About the property

Gorgeous Newly Remodeled Cottage Sits Right On The Shore Of Long Pond!

A classic Maine vacation destination! Ernest Thompson stayed on Long Pond while writing his 1979 play "On Golden Pond". We are located on the south shore of this famous lake, and you can take in one of the nicest views on the lake from our large enclosed screen porch. This cottage features a master bedroom with attached half-bath, a lakeside bedroom with a king bed that can be converted to two twin beds, and a pull out queen sleeper couch for an extra guest or child. Every aspect of this cottage has been designed and built to create a unique look and feel that is not easy to find. Our property is set in a quiet location away from any busy roads, yet close to the quaint vacation towns of Belgrade Lakes and Mt. Vernon, where great dining and shopping are available. Belgrade lakes are famous for their quality fishing and pristine waters, perfect for kayaking or boating. We offer great swimming, your own dock and swim platform, and of course Wi-Fi.

About Scott and Loraine Bernard

Our favorite lake in the Belgrade Lakes chain is Long Pond. When we had the opportunity to purchase this property in 2012 we could not resist! After a full year of extensive re-design and renovation we are pleased to offer this wonderful cottage for rent.

Scott and Loraine Bernard purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Scott and Loraine Bernard chose Kennebec Valley (Central Maine)

This lake is our absolute favorite in the Belgrade Lakes chain for it's pristine look and feel. Bald Eagles, the largest local population of Loons you will find anywhere, and beautiful stretches of undeveloped shoreline are the hallmark of this beautiful pond.

What makes this cabin unique

Quiet and seclusion, we are at the end of a very long and beautiful country road, perfect for jogging and walking your dog. Our end of the lake also boasts great stretches of undeveloped shoreline that is a pleasure to boat or kayak. When you get to our property you are at the end of the road, there is no busy road running behind us. The lake in front of our cottage is perfect for swimming. There are no weeds, some gravel, and a gently sloping depth. You have your own large floating dock and your own swim platform as well. Plenty of parking for boat trailers with room to turn around is a plus.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely spot

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is lovely, what a well done remodel! The screened porch is fabulous -for morning coffee, for doing a jigsaw puzzle, for having an evening night cap- beautiful view and great soundtrack of loons singing! You really did it right when you made the screened porch- lots of space, comfy furniture and cozy blankets for when it is chilly. The cottage is set near the end of a dirt road, nice quiet roads for taking walks. The water was slightly busy with boat traffic on the weekend but it quieted right down come Monday. It was great watching the loons, herons and geese on the water. Also great to have a campfire and watch the stars at night. Thank you for sharing you cottage!

Great Cabin In A Quiet Location

  • 5 of 5

Stayed there for six days. Pictures do not do it justice. Beautiful spot located right on Long Pond, which has some great fishing. We rented a boat from the Castle Island Camps for a couple of days and were able to secure the boat to the dock overnight, although we were able to catch plenty of bass right from the dock.

It is a great home base if you want to travel around the state. Just an hour and a half drive to the coast (Camden) and up to The Forks for some white water rafting.

Cabin was very clean and had everything you could need to cook your meals. The beds were very comfortable. Except for the loons singing (which I found peaceful) it is very quiet.

Restaurants in the immediate area are limited, but Augusta is a short drive away. Looking forward to staying there again.

OFF THE BEATEN PATH

  • 5 of 5

Just spent the last 3 nights at this nice little cabin. If you like to get away from it all this is the place, it's so peaceful here. The cabin was clean and cozy. The owner sent out a nice detailed document about the who, what, when and where's of the cabin and the local area which was very helpful. The pond and the views were just beautiful. We rented a canoe to paddled around the pond and explore. It was cool this time of year and the heat worked flawlessly. Everything was as stated on VRBO and have no complaints. We loved it here, and would love to come again during the summer, but it looks booked.

Wow.. Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This place takes you away from the hustle & bustle and puts you right in Mother Nature's back yard. Being right on the water is the best part!

The cottage was very clean and comfortable! Lorraine and Scott were awesome and informative. The fishing couldn't have been better. Will definitely be back!

Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This is a great way to get away from it all. Very quiet and peaceful. This time of year beautiful weather. Fishing of the doc was awesome. The canoe we rented was well worth it to get some exercise and sight seeing along the lake. We did spot a beautiful bald Eagle.

The cottage itself was just as the photos portray. Very comfy and roomy. The view every morning was so beautiful and peaceful. The fire pit location is perfect. Smoke never got in your eyes and the view of the lake is beyond it. We enjoyed the fire every night. The last day we were there a full moon and lit up the lake. The sunrise was tough to see because there was fog but if you look for it you see it right out your window.

We loved this place and hope to go again next year!

Thank you,

Perfect get away from it all vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from our stay here and if you are looking or a quiet, private vacation, this place will not disappoint. The cabin is well kept and perfectly decorated for a Maine vacation. We especially enjoyed the location on the lake as it is still quiet but we had a nice vast view of the lake. My favorite part was the screened in porch that overlooked the lake. Our lab, Tucker, enjoyed it too! I took pics of the sunrise every day (with Tucker in tow) and each picture of more beautiful than the next. It was a perfect way to start the day. We also enjoyed just sitting on the dock in the nice Adirondack chairs provided and just relaxing with a glass of wine. The back roads to access the property were perfect for running or walking without encountering much, if any car traffic. Also, we were very happy with the service provided by Scott and his wife. The information they provide prior to your stay is extremely thorough and helpful. They were very good about getting back to me when I had questions and made us feel as though we were a valued tenant. We would book again in a heartbeat with them.
