About the property

Authentic Alaskan Homestead Nestled in Eagle River Valley

Nestled in the heart of the Chugach Mountains, this Alaskan homestead boasts tranquility, breathtaking scenery, and is located minutes away from some of the finest hiking trails Alaska has to offer and only fifteen minutes from downtown Anchorage. Built in 1952, this family owned property has been recently remodeled and updated with modern appliances. The homestead comes fully furnished and offers visitors an authentic taste of the Last Frontier- Alaskan handcrafted artwork, local wildlife & fish mounts, and vintage photographs from a simpler time.

Guests are encouraged to wander the 3.5 acre lot, fire-up the outdoor grill, and search the Eagle River valley for Dall sheep, moose, bears (brown and black), and eagles. Adventurers and photographers alike will enjoy the close proximity to Chugach State Park, the Eagle River Nature Center, and glacially fed Eagle River. After a day of adventuring, guests can finish off their day with a log fire, glass of wine, and favorite television show (DVD player and cable provided).

Venture down to Chugach State Park to explore the half-million acres of rugged, unspoiled terrain that provides endless recreational opportunities year-round. Whether you prefer frontcountry trails, backcountry bushwhacking, or exploring the Eagle River Nature Center, this property has all the amenities and activities you could hope for!

About Whitney Wigren

My wife, Whitney, and I, KC, are both born and raised Alaskans. We appropriately met while playing on the same hockey team at 9 years old; thirteen years later, we tied the knot. Just months after marrying we purchased the homestead from my wife’s great aunt and uncle’s estate to keep it in the family. My wife works for the Alaska Air National Guard and has been attending training in the “lower 48” (as we Alaskans call the continental United States) hence why we’ve decided to open our home to Alaska’s great travelers.

Whitney Wigren purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Whitney Wigren chose Alaska

Built in 1952 by my wife’s great uncle, Smoky, this log home was an original homestead of east Eagle River, AK. Originally allotted 160 acres, Smoky sold the land over the years down to the remaining 3.5 acre property my wife and I now own today. This property will provide you a glimpse of how the old timers lived before Alaska's infrastructure was developed.

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to stay in Alaska! The cabin is perfect for a family. The kitchen and bathroom are updated but many parts of the cabin are original. The view is spectacular! from every room in the house.

Amazing cabin for a large group

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Eagle River location and the size of the cabin. We slept 7 comfortably. It was also really nice to have a full kitchen and the bathroom was beautiful after being recently remodeled. I think the top feature though was the gorgeous view from the back porch area, which was also seen from the kitchen and living room. The owner was so nice and friendly and she went out of her way to make us feel welcomed and accommodated every need we had. If we come back to the Anchorage area in the future, we would definitely stay here again.

True Alaska cabin in great location

  • 4 of 5

Great location and very roomy. So close to many hiking opportunities, a private area yet near Anchorage for any activities there. Wonderful hosts are very accommodating. One suggestion is to provide washer/dryer if possible.

Peaceful setting, gorgeous view!

  • 5 of 5

So quiet and peaceful at this property. We enjoyed taking day trips from Eagle River and drinking morning coffee overlooking the mountains and valley. House was spacious and well stocked. Loved being away from the crowds but 5 minutes from town. Would definitely stay here again!

Nice and beautiful views!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 3 nights during Memorial Day Weekend. The cabin is exactly as described and the pictures are true indication of what you get. The property has some additional buildings and sheds nearby which are used by the owners for storage. Whitney was very responsive, easy to work with, and very helpful. One side of the cabin faces the mountains and it is a special view to see out the windows or at the picnic table. The location is great for accessing the surrounding area. The bathroom had just been remodeled but it lacked any shelve space for toiletry bags. I think Whitney noticed that issue and mentioned she plans on adding some shelving. Overall we were all very happy and would definitely use again if we ever get the opportunity to be in the area.

Gorgeous home with beautiful view.

  • 5 of 5

Loved this place. It was our first trip to Alaska and so glad we stayed here. The view of the mountains is amazing and the cabin is cozy and clean. Kitchen is well stocked. Great location, away from the busy city of Anchorage, but close enough to make a trip and enjoy all that Anchorage has to offer. Loved the appeal of this cabin. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
