WOW!

"My wife and I stayed at Eben's Mountain Escape for 3 nights and WHAT AN ESCAPE IT WAS! The perfect combination of modern comfort and amenities combined with the God-given beauty and tranquility of mountain life. The location is about 20 minutes out of Asheville, NC, a town renowned for great independent restaurants, its artistic community, and mountain-nestled charm. Eben's Mountain Escape's rooms were nicely sized, the beds as comfortable as can be, the fully equipped kitchen (the Keurig coffee maker got a real workout) perfectly located in the home… all overseeing the splendor of the Blue Ridge mountains and right next door (from a mountain community perspective) from Navitat zipline adventure - a MUST DO! I thought I was in heaven on earth - the elevation was certainly high enough above sea level!!! Ultimate, top, 5-star recommendation. Perfectly suited for a family getaway or an intimate romantic vacation. My wife will be visiting again just as soon as we can!!!!!"

Location:

Barnardsville, just north of Asheville, Smoky Mountains. Private home located in a small, private mountain community, 30 minutes north of downtown Asheville, 45 minutes to Asheville Regional airport, 40 minutes to the gates of Biltmore Estate.

It is fairly easy to access the home, via easy, paved roads, until reaching the private gravel road. The home affords year round access, but does require a 4 x 4 vehicle if ice, snow, or heavy rain conditions are present. (In other seasons the gravel road can cause issues with certain makes/models of vehicles.) The driveway/private gravel road does have an incline approach to the home, so in the Winter exercise caution with potential ice, and year-round we suggest front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicles.

Please speak with Yonder representative for more information and mountain driving tips.

Why Yonder chose Blue Ridge Mountains

This home is located next to the Navitat zip line and is just a short drive to most attractions in the area. You can enjoy the night life of downtown and be back in the mountains in just short drive.

What makes this house unique

We always enjoyed the mountain view, but there is really something about being at Above the Clouds. Our conversations linger just a bit longer and our dreams are a bit bigger when we spend time there. There is really something special about being above the clouds.

The best rental house ever!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect rental home! For years we have visited the Asheville area. This is the best house we have rented so far.

The home is beautiful, very clean and equipped with everything we wanted.

The view was magnificent! We were high up without a distressing ride. We also loved the area. It was half hour from Asheville. But far enough away so we were not in the city.

In addition, the beds were the best we have had in a rental. This is the home we will come back to in the future!

Extremely Precarious DriveWay with a sharp bend at the top & had to Abandoned the stay..

  • 1 of 5

I booked this place for 3 nights and we drove from NY with my kids and parents in a big car.

We reached the start of the driveway around 6 pm and tried to climb up to the house on vehicle but halfway through the driveway we realized how dangerous and steep the driveway was. It rained a bit on that day and the road was little slippery. We tried to stop the vehicle half way through and tried to climb up walking to see the full driveway and realized the last part of the driveway is almost 90 degree steep and there is a sharp turn on that steep part which our vehicle was not going to make.

We contacted the rental agency and told them we are not able to climb this driveway and don’t feel comfortable to even try again this dangerous driveway and we don’t have a place to stay. They did not provide us with any practical options , we ended up driving to Asheville and finding an expensive motel to stay that night.

I asked the rental agency for getting a refund for my payment and they told they need to talk to the owner and get back to me on Monday at the earliest. When i reached out to them on Monday they basically said they can’t do a refund with out giving any reason.

I have opened up a compliant case with HomeAway and waiting for a positive response from them.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that the guest experience on the driveway was unsettling and caused them to leave without enjoying the beauty of Eben's Mountain Escape. After reviewing the notes that were taken and speaking to our inquiry team and property management team, we wanted to provide some balance and "our side of the story." Our representative fielded the call from the guest immediately, and as is standard protocol, first made sure everyone was safe and worked to calm the situation down. Yonder very clearly offered the following immediate solutions: -Have Yonder come shuttle the guests up to the home, and leave the van parked safely at the bottom of the development. -Have Yonder dispatch an Uber driver to do the same in an even quicker fashion. -Secure the rental of a 4-wheel drive SUV that the guests could use during their stay. The guest refused all reasonable and proactive solutions that were offered, with no reasonable counter to these solutions. Yes, we are in the mountains and it is a mountain drive, that is inclined "up a mountain", and has a gravel section to it. You have to use care and a steady & even approach to get up to the house; HOWEVER, it is accessed everyday by neighbors that live permanently, along with 2 of our vacation rentals. To say this driveway is "dangerous" is incorrect and very misleading. Eben's Mountain Escape has been listed on HomeAway/VRBO for over 4 years, and has hosted over 500+ guests in that time. You can see the reviews online on the HomeAway sites from prior guests. Below is a portion of a 5-star review posted just prior to this guest: Review #19010030 “Eben's Mountain Escape-Relaxing, Close to Asheville & everything/Navitat, VIEWS!” Great weekend in the mountains★ ★ ★ ★ ★ "If you can, plan on arriving at this property during the day as the driveway is quite steep. Even the road leading up to the property is a one lane dirt road so don't be panicked when your GPS tells you to turn left. All types of cars can manage it, just take your time..... The biggest highlights were the solitutde, views, and extraordinary conditions of the house." We feel we did everything we could do to help these guests and feel bad they did not take us up on any of our solutions. We would love to host them again in the future.

Great weekend in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

This property has amazing views of the Appalachians and is about a 30 minute drive into downtown Asheville. The rooms were first class and the property had plenty of space for 11 guests total. If you are thrill seekers, the Navitat zip line course is only a 10 minute drive from this property so it's a great location if you want to do that. Otherwise, there were plenty of hiking opportunities close by. We managed to head into downtown Asheville each day for dinner and drinks. If you want to leave your car at home to head downtown, Uber is not an option here. You should make travel arrangements with a cab company in Asheville. It's a little pricey, but worth it if you'll be out late. If you can, plan on arriving at this property during the day as the driveway is quite steep. Even the road leading up to the property is a one lane dirt road so don't be panicked when your GPS tells you to turn left. All types of cars can manage it, just take your time.

The property itself came equipped with enough dishes, mugs, a conventional coffee maker (with filters), a single serving keurig, towels, hand soap, and body wash. Everything else you should plan on bringing yourself. The property also has a corn hole set in the garage which was fun to enjoy in the afternoon before heading into town for the night.

For food, there's a Harris Teeter in Asheville or there's a Publix in Weaverville about halfway between Asheville and Barnardsville. Besides that, there's not really another option around for mainstream food.

Yonder, the property owner, was great in answering all of our questions beforehand and prepared us well for the trip. They even gave us a complimentary 2 hour early check in which was nice of them.

All in all, no complaints about this property. The biggest highlights were the solitutde, views, and extraordinary conditions of the house. The driveway is a beast, but you should not have a problem if you plan ahead and be prepared! You'll have a great time.

Business Retreat - Productive and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of visiting Eben's Cove for a business retreat. The home is extremely clean, spacious, and comfortable, and there was plenty of room to meet and work, and also to relax. The loft upstairs provided a nice area with a comfortable sofa, and game table and television for entertainment. The kitchen is well equipped, and the views are outstanding! The home is nicely decorated, the bedrooms are spacious, and the beds and pillows are comfortable. The property exceeded our expectations, and our hosts were extremely personable, responsive and accommodating. I highly recommend Eben's Cove for business retreats, families, etc. Our family will definitely be visiting Eben's Cove for a future family reunion. Thank you for a lovely visit!

Great home in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

Myself and a group of friends celebrated a birthday here and I was pleasantly surprised by now spacious and well equipped the house was. It is newly renovated with balconies on the main and second floor. One note is that there is only one bathroom upstairs where most of the bedrooms are. Also the hill getting up to the property is pretty steep but I made it safely in a rear wheel drive car.
