New! Private Riverfront Log Cabin near Dahlonega - Hot Tub, Firepits, and more!
Harris Hyde Away — Etowah Riverfront Log Cabin in Dawsonville, GA
Brand new listing and full remodel! Harris Hyde Away is a recently renovated log cabin perched on a wooded hillside overlooking the Etowah River in Dawsonville, Georgia. This retreat combines rustic log cabin charm with modern amenities, offering the best of both worlds: seclusion in nature and all the comforts you need for a memorable stay.
With private, significant river frontage, fire pits with complimentary firewood, a wraparound deck, high speed Starlink internet, and kayaks (waiver required), Harris Hyde Away was designed for families, couples, or friends who want to experience the beauty of North Georgia without giving up modern conveniences. As a new listing, availability and introductory pricing won’t last long, so book your stay now to lock in special rates and dates.
The Space
Set above the river among tall trees, the cabin offers a quiet perch with views of the Etowah below. From the moment you park and step out of your vehicle, you’ll hear the steady sound of the river welcoming you to your stay. From the wraparound deck you can enjoy forest scenery, glimpses of the water, and the calls of nature drifting up from the river. Morning coffee on the deck, afternoon reading under the shade, and dinners at the outdoor picnic table all flow into an easy rhythm of cabin life.
A private trail leads down to the sandy riverbank, where Adirondack chairs rest on a sand embankment, the perfect place to lounge, sip a drink, or simply listen to the current drift past. The shoal at the water’s edge often draws butterflies, adding a quiet sense of magic to summer days by the river. Deer, wild turkeys and order wildlife are common.
A hot tub for use during all seasons to soak and relax.
Inside, the cabin balances rustic character and modern comfort. Vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and log walls give an authentic feel, while large windows brighten the space. A wood stove makes evenings cozy, especially in colder months.
The living room is designed for reading, conversation, and socializing without modern distractions. Books line the window sills, encouraging guests to unplug and enjoy a slower pace. For group entertainment, the second bedroom doubles as a movie lounge, with its sectional sofa and TV. Meanwhile, the loft offers a twin-over-full bunk, a cozy reading chair, views, and TV with retro SNES — a favorite hideaway for kids and teens.
Cabin Features
- Wraparound Deck — Shaded by trees, with plenty of seating and a picnic table for outdoor meals.

Water shoes are recommended for navigating the natural riverbed. Days are best spent at the river, and when the sun sets, guests gather at the large fire pit in front of the cabin, where extra camp chairs, complimentary firewood, and the night sky create lasting memories. A cooler bag is also provided, making it easy to bring food and drinks down to the riverbank for picnics or grilling.
Wildlife and Nature
Harris Hyde Away is part of a living ecosystem. Large butterfly bushes near the cabin attract colorful butterflies throughout the warmer months, and more can often be seen congregating on the shoal at the water’s edge. Guests may also spot deer and other local wildlife moving through the trees, a reminder that this property is immersed in nature.

Acerca de su propietario/a
Propietario/a: Christopher Harris
I’m Chris, a Georgia native with deep roots in the South. My wife, Thao, and I love this cabin and the peaceful setting on the Etowah River. From the beginning, our goal has been to create a place where guests can feel both comfortable and connected, surrounded by nature but with every modern convenience at hand.
The cabin has been thoughtfully renovated to preserve its rustic log cabin charm while adding the modern comforts that make a stay simple and enjoyable. From the wood stove for cozy winter evenings, to complimentary firewood with tote and gloves, to the variety of coffee and tea options and the kayaks waiting by the river, every detail was chosen to make it easy for guests to relax and enjoy.
A big part of why I host comes from my mother. She never met a stranger in her life and set the standard for true Southern hospitality. She believed in making people feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for, whether they were family, friends, or first time guests. I try to carry that spirit forward in the way I host, creating a space where others can experience that same warmth. Guests may even notice a few gentle signs of her beloved cats in the cabin. Those scratches remain as reminders of the love and life that have always filled this place.
This cabin is a place we truly love, and sharing it with others makes it even more meaningful. For us, hosting is about more than offering a roof over your head. It is about creating a retreat where families, friends, and couples can make memories. As your host, I am committed to making your stay smooth and enjoyable. I am always happy to answer questions, provide recommendations, and share local insights. At the end of the day, I want guests to leave with the same feeling I get every time I visit the cabin, refreshed, reconnected, and already looking forward to the next time.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento
This cabin has been part of my family for many years. My father, a Harris, and my mother, a Hyde, built it together, which is why we call it Harris Hyde Away. They both loved this cabin and the land it sits on, and it quickly became a special gathering place. For us, it has always represented comfort, retreat, and the chance to be close to the beauty of the Etowah River.
My wife and I chose to continue that tradition by opening it to others so guests can enjoy the same peace and connection that our family has always found here.
We love this neighborhood because it offers the best of both worlds. The cabin sits tucked into the trees above the river, so you hear the water from the moment you arrive, and the private river frontage gives guests a true sense of seclusion. At the same time, it is only minutes from Dawsonville and within easy reach of Dahlonega, Amicalola Falls, Lake Lanier, Gibbs Gardens, and some of the best wineries and outdoor adventures in North Georgia.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
What makes this place special is the way it balances privacy and accessibility. One moment you can be sitting on the deck with coffee, listening to the river and watching the trees sway, and the next you can be enjoying a winery tour, exploring a waterfall, or dining in a historic gold rush town. For my family, it has always been a place to slow down and step away from the ordinary. Now, it is a place where guests can do the same and create memories of their own.
Rustic charm with contemporary furnishing and decor. Beautiful location which truly helps you feel like you're a million miles away from the world. Perfect for a family or group of friends to enjoy quality time together and make lifelong memories.
