About Marilyn Benemann

We, Carlos and Marilyn Benemann, by mistake took the right turn off Highway 101 across Fernbridge 36 years ago, and have been in love with Ferndale ever since. We own a two-story Craftsman house, built in 1912, right across the yard from your Francis Street Home. We owned antiquarian bookstores in Ferndale and Eureka for 25 years, until Marilyn retired. Carlos continues his career as a California court certified Spanish and German interpreter. We love talking with our guests about books, foreign travel, horses and the good life in Humboldt County. Francis Street Home was built as a retirement dream home for Carlos’ parents. We now want to share it with you.

Marilyn Benemann purchased this house in 1999

Why Marilyn Benemann chose Ferndale

WELCOME ! To a quiet, comfortable, redwood Craftsman style home, on a landscaped half acre. Bordered by Francis Creek, just a block from the city park and downtown stores and restaurants.

What makes this house unique

As you cross Fernbridge from Hwy 101 and drive through the bucolic scenery,

feel the stress from your daily hustle slip away. Drive past the beautifully preserved Victorian buildings on both side of Main Street, Ferndale, which becomes Francis Street after Ocean Street.1 and 1/2 blocks to a long driveway on the left. Turn up the driveway at 176 Francis Street. You have arrived.

Francis Street Home is your home away from home and downtown and the restaurants on Main Street are only a block away.

Perfect place for small family gathering

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from Ferndale! Great stay. The house was just as described! Worked out great. We were met as we arrived. Given short tour and instructions. Everything we needed. All beds were comfy. Extra pillows, blankets and towels. We had wifi trouble but we were told we could come to the host house but wasn't necessary. Felt like visiting family. Great communication. Will book again

Owner's Response: What a kind review. They were here to visit family and see the old fashioned Christmas Tree lighting, which tops new technology wi-fi problems. Ferndale is right at the end of the fiber optic line so to speak (any further west and you are in the Pacific Ocean). Problem fixed after 2 days. It was a pleasure to have this family, and I am glad they all arrived home safely.

The property is in a great location. Within walking distance of everything we wanted to do

This was the cleanest vrbo we have ever stayed in. The refrigerator had milk, butter, and sweet bread. All the pans were spotless. We entertained friends at the house and they were all impressed. Will stay again in the future.

PERFECT

  • 5 of 5

The Francis Street home was perfect for our needs. My sister and I found this home to be beautiful, clean, tastefully decorated with every convenience you could want. Its location was perfect for walking to restaurants, shops and just exploring the town of Ferndale. One morning we even saw a mother and baby deer right in the yard.

We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return one day

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review. The house is located perfectly in Ferndale, close to downtown, but still secluded. And Ferndale is perfectly located to reach all the Humboldt county attractions. Kathy and her sister were perfect guests, and left the house in absolute order.

Owner's Response: And we return the compliment. These guests were very thoughtful and tolerant. I hope we see them again for the classic car jamboree. And they shared their ice cream too!

Beautiful and peaceful home

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Francis Street Vacation Home with my family and we loved it! We were in town for a marathon and hiking in nearby areas and it was the perfect place to come back and relax afterward. It truly felt like a home away from home and I would highly recommend anyone considering staying in Ferndale, stay here!

Owner's Response: These guests deserve a special award. They flew from the east coast, had luggage problems, dodged fallen redwoods and ran a marathon. I am so glad they found our haven in Ferndale and were able to relax and rest a bit.
