Hi – we’re Dale and Michele and the proud owners of the Up the Creek. Although we're from Florida, North Carolina is in our blood. Our first getaway together back in the early 1990s was to the Western Carolinas and we've been returning ever since. Dale’s Mom bought a small place in Maggie Valley in the early 2000s and my parents permanently moved to Murphy from Florida in 2010. We know the area well. We've been to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, on the Smokey Mountain Railway, Grandfather Mountain, Flat Rock Mountain, the “Tail of the Dragon” (on Harley’s and in cars), horseback riding, white water rafting, gambling at Harrah’s, Elk viewing and so much more. We just can’t get enough so, finally, in 2013 we purchased Up the Creek. One day this will be our permanent home, but until then we are sharing with others. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Dale Nylander purchased this house in 2013
Located in the upscale Highland Creek community, we have access to the Hiwassee River -- just a short walk from the cabin. A pavilion and a grill are available. You can play in the river, fish for trout, kayak or just relax and read a book. We enjoy sitting on a chair, watching the ducks and looking for otters.
Everything about Up The Creek Cabin, from sending the first email about availability, to packing up and leaving this beautiful vacation home, was an overall great experience! Although we didn't get to meet the owner's, we spoke with Dale Nylander over the phone. He was very nice and kind enough to let us know about a problem with connecting to channels in the bedroom, which wasn't a problem for me and my girlfriend who had stayed, as for we barely turned the TV on. He let us know if we needed anything to just give him a call on his personal phone, so the customer service was definitely 10/10.
The cabin was very clean upon arrival! All amenities were provided, so we didn't go without. Well-maintained property, very spacey and enough room to enjoy ourselves and relax. They provided a folder listed with attractions, restaurants, and groceries listed with directions, pictures and all. Although everything about this cabin was amazing, the fireplace had to be our favorite. Love having a nice fire on a chilly night gazing at the stars. Fire wood is also provided which we thought was very nice! We hadn't even finished our whole stay at Up The Creek before we started telling our friends and family about this cabin, wanting to plan dates to return! I definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a cabin in the mountains to vacate to for a while!
While picking a vacation spot and housing can be a little scary when using the internet, Dale and Michelle's (Up the Creek) cabin was a perfect destination for me. The pictures that were posted really didn't do the cabin justice. My response when entering for the first time was "wow this is AWESOME!! This is truly a special place. Dale made everything so easy for me. Directions, access, and little things about the cabin, made getting settled in so much less stressful. Downtown Murphy is 5 minutes away. There is a public golf course on the grounds of the community, deer, chipmunks, lots of birds, and lot's of peace and quiet. I would absolutely, stay in this cabin again, and would highly recommend it to any of my friends traveling to Murphy from Florida. Thank you Dale and Michelle.
Yes...I did make the perfect choice.
Up The Creek Cabin was beautiful! Very well decorated, lots of space, clean and fully stock kitchen. This was a family getaway and really enjoyed it. The fire pit was awesome, we used it every night. My family enjoyed using the pool table and spent a lot of time in some friendly competition. The separate bedroom and bathroom on the bottom floor was great for my son it gave him his own space and he loved it. The porches were awesome to just sit and relax with my morning coffee. Close to grocery stores and Walmart. We took advantage of the Pavilion that was on the river and had a family picnic, it was so pretty sitting by the river with all the fall colors. We took a day trip into Tennessee and it was nice to come back to the cabin and relax by the fire pit. Easy to get to and the views were great. The owner Dale made sure to communicate with me prior to our arrival that the Satellite Dish had went on the fritz but said they would over night new boxes and have everything ready for us. When we arrived all the TV's worked and new boxes were there. Dale was easy to work with and even called to make sure that everything was in working order when we arrived. Would love to stay here again in the future.
We had a great time sharing this 3 bed and bath home while taking a folk school class. Thanks Dale for sharing your home with us.
We went for a quick anniversary trip with our 4 year old twins. They had things for everyone! A fire pit, corn hole and loads of games and dvds. The porch was lovely and the view of the creek was sweet for seeing wildlife. We spotted several deer and lots of birds! Lots of extras and extremely clean! Lots of extra towels and blankets. Ceiling fans in bedrooms and family room were great! Would recommend to family and friends!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Up the Creek. It was VERY clean and well appointed. Close enough to town for convienence, but isolated enough for peace and quiet. We highly recommend this cabin to any family who want to relax in the North Carolina mountains!!!
Ideally located less than 2 hours from Atlanta, Chattanooga, Gatlinburg and Asheville. If casino gaming is your thing, we’re only 60 miles from Harrah’s casino in Cherokee.
If you like outdoor activities, visit our numerous lakes and rivers for boating, fishing, swimming, white water rafting and tubing. You can hike, bike, horseback ride, picnic and view waterfalls at nearby forests and state parks. Shoppers will enjoy exploring the quaint town of Murphy along with nearby Blairsville and Blue Ridge. The Cherokee golf course is only about a mile or two from the cabin and the John C. Campbell folk school is just 5 minutes away. Thrill seekers will enjoy white water rafting, zip lining or cruising the “tale of the dragon”.
If you are looking to take a drive, visit Helen Ga, the Cherokee reservation, Harrah’s casino, Biltmore estate, and so much more. Take a shorter drive to Franklin to look for gemstones or ride the Smokey Mountain Railway train from Bryson City – both less than an hour away. We have many brochures for you to review in our cabin. Most folks might find it enjoyable to relax on our deck, listening to the creek and watching for deer and turkeys. Whatever you decide, life is good when you are at Up the Creek.
