About Dale & Michele
Hi – we’re Dale and Michele and the proud owners of the Up the Creek. We live in the mountains in North Georgia and the Blue Ridge mountains of Ga and North Carolina is in our blood. Our first getaway together back in the early 1990s was to the Western Carolinas and we've been returning ever since. Dale’s Mom bought a small place in Maggie Valley in the early 2000s and my parents permanently moved to Murphy from Florida in 2010. We know the area well. We've been to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, on the Smokey Mountain Railway, Grandfather Mountain, Flat Rock Mountain, the “Tail of the Dragon” (on Harley’s and in cars), horseback riding, white water rafting, gambling at Harrah’s, Elk viewing and so much more. We just can’t get enough so, finally, in 2013 we purchased Up the Creek. One day this will be our permanent home, but until then we are sharing with others. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Dale & Michele purchased this House in 2013
What makes this House unique
We have access to the Hiwassee River -- just a short walk from the cabin. A pavilion and a grill are available. You can play in the river, fish for trout, kayak or just relax and read a book. We enjoy sitting on a chair, watching the ducks and looking for otters.

Pictures don’t capture the amazing cabin
This place is 100x what the photos showed. The cabin is gigantic, private, clean, and beautiful. Everything just works perfectly here. We stayed while it was very cold outside, and the heater worked so well we had to turn it off. Michelle and Dale (the owners) are both amazing hosts and while they give you all the privacy you need, are also available to talk to 24/7 for any questions you have. Cabin is also ideally located to give one easy access to Murphy and other venues like hiking, waterfalls, and nature. Stayed only 3 days, but wished we had 3 months. Everything was perfect. A+++
We have stayed in many locations, but the attention to detail at this cabin was top notch. The cabin was very clean, decorated homey (but not overdone), and they have thought of everything. There were puzzles, books, movies, games, and plenty of information about surrounding activities. We came for a nice quiet weekend and we couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. I highly recommend this cabin.
Cozy Cabin Life!
Our stay was great. The cabin was beautiful, cozy and very clean. We enjoyed the fire pit and our son really loved that pool table. It was conveniently located to all we had to do & people we had to visit. We look forward to coming back.
Everything I was hoping for and more!
The cabin is gorgeous! It looks just like the photos but is even more breathtaking in person. The area is so relaxing. We loved listening to the creek running through the backyard. Such thought and detail was put into the decor in each room. We felt at home as soon as we walked through the door. We made use of the games, books and pool table. The cabin is located in a great central location to allow for many day trips. We went to Helen, Brasstown Bald and The Dillard House. We are looking forward to hopefully returning next year and exploring more of what the area has to offer.
Murphy to see Grandma Vacation
One of the most beatiful homes in Murphy! We loved EVERYTHING about this cabin! Pictures do not show the homes true beauty!
My friend and I had a weekend class at John C Campbell Folk School. The house is very convenient to the school. We found the house to be just as it was described and more. The attention to detail was notable...night lights, heaters in the bathrooms, handy hooks, lots of games and DVD's.
A perfect cabin.
Ideally located less than 2 hours from Atlanta, Chattanooga, Gatlinburg and Asheville. If casino gaming is your thing, we’re only 60 miles from Harrah’s casino in Cherokee and less than 10 miles to Harrah's Valley River casino in Murphy..
If you like outdoor activities, visit our numerous lakes and rivers for boating, fishing, swimming, white water rafting and tubing. You can hike, bike, horseback ride, picnic and view waterfalls at nearby forests and state parks. Shoppers will enjoy exploring the quaint town of Murphy along with nearby Blairsville and Blue Ridge. The John C. Campbell folk school is just 5 minutes away. Thrill seekers will enjoy white water rafting, zip lining or cruising the “tale of the dragon”.
If you are looking to take a drive, visit Helen Ga, the Cherokee reservation, Harrah’s casino, Biltmore estate, and so much more. Take a shorter drive to Franklin to look for gemstones or ride the Smokey Mountain Railway train from Bryson City – both less than an hour away. We have many brochures for you to review in our cabin. Most folks might find it enjoyable to relax on our deck, listening to the creek and watching for deer and turkeys. Whatever you decide, life is good when you are at Up the Creek.
