About the property

Plenty Of Room For Everyone And All The Amenities Of Home

Come and relax in a charming, nineteenth century home that has been updated with all of the modern comforts and amenities. Enjoy the view of Mt. Adam's and the Columbia River while you cook a delicious meal in the modern kitchen, listening to music on your iPod or iPhone. This home is full of comforts and details that you will appreciate during your stay, from the vegetable garden and flower boxes that decorate the front porch in summer, to the heated tile floors, claw foot tub and pristine hot tub in the private back yard year round. We've just built a beautiful Ipe (Brazilian hardwood) deck which makes the outdoor living space extend even further.

This home has been recently remodeled with brand new hardwood floors throughout and has plenty of room for everyone. Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the house, the front porch or back garden and there is a plenty of room for outdoor dining, recreation (hot tub, volleyball net available) and even a tree house in the backyard.

The floor plan is modern and open with flexible sleeping arrangements: upstairs there are two private bedrooms with Queen beds and a bonus bunk room for the kids (or larger parties) with 2 bunk beds (one is a Queen, one Twin) and an additional trundle bed for extra room. Downstairs there is also a new sofa bed in the TV room and a futon couch in the office.

The working office on the main floor has a desk and office chair with plenty of room to get a little work done around the edges. There are various comfy places to sit and read a book, including rocking chairs on the front porch, a sunny balcony over the stairway or a wooden chaise lounge on the private back deck.

You can dine outdoors under a grapevine covered arbor, and still enjoy a majestic Mt. Adam's view or there is a traditional dining table with extra leaf and plenty of chairs in the front room.

It is a 2 minute walk to the amazing Hood River skateboard park or a 10 minute bike ride to the Waterfront Park along the Columbia River. A 10 minute stroll will get you to the main downtown shopping area of Hood River full of trendy restaurants and shops. Don't forget to stop by Mike's Ice Cream!

This cottage has it all: all the comforts of home plus all the extras you expect while on vacation (Wi-Fi, hot tub, outdoor dining) and a downtown Hood River location that can't be beat, on a quiet street yet in walking distance to all the best spots Hood River has to offer.

About Karen Bullard

We are an active, outdoor oriented family that fell in love with the Columbia Gorge area and all that it has to offer. In the summer you will find us windsurfing and biking, in the winter skiing, and in the Spring and Fall, hiking, backpacking and enjoying the great outdoors.

Karen Bullard purchased this house in 1998

Why Karen Bullard chose Hood River

We spend most of the summer in Hood River so know what it is like to enjoy a comfortable home. Our house is stocked with the all the amenities you expect at a vacation home (hot tub, flat screen, cable) as well as many extras (extremely comfortable beds, every kitchen accessory imaginable, vegetable garden in summer...). We take pride in our home and are happy to share it with fellow travelers.

What makes this house unique

Sit on the front porch rocking chair with a favorite beverage and enjoy the views of Mt. Adam's and the Columbia River, soak in our pristine hot tub in the private backyard at the end of a hard day on the water or slopes, admire the charm and decor of our 19th century home with all the modern conveniences (brand new hardwood floors, wi-fi, heated floors in upstairs bathroom, flat screen TV in shade darkened movie room).

Great house, great location, great town, great owner

  • 5 of 5

The house was well stocked, warm when we arrived on a very cold night, jacuzzi was hot and easy to operate. Owner Karen was very accommodating and easy to reach. Perfect for us!

Great Spot for Some Good Family Time

  • 4 of 5

This was a well-located and cozy home for some pre-Thanksgiving family time. The kitchen was more than adequate and the 3 small, separate living rooms downstairs gave everyone some space. Our only negative was the absence of any closet space. We could walk to everything in town and enjoyed some chilly hikes and warming lattes. The antique air and auto museum was also well worth loved it!

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciated our great location and comfy home. Yes, not much closet space as typically folks don't stay too long. Thanks for the feedback.

Lovely home near downtown Hood River, OR

  • 5 of 5

We stayed two nights at this property. There were eight of us--6 adults and 2 children. The home has lots of room for people to spread out and have multiple activities going on simultaneously. The walk to downtown takes about 10-15 minutes. Parking is good. One car can park in front of the garage and one or two more by the picket fence. The home has pretty much everything you need: plenty of towels including dish towels, plenty of dishes, silverware, cookware, a great new refrigerator, a washer and dryer, etc. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again should we come back to Hood River.

Great location...a little extra would be nice

  • 3 of 5

Karen, the contact person was amazing. Very responsive and very helpful in all aspects.

Finding the house and accessing the home was a breeze.

The location was fantastic as we walked to town daily and it was simple even with 4 kids in tow.

The front porch was amazing as well as the fenced in yard for the kids to play in!

Unlike some of the other reviews I found adequate amounts of toilet paper and tons of seasonings and things to use in the kitchen was great to have.

Things that could have been better include...

The home itself was seemed a little dirty overall.

The 2 soap dispensers in the bathrooms, were both super old. The one upstairs didn't even work and the soap downstairs was just water with a bit of soap added. It seemed like there was soap available but it wasn't refilled properly? It sounds silly to complain about but it is also like a 3 dollar fix too to make it seem nice.

Some of the towels were very dated and worn.

The blankets for lounging on the couch were dated too. I only found 1 good one to use, which was hard with 4 kids.

All of the games were in scattered pieces and it was a miracle if you could find them all....the game area was a disaster before we even arrived.

Chairs on the back deck would have been nice too, for those who didn't want to hot tub but wanted to hang out.

Overall we really enjoyed the stay and the house. It just seemed like a few small things would take it over the top and really seem worth the money spent.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a nice stay and enjoyed the house with its amazing location to downtown, hot tub and private yard. And thank you for the detailed feedback for as you mention, these are super easy to fix. I will have my house cleaner pick up new soap dispensers, we have loads of brand new towels which I'm sorry you couldn't find and a whole set of backyard furniture which we had just stored away in the garage due to the change in the weather.
