Magical secluded location with fantastic view

We had never stayed on Kuaui before and I lucked out when picking this VRBO. I had no idea that it would be so secluded, so well appointed, so comfortable, and set in such a beautiful location.

This property is absolutely beautiful. The grounds make you feel like you are at a 5 star resort. The house was immaculate and nicely appointed. It is a romantic dream with the hot tub and outdoor shower opening right into the two person indoor shower. The place does feel very private but there is something you should know. The listing does not make it clear that there are 3 rental houses located on the same property. They are well spaced apart and you do still feel very private, but I was surprised when we showed up and realized we had direct neighbors. The listing could be more clear on this. You can drive almost all the way down to the beach and then it's just a 50 yard or so walk the rest of the way. The beach is one of the nicest I have ever seen. We almost had it all to ourselves. It was pristine with a fresh water grotto leading to a tide pool that felt like a spa. Checking in was a breeze and the company communicated well and everything went like clockwork. Overall our stay was amazing and we would highly recommend.

Remarkable property and location. Good access to Secret Beach; newly renovated house tastefully decorated. Great property manager Eric who gracefully takes care of the guests requests.

The ideal romantic vacation spot!

My wife and I could not believe how excellent this place was. Super private, breathtaking view, beach access, and gorgeous home. By far the best vacation rental I’ve ever had. Definitely an easy 5 stars!

Secluded....but not away from everything.

Great location if you are looking for some some seclusion but only a mile away from Kilauea. Cute 1 bedroom house with a secluded beach about a 5 minute walk/climb. Highly recommended if you want to get away from all the resorts.

If you want romantic, alone space with hiking adventure thru jungle to Secret Beach book this unique bungalow! Billionaire neighbors and chickens for once in a lifetime getaway. New grocery store and coffee with delicious pastries.

Beachhouse in the sky

Magical place to spend our honeymoon. Private. Beautiful walks down to Secrets beach. My only recommendation would be to add AC unit to bedroom. Hot tub is great. My wife loved the visiting cat to which she named Oscar. Beautiful sunsets sitting on outside recliners

Loved having in-house Wash/dryer. 4-stars because it could use a few updated amenities (new wine glasses, and better quality soaps & shower toiletries).

Amazing Vacation

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Stayed here for five days alone with my wife. Grounds and area are amazing. Property is off of the beaten path in a quiet neighborhood. Good for running, privacy and peaceful relaxation. Some of the furniture is getting a little long in the tooth, but that is a very minor, almost petty gripe. The Local is a must, only 3 minutes away by car or 20 if you walk it.

Not my monies worth.

View was nice. Property was clean and gated. Trek to beach was about 10-12 minutes at best. Bring bug spray. “AC” was standing fan in one room. Others had nothing. Hot tub was filthy & at low temp on arrival. Not impressed for the $$$ spent.

Beautiful accommodations, with gate, private Gardens, hike down to fabulous beach. Everything in good working order, great bed, linens, and kitchen set up nicely. A little warm in Sept, we hit hot weather, but used the A/C inside to keep the bedroom cool for sleeping. There are some interesting creatures around, but this is jungle. A few bugs were successfully kept at bay with citronella candles when we were out on the deck.

Beautiful, secluded cottage, high above the beach

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: A perfect, simple retreat for two. The privacy, the views, the flora and fauna, the hike down to the beach. All of it made this cottage a perfect honeymoon retreat for us. We let the breezes blow through the screen doors most every night — leading to blissful, perfect nights of sleep (but the birds do get up early!) Loved our trips to the beach. Big surf in early March kept us from swimming but it was beautiful and not many other people. The 10-minute hike to the water is beautiful but steep in places. The Kilauea village center with shops and restaurants provided great food and a few other people, when we needed any social interaction.

Perfect for intimate couple's getaway.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It was a very private properry with beautiful views and a great location for a perfect intimate setting. Previous reviews mentioned the AC not working in the bedroom and when we arrived, it was very warm, but we put the floor fan at the entry so cool air blew in from the front of the house which fixed the problem. The closet space is also lacking so pack only real compaint was a stray cat hanging around the house and I'm allergic to cats so it was a nuisance. We later found out prior occupants have been feeding the cat and we were not made aware of this ahead of time.

Relaxing but needs an interior refresh

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The photos matched or exceeded the views!Although the cottage was comfortable and mostly in working order—it needs to berefreshed and updated as the interior was tired-lioking in person. I did bring this to Hawaii Life’s attention and was advised that they would relay my comments to the new owner.We were outside mostly so it didn’t bother us tremendously and the bed was comfortable. My suggestion is to lower the price or stop renting it until the refresh is accomplished.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: In 14 years, we've stayed at Hale Lani at least six times, usually for ten days or more on each trip. The cottage is perfect for two people; we visit in October to celebrate our anniversary, and have come to think of it as our home on the North Shore. Ideally situated, and located just outside of Kilauea, you can easily spend every day at the property or make the short drives to Princeville or Hanalei. The South Shore is an easy drive as well, where there are spectacular hikes in Waimea Canyon or the Mahaulepu Trail, not to mention day sails along the NaPali coast from Kekaha. But why leave? Take the easy trail down to Secret Beach for the morning, where you'll see few people and one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, then run into Hanalei for lunch and a stop at the Dolphin Fish market for an impeccably fresh piece of local ahi, hapu, opakapaka---or whatever the day's catch is. Pick up some beautiful salad greens at the farmer's market and don't fail to browse the shelves at the Princeville Wine Market on the way back, then have a storybook dinner on the lanai at Hale Lani starting with sunset over Bali Hai and ending with a universe of stars overhead. We have a number of favorite places in the world, but this is the hardest one to leave at the end of the trip.

Extraordinary Beauty and Privacy

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Pros: The grounds and the views are extraordinarily beautiful and private. We had lots of fun walking the grounds, cutting flowers and making arrangements. We enjoyed walking to Secrets beach --although we were not able to swim because of the strong currents, it's gorgeous and we felt like we had the beach to ourselves. The outdoor shower and hot tub are very private and so relaxing after a day at the beach. The bed was very comfortable and the room stayed cool with help from nice breezes and the fan. We loved the sound of the rain each night while being nestled in beauty and comfort.Cons: The patio is situated on the hot, sunny side of the cottage --it was mostly too hot to enjoy until the sun went down. The inside of the cottage has an awkward layout and the kitchen is very small. Made it difficult to make nice meals if you're a cook. The cottage could also use warming up. There were no pictures on the walls (still had nails in the walls where pictures used to be), the table was a bit damaged and rough looking, and the blinds were beat up from opening and closing. I expected better for the price. The cottage was also missing small touches like coffee, tea, and basic staples. Other places we've stayed at this price point have included a welcome basket with the basics. About three days into our stay the refrigerator went out and we lost some nice fish, but the management group was quick to respond to the problem. Another misfortune was that an adjacent property was under construction --a major demolition of the house, which Hawaii Life says they were not aware. For 5 days straight we heard the crashing of a crane into a house and cement. We were longing for a peaceful, private setting and were willing to pay the extra so if we had known about the construction we would have made other arrangements. In the end we still had a nice stay. It's not likely we would return primarily because the price is too high for the accommodations.

Fabulous property but could use a few improvements

My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights from 11/30 to 12/6. This was for our 10 year anniversary and definitely a step up from what we normally book or can afford, but it was a special occasion. The property is breathtaking! The most beautiful views we have ever seen, and a short walk down a private bath to secrets beach. We loved the little town that is nearby and had everything we needed from groceries to coffee. It is also one of the few spots on the island that the Nene birds hang out (you won't see them on the East and South sides). We also learned that Ben Stiller’s property is VERY close by on the bluff to the Northwest. We enjoyed stopping to talk to the horses and goats that are nearby the property. This is away from the hustle and bustle of Kapa'a and Lihue, but not a bad drive to get there. Now, for the list of things that could be improved. 1.1. The Spa - For whatever strange reason, the plug for the spa is DIRECTLY below it. The water level is kept very high because of the jets, and when you get in, water is displaced. That displaced water goes right over the side and onto the plug, which trips the GFI. This happenned our first night nd we were not able to try again for two days until it dried out. Then we had to wait for it to come back up to temp. We actually spoke to the spa service man who was there who also agreed it was terrible. This really should be fixed as it is a safety issue. HAving the spa is an awesome feature, but worthless if it can't be used 2. There are tiki torches on the property which are beautiful at night, but all were empty. We had to pay to buy new canisters and fuel. Also, the citronella candles were empty, we also purchsed. I understand that these are additional items to add to the ambiance, but if you are going to offer them, please keep them stocked 3. Communication - there are 5 notices about how to contact the host. I messaged them several times abut our flight delay, a broken umbrella, etc. and never got a single response. 4. the garderner - We had booked an in home massage for 8 am. At around 8:15, the gardners came and were leaf blowing RIGHT NEXT TO OUR HOUSE. I understand they need to do their job, but take a hint. You have two people lying face down, move to another piece f the property for the time being. It was very invasive of privacy. OUr massage therapists hd to shoo them away. It would also be nice for mgmt to advise us when they are coming so activiites can be planned around that.
