Ask a questionAbout Desra McDonald
The original portion of this sweet little rock foundation cabin was built in 1940’s by a father for his family. We believe it as added on over the next few years, creating a square shaped cabin. In the 1960’s the family added on the back portion to modernize the cabin and included a bathroom, back bedroom and loft area. In 2012, the daughter of that father sold the cabin to a group of friends making it into what you see today...River Rest. These friends have taken almost a year to completely refurbish everything up to current day standards. This includes new windows, all new flooring, new electrical wiring and a total gut and redo of the bathroom. The remodel allowed us to provide an electric stove as previously there was only an early 20th century wood burning cook stove. It was a beautiful piece but huge and unusable due to the fire hazard and insurance coverage. It was sad to see it go! The floods of September 2013 have proved a huge impact on this little mountain community. Everyone is still restoring and rebuilding and looking forward to the future. We are so grateful and blessed to be able to continue to share this mountain property with guests and friends. We are looking forward to creating more history with our families and yours….. Enjoy River Rest.....
