not so easy).
Great place for a totally relaxing holiday.
The Cottage is in the 'Golden Mile' - south side/west end of Cayman Brac and the only rental home in this area. This is the best location offering easy walking to Resorts, 3 fine restaurants, 4 bars, 2 gift shops, car rentals, dive operations and a wine and spirits store. The South side - West end offers beaches that do not require crossing 'ironshore' for access to the water. The Cottage has a folder wth information on all amenities that the Brac has to offer.
The major hotel on the island is within ½ mile and provides additional restaurant/bar access with local entertainment, a diving operation and gift shop.
Within a mile is Tibbett's Square, a center equipped with grocery shopping, gifts & souvenirs and a doctor's office. Cayman National Bank is across the street.
Finally, a post office and the airport are within 1 1/4 mi.
