The home is equipped with two king-sized beds and two queen-sized beds, all with cozy linens to keep you toasty and comfortable. It sleeps a total of 8 people. There is a roomy hot tub tucked into a private space on the north side of the house, perfect for soaking weary bones after a long day of skiing or snowboarding.
My name is Stephanie Calhoun, and my husband of 13 years and I are proud to say that we are now Colorado residents. Both of us were born and raised in California and traded in the beaches for the mountains of Colorado which were calling us. The decision to move to Pagosa Springs was the best thing we could have done for once we were settled in were presented with the opportunity to manage a historic house right in the middle of the amazing hot springs and wonderful town. As the property manager, I aim to give each and every guest the experience they deserve.
Steph Calhoun purchased this house in 2014
Matt fell in love with the property for what it is and not what it looks like. The house is just chock full of fun history. The first structure, whatever it was, was constructed in 1849, 34 years before the town of Pagosa Springs was incorporated. The property was used as a barracks before the Ft Lewis military outpost was moved to Durango to protect the silver mines in 1882, the home of a Texas Ranger James L. O'Neal from 1896-1915, and in most recent times Herman Willett 1951-1997 and his son and long time resident of Pagosa Springs, Billy Willett who is source of the afore mentioned history. Remodels have produced a 1878 Springfield rifle in the wall of the chicken coup and a tobacco pouch that contained small gold nuggets still embedded in rock from the wall of the coal bin. We also loved the hands-on hospitality that Chris and Anna Dennis had provided, prior to our ownership, and felt it was just exactly the kind of place we wanted to be involved in. Anna no longer manages the property as of 2016 and we thanks her for her wonderful efforts. We have been fortunate to find Stephanie Calhoun and her husband to pick up where Anna left off.
This home could not be more conveniently located for those who want to be in the heart of it all, soaking in the downtown Pagosa experience. From great restaurants, to lively bars, to snow skiing, to fishing, to cool weather and gorgeous vistas, to a dip in the hot springs, to a great game of Bingo right across the street, Pagosa and Historic 408 Lewis Street have much to offer. Really a great place to visit!
House is nice. Lots of history. Hot tub was great after a day of hiking in the beautiful San Juans. Steph was great. Really great vacation. Will be back soon
The house was just right for our group. It's location was perfect, walking most places with plenty of parking. There were lots of towels for bath use and hot springs. Enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the world go by and being able to fix some of our meals there, drink wine and slip into the hot tub to watch the moon come up. Thanks for the pie, of course we went to the bakery. Would recommend to others.
The house was ideal for our vacation experience. Right down town with so many options for shopping, dining, and soaking within walking distance. Immaculately clean! Couldn't have been better.
House was very nice. A/C would have been nice. It was very warm 3 of the 4 days we stayed. Hot Tub was not working the first night which was disappointing but Was quickly fixed the next day. Plenty of room, nice to sit on porch. We had 2 deer in the yard the first day. Played bingo Sunday night down the street and won $100. Would consider staying again as long as the weather was not above 85 degrees.
Loved our time in Pagosa, especially this house! Location is incredible, Right around the corner from everything! Walking distance to all of our favorite spots, The Rose, Alley House, Kips, Goodmans and the Springs. And a warm Apple pie on the counter when we arrived!!!!
thanks Steph for everything!
We rented two houses near eachother for a family reunion and we all ended up spending most of our time at this house. The layout is perfect for large parties and the kitchen is well appointed. One of our favorite features is the wonderful yard and porch to hangout on. There is plenty of parking and the location just can not be beat. We will return again and again. Owners let us in a little early and even left us a beautiful pie from a local bakery. Nice touch!
