About Ramona Hodges
In 1989, my husband, Ed, and I, realized a dream to build a cabin in Lake Tahoe. Ed taught science and Math at a Middle school for 38 years and I worked as an RN at a local hospital for 40 years. We have lived in San Jose for over 50 years & have 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren. We are a very close family and enjoy spending time together. Our family has had many memorable times together at the cabin; skiing, playing games, sharing meals, hiking, biking, swimming, and so much more.
Ramona Hodges purchased this Cabin in 1989
Why Ramona Hodges chose Homewood
We had always wanted a vacation home; a place to 'get-away' and find serenity amid the natural beauty of our earth. There is no place more beautiful than Lake Tahoe!! So, one day, when the opportunity arose to buy property in the Chamberlands, a premier subdivision on the Westshore, we jumped at the chance to realize our dream. We worked with a local contractor to plan and build our vacation cabin and are grateful to realize our dream.
What makes this Cabin unique
We love our cabin for the peace, fun, warmth and beauty it provides. In the summer we enjoy walking in the Chamberlands, and to the beach. We love sitting on our deck, barbecuing, playing games and sharing time and love with our family and friends. We enjoy eating breakfast at the Firesign Cafe and dinner at the Sunnyside restaurant as well as other lakeside restaurants nearby and in Tahoe City. We like to drive to Virginia City and visit the historic sights. My husband likes to go to Cabelas on Highway 80, a 45 minute drive, and I like to gamble occasionally at the nearby Casinos. We never tire of visiting beautiful places such as Emerald Bay, Eagle Lake & nearby Erhman Mansion. Our family & friends also enjoy everything the Lake has to offer; biking, hiking, boating, fishing, skiing, gambling, shopping and so on.. One of my favorite things to do is to make needlepoint, embroidered and crocheted art work for the cabin which, in my opinion, just adds to its charm. My husband likes to build things that make our life and our guests lives easier and more fun such as: a giant swing and horse shoe pit in the backyard and a covered firewood shed close to the cabin making it convenient to get wood for the fireplace in the winter. Our children love to ski and snowboard and appreciate the convenience of driving such a short distance to several ski resorts.

Great house! Truly home away from home
We enjoyed our stay during the ski week break. Got lucky to arrive with fresh snow and the house is 5 Min drive from Homewood Ski Resort. House has everything we need, and has a lovely feel of home. Definitely recommend and will stay here again!
Thank you for taking the time to write a review.....and, such a nice one at that!! And, even better yet, you got some snow! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay & that the cabin offered a "home away from home" experience. I hope you come again sometime. Ramona Hodges
Gorgeous cabin, wonderful amenities, kind hostess
My friends and I had an amazing time at Ramona's cabin! The cabin is in a great, quiet location and was super clean! Ramona has a fully-stocked spice cabinet and great cookware for guests to use. There was plenty of blankets and the heater worked excellent to keep everyone toasty! I loved the swing in the backyard, the entire cabin is picture perfect. Ramona was so gracious enough to accommodate a last-minute guest, and let us know of the sleeping bags she keeps on-hand. We all had a phenomenal time. I cannot wait to come back during the summer!
Thank you so much Cassidy! We couldn't ask for a better review! The best part is that you had a great time in Tahoe and, of course, that our cabin met your expectations and contributed to a great weekend for you and your family! Our housekeeper will be very happy to hear that you took note of her hard work!! We are looking forward to hearing from you again!
Very warm and welcoming. It had all the amenities to make our stay comfortable. Loved playing the board games provided.
Good Afternoon Jane: I'm sorry to be late with my response.....lots going on in the family. I really appreciate your taking the time to review the cabin and your positive comments. Thank you so much and hope you will return sometime soon. Ramona
Ramona's Retreat was wonderful. We spent five nights and highly recommend it.
In a quiet community, forested, away from hustle and bustle but easily accessible to Tahoe City, Squaw Valley, lots of state parks, wilderness areas on California side. Walk to hiking/bicycle paths and to the lake. We took several warm up walks through the neighborhood each morning. The house was terrific: most importantly, you could feel the love and got a sense of the wonderful family that has spent lots of wonderful time there. The surprise wall decoration in the vaulted living was a scream! Really comfortable, welcoming, warm. Clearly not an "investment" property with no character.
The patio just off the kitchen was great, with grill, wonderful place to sit outside. There were a number of really helpful maps and brochures about area attractions.
Ramona had answers to all of our questions before arrival, the house was spotless. We had a wonderful time and were delighted with our choice. We felt blessed.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review!! My husband & I have put a lot of time and effort into making the cabin a place where our family and guests can relax after a busy day enjoying all that the surrounding mountains & Lake has to offer! We like to think, and you have verified it, that our guests would appreciate the special decor, (some handmade), that shows how much we love our our second home!! And, thank you especially, for noting the cleanliness of the cabin. Our housekeeper is phenomenal!! She will appreciate the feedback! We hope you will come back!
Walking distance from private beach
Great location to get to private beach. When I was there, last week in September, the beach was open to public but hardly anyone there. I love that! Cabin is plenty big enough for a family. Ramona does an outstanding job with providing information about cabin and Tahoe in general. The price is right if they don't raise it to much. The moose head on wall is a bit obtrusive but that's just me. I got over it🙀. Highly recommend!!
Thank you Karen for your very nice review and recommendation. I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves and found the cabin to your liking. One of our favorite things to do while up there is to walk to the beach, sit on the pier and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake. Very peaceful!! I hope you will come back sometime.
Delightful stay in Ramona’s idyllicTahoe hideaway in Homewood/Tahoma
The cabin was delightful. Very clean, homey, welcoming. The location is ideal- quiet, tucked in the trees, close enough to restaurants, shopping, & a few blocks from the Lake
Good Morning Michael: I can't believe I missed this great review!! I was just going over some of the reviews to see if there were any suggestions for improvement and I found that I had not responded to yours. I am sorry! Please know that I appreciate your comments and am glad you enjoyed the cabin & your time in Tahoe. Ramona

A biking trail, ¼ mile from the cabin, goes north to Tahoe City and south as far as Meeks Bay. Bikes can be rented in Homewood. Boats, Kayaks can also be rented in Homewood and Meeks Bay. Enjoy a chartered boat cruise, (including dinner cruises) on the Lake which can be arranged in Homewood and other nearby villages.
