Cozy cottage tucked in the woods near the shore is the area's best secret
I'm a city boy from Vancouver, who has always dreamed of enjoying and maintaining an island heritage property (You don't so much 'own' such a property as take your turn looking after it) Traveling is in my blood, but I love the natural wonders and serenity of the Gulf Islands of British Columbia more than anywhere else I have been privileged enough to visit. An environmentalist at heart, I am sensitive to keeping this property chemical free and the house as healthy a living space as possible.
Michael purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Michael chose Ganges
We fell in love with this late 19th century estate when a friend bought it many years ago. Every opportunity to visit that came up, we made it a priority to get there. When it came on the market, I just had to try for it. This is one of those properties that changes your life in so many ways, and all of them for the better.
What makes this Cottage unique
Once you arrive at this property, you no longer need your car. Everything you need is within close walking distance. But when you enter and close the gate behind you, you are in a private world all your own and the outside world ceases to exist. It is the very best of all worlds!

Recommend the cabin
Needed warm clothes until we discovered the heating. Over all we really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was really convenient to traveling the whole island..
Our three night stay
The cabin was clean and tidy, Bed was comfortable. We cut our stay short by one night, because we could not handle the noise from the traffic. The cabin was closer to the road than we thought.
Super easy to book. Exactly as stated on the website. We arrived a bit early and that presented us meeting with Tara who was super helpful. Loved the location, so easy to walk everywhere. We are used to small spaces so this place was perfect for us. Michael also took time to stop and say hello! Thankful we found this spot. Only drawback as most say furniture in the living isn't as compfy as one would hope it to be. But everything else was good. ✨ Thanks again, Michael.
Very cozy, comfortable cottage for 2
Excellent experience and great location in Ganges.
The caretaker was on-sight, friendly and accommodating for our travel schedule.
The owner was very personable online.
A quaint little cottage that seems much more isolated than it really is.
A rustic getaway situated close to all that Ganges has to offer.
During our stay there, our car remained in the driveway on most days. The location on the southern edge of Ganges makes it a breeze to walk to a host of excellent pubs, coffee shops and restaurants. And there is a park just a short stroll away that features pathways through the woods that make you forget just how close you are to town.
The cottage itself, although somewhat spartan, lacked none of the essentials, and was a pleasure to come home to at the end of another day exploring Salt Spring.
Overall, a very pleasant experience and one that we would happily repeat!
Wineries, organic farms, yoga retreat and drop ins close by, many artist studios, farmers market and fair, book stores, video rentals, antique stores, clothing stores, restaurants and delivery, pubs, heritage museums, music venues, theater, old fashioned movie house (current movies though).
When you are on this very private property you would never know that this is all at your doorstep.
