About Jesse Nunez

I was born and raised in Marfa Texas and now live on the East Coast with my wife.

Jesse Nunez purchased this house in 1967

Why Jesse Nunez chose Big Bend Country

This home has sentimental value to me because my parents purchased it brand new in 1967 and raised me, my brother and two sisters here. My siblings and I have all since moved away and I decided to renovate the home because I wanted to keep visiting my home town and to share my house with travelers to the region. The kitchen is special to me because of my memories of my Mom cooking delicious food and the backyard holds fond memories of my dad taking care of the trees, plants and rose bushes.

What makes this house unique

High quality, comfortable furnishings and upscale finishes throughout. This renovation was thorough and no corner was cut. Casa Amarilla has a great kitchen and the backyard is by far one of the best in Marfa.

Beautiful, well-equipped home

  • 5 of 5

La Casa Amarilla is the nicest short-term rental we have ever stayed in. It was immaculately clean with beautiful artwork and antiques. The kitchen was full of high-quality appliances, cookware, and dishes. I really can't think of anything that would make it any better.

A Perfect West Texas Getaway: Quaint Casa Amarilla in Marfa

  • 5 of 5

Accompanied by our in-laws, my wife and I headed west from San Antonio for a Thanksgiving weekend adventure in West Texas. We used Marfa as our centralized location to explore Big Bend National Park (2 Hour drive), Marathon, TX (1 hour drive), Fort Davis (30 minute drive) and of course the unique town of Marfa.

We were pleasantly surprised by the home in which we stayed in, the "Casa Amarilla" managed by Jesse Nunez and his wife. The house was perfect for 2 couples and we utilized the TV room for our 5th on a blow-up mattress. The house is fully equipped with kitchen wear, towels, extra pillows etc. A beautiful back yard with outdoor seating compliments the comfortable living areas inside the house. This quite simply was like being at home on the road.

Jesse, homeowner, is very responsive if needed. However, we had everything at our disposal that nothing was needed beyond what the house already provided. Nested just outside of downtown Marfa, this house is the perfect getaway if looking to relax, go out and adventure or simply soak in the Marfa experience.

We highly recommend this property for anyone out there! A perfect 10!

Perfect place to get away from it all

  • 5 of 5

Four of us flew out from Atlanta, GA, and stayed over the Fourth of July holiday this year, and this proved to be the perfect getaway. Everything is walking distance, and the weather was temperate enough that we walked everywhere. The house is maybe ten minute's walk from the city square, so you can be in town in no time but it's also very quiet at night when its time for bed. You wake up to morning doves cooing, which is awesome. The house is very spacious, and the kitchen is definitely first rate... we cooked virtually every night. Also grilled out one afternoon using the gas grill, with some newfound friends. Bed was more comfortable than my own back home! Back yard was green, with nice flower beds, and the patio was a great place to just sit around and enjoy the day. The caretaker Orlando personally came over, introduced himself, and made sure that everything was to our satisfaction-- an awesome touch, and I have to say, probably not unusual for Marfa. People here were so friendly that we found ourselves having conversations with locals everywhere we went.

Can't say when, but we will definitely come back to Marfa, and when we do, this will be where we stay. Highly recommend.

Nice accommodations in far West Texas

  • 4 of 5

The house is very well equipped, and very nice through out. It easily handles four adults, but with single bath room your vacation team must coordinate a bit. The hot water tank rebounds fairly quickly (gas water heater) though, so is not much of a problem.

The kitchen is fairly well equipped and the appliances are good. The dish washer was in need of leveling, so the racks readily slide into the room. This is not a big issue, but do be ready for this.

This light dimmers are very nice and allow one to lower the level of illumination in the late evening - - if you are into managing your sleep cycle. If you are into health food, there is actually a small but reasonably well stocked heath food store in Marfa. We had forgot to pack a few items, and were able to find them at this little store. My cell phone (Waze application) guided us right there.

The digital lock on the door works well, but recommend you "test" it after setting the lock to insure that it is actually locked. It takes a couple of uses in order to get the hang of it.

The car port at the kitchen (back) door is convenient when preparing for an outing. It took us 2.5 hours into the Big Bend park each day, and another 2.5 hours back. This is less of an inconvenience than one may think, as outside the park the commute moves quickly along roads that are fairly straight. If you do what we did, by placing ourselves this far away from the park - - don't pass up a good gas station, and be sure to fill up in Marathon before proceeding into the park. A full tank and plenty of water are essential.

I would return to this property and also I would recommend it to friends.

Great Visit to Marfa

  • 4 of 5

Lovely home, clean, updated with great amenities. Loved the kitchen, den and backyard seating. For the first time visit to area, proximity to Fort Davis, Big Bend was great. The only item to get use to is the train passing through, it takes a night :).
