About Steve Geisler

I'm an Ohio University graduate who never left. I love the area, the people, and the enlightenment of a college town. Big on reading in a quiet environment, inside or out, and unplugged music.

Steve Geisler purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Steve Geisler chose Ohio

The outdoor privacy, yet convenience to the city. Creekside cottage has NO visible neighbors; the view is of the creek, woods, hillside.

What makes this cottage unique

Five minutes from town. The comfortable deck, full kitchen, outdoor walks undisturbed.

Photographs from an earlier time?

  • 2 of 5

This property was once owned by Patty and John. Their days of maintenance are over The cabin is now under new ownership. The overall outward appearance was of neglect. The railings were rotten and in need of paint. The umbrella was shabby and torn. The fairy lights were no longer illuminated. The potted plants full of weeds. The inside was charming with many lovely touches of an old loved home. However many windows were covered with ripped plastic and dead bugs lay on the window sills.

Owner's Response: Wow Joan , You title your review ," photographs from a earlier time". That is just it. You make a lot of complaints and claims , but when asked by the Staff if you have ANY photos to back up your claims , you said no. I find that odd in this day in age where everyone is pulling out their phones during any little controversy. On the other hand I do have many photos , all debunking your claims. I did this to protect myself after you insisted I give you a full refund or you would write a bad review. Everyone I have talked to over this matter , finds it very peculiar that you didn't ask for a refund until you got home after staying 3 nights. They said thats like eating a fancy dinner , eating every crumb, then asking for a refund because you were unhappy.... First you tried getting me to refund you over a "bat" flying in your last night. After I texted you I would come over and deal with it . You texted back saying , no worries don't need to come over. Now you shifted to complaining about such ridicules items as I don't provide " Fairy lights " , wow. I had to look up what that even means. I told the people at VRBO , that nowhere on my stats do I claim to provide fairy lights , so please don't give me a bad review over something so petty. Sorry that the "shabby" umbrella and" unpainted rails"' ( to what ), that you have absolutely NO photos of , made your stay so horrible. I wish you would of stated that at the beginning of your stay , since its so bad that you wanted a full refund , we could of reversed your charges if you left...... You mention the previous owners , John and Patty and how great it was when they were here. VRBO has no record of you ever staying here before . So I don't know what your trying to do by hitting up owners for refunds over undocumented claims , I just want to WARN other owners to be aware of this lady and pay attention to reviews other hosts have posted about Joan Greco!!!

A retreat!

Cute cottage! Ideal for our family of four. Quiet but a few minute drive to campus. Would love to see the home/grounds in better weather during a nicer time of year.

Great little cottage

  • 5 of 5

This place is perfect. Feels very secluded, but a quick drive to downtown Athens and all the restaurants/shops. Owners were very easy to work with, and the new hot tub is perfect. We will definitely be coming back in the near future.

We stayed with 2 kids and had a nice visit. Great hikes close to the cabin and going into town for dinner was also nice. Enjoyed the hot tub in the woods. Owner was very helpful and easy to work with. You need a car to get to the location

Peaceful, Private Cottage Just Outside the City

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Creekside House. Steve was very laid back and easy to work with. The place was cozy and quaint, and the porch was a nice place to relax. The backyard was very peaceful as well as we relaxed in the hot tub before preparing to head uptown. We'll be back for sure.

Peaceful and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is comfortable and quiet. We loved the porch and firepit. Everything we wanted to do was an easy drive away, but we could return to the cottage and feel remote, which was perfect. Steve is a gracious host and made our stay comfortable. We hope to come back in the future!

Located in scenic Appalachian foothills. Perfect mix of country and culture, with Ohio University campus and downtown Athens, a small college town of 20,000 students that still has brick streets! There is always great music and all the culture that OU has to offer,

the center of town being a five minute drive from the house. Located near 3 State Parks with boating and fishing. Athens sponsors many community events each year, Boogie on the Bricks, Brew Fest Week, The International Quilt Show, Final Fridays on the Nelsonville Square, Paw Paw Fest, Halloween weekend, the yearly Nelsonville Music Festival, to name a few. The city pool is open summers. Hiking and Mountain biking trails can be found in all the state parks, and there is a paved 35 mile bike trail from Athens to Nelsonville along the Hocking River.
