“Il Portico” is a very comfortable, roomy and elegant apartment in an ideal location in the very heart of the historical center: 5 minutes walk to Piazza Maggiore, the central square. It is very close to the important historical monuments and to shops, cafés and restaurants. From here you can reach any spot in town on foot. There are also bus-stops close by with many lines that can take you wherever you want to go.

The railway station is 20 mins walk, 5 mins by bus.

It consists of 2 double bedrooms (all beds can be put together to form doubles or separated as singles), a sitting-room with a double divan-bed, a live-in kitchen and 2 bathrooms with shower, with the rooms in a convenient layout. it can accommodate up to 6 people.

The apartment is on the first floor of a characteristic building, with a nice wide staircase. It gives on an inner courtyard, is light and very quiet. Inside, everything has been arranged for your comfort and convenience: completely renovated (February 2013), spotlessly clean, very quiet, light and welcoming, with high windows and ceilings.

Il Portico has been furnished with a great choice of stylish, high-quality furniture. It has been decorated with great care for both style and functionality.

Appliances include a cooking range/oven, a microwave oven, a fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, a toaster, an electric kettle, coffee makers, an iron, an ironing-board, a washing-machine/dryer, a hair dryer, a TV-DVD set, a hoover, all new and in perfect working order. Broadband WiFi internet connection is available and included in the price. The apartment is air-conditioned. The kitchen is well-equipped with any cooking utensil that you may need.

High-quality bed-linen and towels and everything that is necessary to make you feel at home is provided in the apartment; beds are new, with top quality, firm and orthopedic mattresses.

Cool in summer and warm in winter, double-glazed, with air-conditioning and a new efficient heating system, comfy, elegant, very quiet, ideally located and extremely convenient, Il Portico is definitely your “home away from home” in the very heart of Bologna.

The street it is in is a quiet oasis during the day whilst it livens up at night with restaurant-goers. The apartment is quiet giving on an inner courtyard.

It is an ideal location for all the interesting places in the city: 5 minutes’ walk to Piazza Maggiore (the central square of any northern Italian city-state). Nearby is the beautiful Gothic church of S. Francesco. From here you can reach any spot in town on foot. If you want to travel further afield, there are bus-stops close by with many lines that can take you wherever you want to go.

Monuments, museums, galleries and theaters are just round the corner with a great choice of restaurants, cafés and shops; the ”Mercato delle Erbe” (a typical food market).

About The Owner

We are a married couple - a teacher of English and a physicist - with two daughters and living in the immediate outskirts of Bologna. We like meeting new people and keeping in touch, that's why we began renting out our first property, Al Parco.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2012

Why The Owner chose Bologna

Bologna is in a perfect location to visit northern Italy, from Florence to Venice. Within short train or car rides are: Modena, Parma, Ravenna, Ferrara and Padua (Padova). A little farther but still within easy reach for a day’s journey are: Mantua (Mantova), Verona and, of course, Florence and Venice.

What makes this apartment unique

We find this a perfect location within the historical center – a quiet quarter yet with historical monuments and shops within a short walking distance. A great selection of typical restaurants and the characteristic Bolognese “Hosteria” nearby with the apartment being perfectly quiet looking on an inner courtyard away from the street. On the first floor with a wide staircase, with light rooms situated in a convenient layout. The area is colorful and safe, lively yet quiet. Advantage of the location: we are at a stone's throw from wherever you may like to go in Bologna, a short bus ride from the Fair District, 1 km from the railway station and 9 km from the airport. No fixed changeover day, schedule your stay for any period you want. Everything in the house is new and is thoroughly checked before each rental. Last but not least: friendliness. We understand that many guests are in a foreign country (perhaps in another continent) and we aim to make them feel at home – any questions and we are more than happy to help.

Great apartment, amazing owners who care about the visitors

  • 5 of 5

We rented the apartment for 5 nights and truly had a wonderful experience. When we arrived, Kenneth met us in the apartment and walked us through everything. The apartment was super clean and everything we needed was available. The location is very close to the main city center and we walked to everything.

On our third day, I caught a nasty virus and was sick with high fever. We wanted to call a doctor to home in the night. Unfortunately, the doctor we found didn't speak English. Kenneth, the owner helped us greatly. He not only arranged for the doctor but also came by to be our translator (from his house which is more than 30 min away). This was at 10pm in the night. He then helped my husband with the pharmacy and the medications. We were so grateful for his help.

If you are renting this apartment, you're not just getting a place to stay, but you are also getting amazing people who really care for you and want to make sure you are having a great stay. Thank you Kenneth and Paola!

Perfect place in Bologna

  • 5 of 5

Our family (2 adults, 2 children) stayed here for 5nights. It was hot weather so we loved the air conditioners (x3). The bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds. There is also a seperate living room, which was appreciated if you needed some quiet time to yourself. The kitchen is small but more than functional. Everything in the apartment was well maintained and clean. The location was also great, it's in a street that is quiet during the day but comes alive at night time (but in a good way), great to walk along and see all the locals enjoying their meals. The old city is about a 7 minute walk, very easy. There are mini marts close to stock up the fridge. Paola was lovely and spoke excellent English. She made all communication very easy. Thank you...

GREAT - Spacious, clean, nice, quiet, safe!

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed staying here and the neighborhood is vibrant and more of a locals scene than touristy. I loved the location, not far from the old town area, lots to see and explore and a pleasant stroll to the train station where I went every morning to catch a train to get to work. The apartment had every thing I needed. The host is super helpful and provided a lot of recommendations on where to explore and eat. And also what nearby towns are nice and easy to visit. She also called and scheduled a taxi for me upon my departure and that was super helpful.

The neighborhood is "decorated" with graffiti as in most locations around Bologna....but do not let this influence your impression of the area. It is safe and fun and not dangerous and I was traveling along and walking around late at night with no issues. The local restaurants are great and they are very accommodating to the non-Italian speaking traveler....but my Spanish came in handy at times.

I travel a lot, stay in super fine hotels most of the time, and I actually prefer staying in a nice spacious apartment over a fancy-ass hotel. You will like your stay here!

There is good flow in the apartment by opening the windows and there is Heat and AC you can also resort to. It is a nice bright apartment with a lot of windows.

The beds might be a bit firmer than you are use to, but they were fine for me.

Sincerely, Adair

Just a perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in Bologna staying at Paola's apartment! She met us there when we arrived and took the time to show us all of the things we needed to know for our stay. She was also available with answers to any questions we asked. She even offered to call a cab for us when we left! The apartment was immaculate and very comfortable. There was nothing we needed to buy - everything we needed was there. The location is ideal and within easy walking distance of the places we wanted to see. We highly recommend this apartment for your stay in Bologna.

Wonderful Apartment

  • 5 of 5

Paola's apartment is great. The photos are accurate. Very comfortable for our family of 4, with twin beds for our girls, which is often not easy to come by.

The apartment has a wonderful feel and is light and bright.

We used Bologna as a base, and day tripped by train to Verona, Venice and Modena to the Ferrari Museum.

Paola met us at the apartment, and went through everything, she baked a panacotta for us which was a delightful treat and thoughtful touch.

She was always available by email, and responded quickly.

We would not hesitate to stay again if we found ourselves in Bologna, and would highly recommend this apartment.
