Cottage At Goose Marsh Pond near Acadia on the 'Quietside'

Located in the village of Pretty Marsh, our Post and Beam cottage looks across the sloping grassy field to Goose Marsh Pond, the salt water inlet that flows into Squid Cove on the western side of Mount Desert Island. This pastoral site, often teeming with wildlife, offers a quiet, cozy and peaceful spot to recharge after a day exploring Acadia National Park and MDI.

Pretty Marsh is on the western side, the "Quietside," of Mount Desert Island. The cottage has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The dining room has a wonderful view of the water, fields and the neighboring apple orchard. We also have a fully screened "Tea House" in the back yard to enjoy a mosquito-free outside experience.

Acadia National Park is spread out over many parts of Mount Desert Island. The ocean and freshwater ponds are close by for swimming, canoeing and kayaking. ANP's 50 miles of fine gravel carriage roads are renowned for walking, running and biking, and wonderful mountain and seashore trails are short drives away. The town of Southwest Harbor, a charming village with a fine foods market, restaurants, coffee shops, a bike shop, library, art galleries and shopping is a 15 minute drive. The eastern side of MDI (Bar Harbor) where you can find many restaurants, shops, theaters ... and hustle & bustle, is a 20 minute drive.

We loved our stay!

We loved our stay at Goose Marsh Pond with our two kids! Truly such a special and well-appointed home. We enjoyed cooking in the very functional kitchen, meals in the sunny dining room, playing the piano and other fun instruments, reading some of the many books on the shelves, listening to owls while sitting on the screened-in tea house, and exploring the area nearby. Super comfy beds too. Easy and quick access to cute towns and Acadia hikes. And the hosts were easy to be in touch with and very welcoming! Thank you for having us!!

Magical Place

My family loved everything about this rental. We did not want to leave. Karen and Rick placed so much thought into making sure their guests had a perfect stay. Comfortably decorated, ample linens, kitchen supplies, and towels, a binder and helpful notes throughout, The pond view from the dining room was truly special. Convenient and relaxing location to come back to at night after visiting either Bar Harbor or Acadia.

Feel-good house in a stunning spot!

We so enjoyed our stay in the cottage at Goose Marsh Pond -- the hosts built and designed this all-wood cottage themselves and it is filled with lovely, interesting touches. We especially loved the light-filled dining room with views of fields, the pond, the apple trees, and many deer every morning. Comfortable beds, thirsty towels, a well-stocked charming but quirky kitchen, plenty of comfortable seating in the living room for 2 couples, books, everywhere, and a grand piano (in tune), were some of the details that made for a really nice stay. We enjoyed morning and evening walks along the quiet road into the woods and along the pond and of courser all there is to do in Acadia! The hosts were available and responsive to questions we had. We would definitely come back.

Beautiful cottage for families

We absolutely loved this cottage for our family vacation. The details and decor are lovely and it is a great place for families. We also loved the location as well and were able to walk down to the water from the house. I hope we can stay here again!

Special home in a lovely, quiet corner of MDI

wonderful cottage

We had a great time at the cottage - excellent, quiet location; well-equipped kitchen for preparing meals; and nice place to get away and relax. It was exactly what we were looking for. The owners are very nice and stopped by to provide recommendations on things to do and see on Mt. Desert Island. We were also glad for the coffee and muffins that greeted us at the beginning of our stay. They were delicious and a nice touch! Thank you!

Wonderful spot for respite

This was the best place we could have asked for. It was clean, quiet and, most of all, very aesthetically pleasing. We ended up spending less time exploring Mount Desert Island than we originally thought we would, but there was no difficulty just staying at this beautiful place and relaxing for our time there. I sincerely hope we can return some day soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage at Goose Marsh Pond. The property was beautiful and very comfortable as well as convenient to Acadia National Park and everything it has to offer. Great place to come home to and relax after a day of hiking. Beautiful four-seasons porch to spend the day playing games and visiting. The owners were wonderful hosts and were easy to work with. They also offered and had great suggestions about what to see and do and where to eat on the island. Would definitely recommend staying here as a get-away and to take in ANP.

A granite diamond!

Beautiful setting, beautiful home, lovely hosts. A very special place. The home is elegant yet unassuming, crafted with care by its owners from heritage materials. Unexpectedly, the house became an important part of our experience of MDI. Richly supplied with excellent books and everything needed for making great meals, too. Rick stopped by once to check in with us, and it was great to meet him and to learn more about the area. Would unconditionally recommend to any visitors.
