Flat screen TVs in the main living area and in every bedroom, as well as Wi-Fi connection, ensure that you can stay connected to the rest of the world...but only if you choose to do so! Each spacious bedroom is tastefully decorated with queen-sized beds: One in the master BR, and two in each of the additional BRs.
You may want to start your morning by sipping coffee and and watching an Atlantic Ocean sunrise from your front porch. Later, grab a good book and head for your restful screened-in back porch or your backyard hammock. At the end of the day, gather the family or your friends on the beautiful open deck area to enjoy an island sunset, dinner cooked on your gas grill, and cocktails. And all of this while watching a Blue Heron or Wood Stork soar over ancient oaks draped with Spanish Moss.
A secluded ocean beach is steps away from your cottage, and many of our visitors especially enjoying visiting during nesting season of the endangered Loggerhead Turtles.
The Daufuskie Cottage is the only Melrose property that also offers its guests access to the private Bloody Point Resort water taxi/ferry system from the Savannah Westin Resort.
The Daufuskie Cottage is one of the few Melrose beach cottages that has a working gas fireplace. (Most beach cottage fireplaces are now decorative only.)
The wildlife is abundant and breathtaking. The resort is the home of a Great White Egret rookery, where you will see hundreds of these graceful birds settle in for the night. A nest of American Bald Eagles can be found behind the inn, and now and then vigilant visitors can actually catch sight of a Loggerhead Turtle coming ashore to lay hundreds of eggs in the soft sand.
Our island is also great for bikes and old-fashioned walking. In addition to the Bloody Point golf course, as a DRG guest you will have access to the nearby prestigious Haig Point golf course. The Haig Point equestrian center is also available to our guests for horseback riding lessons and pony rides, subject to availability.
And, of course, you will enjoy touring the resorts and the island itself on the premium 6-seat golf cart provided without charge to renters of this cottage. (This is the BEST rental property cart offered on the island.)
Please note that a well-behaved canine member of the family will be considered. Manager must review pet requests, and the guest will need to guarantee that the dog is housebroken, is not destructive, will not be getting on furniture, and that every effort will be made to leave the property upon checkout looking like no pet had been staying there. A pet fee is required.
** The Bloody Point Resort has recently raised its rates for their water taxi service, and guests may decide that one of the other boat services may be a better option for them. A DRG representative will be happy to discuss which service makes the most sense for your group.

Why Deborah Smith chose Melrose on the Beach
As soon as we stepped foot on Daufuskie Island and the Melrose Resort more than 8 years ago, we knew this was the perfect place to create lifelong vacation memories for our family. We are so glad we can now introduce others to this our lovely cottage, and to share the endless stretches of sandy beaches, quiet roads, spectacular wildlife, and...and most especially...a laid-back vacation experience that is reminiscent of times gone-by.
What makes this Cottage unique
This special island is accessible only by ferry or water taxi (no traffic jams here!) from Savannah, Georgia or Hilton Head/Bluffton, South Carolina. No traffic jams here! Daufuskie Island offers a truly memorable getaway for you and your family. Most people who visit Daufuskie fall in love with it. As one visitor told us months after coming here, 'I may have left Daufuskie, but it will never leave me.' So what are you waiting for? Reserve this beautiful cottage as your home base for a unique and wonderful vacation opportunity. We look forward to welcoming you to our island!

Nice house, nice deck.
House has everything you need. Private beach everyday. Management easy to work with and overall great visit. Would rent again for sure. If you have a more than 3 couple rent both sides of the cottage.
We all had a wonderful time. The house was perfect and all the people we meet were very friendly. Look forward to our next trip to Daufuskie.
Exceptionally well appointed and one of the best houses on the island!
We booked this beautiful house for a long weekend for my mom's birthday. The three bedrooms were ample in size and beautifully decorated, as was the entire house. A screened porch, huge back deck with gas grill, and a hammock in the backyard were a highlight. Kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed and more. Deborah greeted us when we arrived at the house and gave the most thorough and detailed run of the island. She prepared us well for all there is to do and see on this amazingly rustic and gorgeous island! The golf cart ( seating for 6) is the icing on the cake! Super quite and fun! Beach chairs/ beach umbrellas/ beach toys for kids. She thought of everything! We will be back 😍
Great vacation home
We had a wonderful time at this property. Deborah was incredibly helpful and the home was very clean and beautifully appointed. We loved the practically deserted beach, which was super easy to walk to (we just walked between the houses across the street and we were there). All of the people on the island were friendly. We also had a great time discovering the island on the fun golf cart (and another that we rented from Island Carts, which was fine). We saw lots of wildlife - fox squirrels, deer, raccoons and a neat pond down the street with tons of nesting birds and a patient alligator.
We managed to get 6 adults and 4 kids into the home. The bathroom situation was a little busy, but was manageable. There was plenty of room in the rest of the house and on the porch and deck. We've already discussed going again.
Some of our favorite destinations were: Community farm (the age 4-9 kids loved this!), Silver Dew pottery, Morning High Coffee, Lucy Bell's Cafe, Bloody Point Lighthouse Museum and walking tour. We also had a meal delivered by Ernestine, which was great.
The empty Melrose properties on our street were sad, but we were happy to help out the community. We had a fantastic time. I think it was probably much more serene and peaceful without all of the extra people. We almost felt like we had the island to ourselves. Usually, there were no more than 2-3 other groups on the beach. Sometimes no one else! Even the Bloody Point area beaches were isolated, too. Looking forward to going back!
Very beautifully designed. Nearly every comfort considered. Features art local to the island. Plenty of room for my family of six. Love that beach chairs and umbrellas were provided. The golf cart was great too!
John - Thanks for your comments and we're happy you loved the Daufuskie Cottage! You mentioned the artwork...The owners have indeed beautifully decorated this cottage, including some art work from the renowned Iron Fish Gallery on Daufuskie. That is one of the many special benefits of staying in this lovely cottage. We hope to see you again on Daufuskie! Deborah Smith, Daufuskie Rental Group
Spacious, clean, lovely cottage with a great backyard deck!
Our week at Daufuskie was a first for our three generation family of 12 (we rented another nearby cottage to accommodate everyone). The Daufuskie Cottage was well appointed, pretty--everything was in great working order. The new two-tiered deck built onto the back was awesome for our grill out nights, too! We rented bicycles for each family member so, in addition to the nice 6-seater golf cart that comes with this cottage, getting around the island to explore was easy. We had a delicious catered dinner our first night from Daufuskie Entertains, had dinner out at restaurants two other nights but brought most of our groceries with us to cook for ourselves. (Thank you, Charles, at CyberValetgrocery.com) Watching the 4th of July fireworks over the water toward both Tybee and Hilton Head from the Melrose beach was a highlight! The 4-star rating instead of a 5 is because we had planned to walk over daily to enjoy the Melrose pool but, due to the March 2017 bankruptcy, couldn't. We instead used the Bloody Point pool (via 15 minute golf cart ride) a couple of days. Deborah was helpful and responsive, as were all of the island residents and employees we met. Thank you for a fun, unique beach week experience!
We are glad we could accommodate your entire group in two cottages, and of course are pleased you enjoyed the Daufuskie Cottage. You mentioned the new deck, which is a big hit with all our rental guests! Great for enjoying meals together, sun bathing, grilling on the nice gas grill, and just plain hanging out. We too are sorry the Melrose pool wasn't open. However, we are glad we could provide you (and all other DRG guests) with access to both the Bloody Point Resort pool and golf course, as well as the private and prestigious Haig Point golf course and equestrian center. Hope to see you again! Deborah Smith, Daufuskie Rental Group
