This beautiful and immaculately renovated ground floor studio on Shem Creek, in the heart of Mt Pleasant, SC is the perfect place to experience the charm of the low country. A large and private lot, separate pathway and acoustical sheetrock throughout have all added to the privacy of this studio, which is situated on the ground floor of our home. Centrally located between Downtown Historic Charleston and the beaches of Sullivans Island and Isle of Palms, this picturesque property provides views of a five-acre fresh water lake, marshland and gorgeous sunsets. Two kayaks, two bikes and two paddle boards are provided free-of-charge so that you can explore the creek or bike to the many restaurants and shops on Coleman Blvd. Enjoy the shade of the property's southern live oak trees or soak up the sun as you fish or crab off the deep water dock. In order to stay home with my two children, my husband and I decided renting out the the Studio on the first floor would be a great opportunity to help subsidize our mortgage, and share our beautiful location.
Jackie Line purchased this studio in 2013
Once you arrive, you will see what a unique piece of property this is. With Shem Creek on one side of the garden and a five acre lake on the other side, we enjoy spectacular views of the lake and the marsh. Yet we are a stones throw to the heart of Mt Pleasant. And only a 10 minute drive to the beach and 10 minutes from historic downtown Charleston.
You will be the only person sharing this property with us. You have access to the creek, kayaks and two bicycles to help you explore Mt Pleasant. Also available is the ability to bring your boat (up to 23 feet) and leave it in the water, so you can enjoy all the water activities Charleston has to offer without having to launch your boat daily. The dock has power and water to clean you boat and catch. There is good fishing off the dock for red fish, trout and flounder.
If I could give this property and it's owners 10 stars I would. The property was above and beyond anything you would need for relaxation including all the outdoor amenities. Jackie went above and beyond to make the place comfortable for our stay. The pictures really don't do this property the justice it deserves.
One of the highlights though were the owners. Both Jackie and Chris could not have been kinder and more accommodating. We had some unexpected events on our trip - nothing to do with the property - and their kindness and hospitality made it much easier to deal with.
We loved staying at the Studio on Shem! Jackie makes sure you have everything you could possibly want or need. We arrived for our week long honeymoon to chilled champagne, a cheese platter, and a nice heart of roses on the bed. It's so much better than staying at a hotel. You have amazing views of the little pond with all the wildlife. You can sit inside and watch them or go out and sit in the chairs, sit in the swing, or picnic table around the fire pit. You also have access to the dock, kayaks and bicycles. You can not go wrong staying here. It's an awesome home away from home.
Jackie and her little slice of Heaven was exactly what my sister and I needed during our stay in Shem Creek. What a beautiful place! My only complaint is that we already had plans in Charleston, and we weren't able to sit on the dock the entire time. :) The sunsets are remarkable, the location is close to EVERYTHING, and the hospitality is magnificent! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
My wife and I have been using VRBO for many years in many locations, and our experience at the Studio on Shem was the best example of hospitality we have experienced to this point. The apartment is inside the lower level of the house, but was still separate from the rest of the house and private. It was so well designed and decorated that my wife spent the first few minutes taking photos.
When we arrived, we found that Jackie had provided a bottle of wine along with a tray of crackers and cheese, and a jar of fig preserves she had made (officially taste-tested by husband Chris) from figs they had grown on the property. They also encouraged us to sample the tangerines that were ripening on the tree outside our window. That window overlooks a large freshwater pond that saw a steady influx of wildlife -- from Great White Egrets and an Osprey, to turtles that kept popping their heads above the water between the ducks and geese.
The variety of wildlife expanded in the marsh and saltwater of Shem Creek. When Chris saw me struggling to catch fish off their private dock, he brought me a bait that he had used successfully, and I caught a variety of fish including speckled trout, red fish, black drum, and small but fun to catch pin fish. And using one of their kayaks to explore the creek was both fun and relaxing.
We took a short drive into Charleston for the Gospel Sunday Brunch at Hall's Chop House. But there were plenty of places to eat in Mount Pleasant. The Red Drum was recommended by Chris. It is a slightly upscale place with a variety of solid menu choices, and decent wine list and draft beer choices. For the more budget conscious, we liked Page's Okra Grill. We were told by staff there that the Shrimp and Grits has been featured on the Food Network. It was delicious and filling.
The Studio on Shem Creek is a great place for those who want to enjoy a quiet and relaxing getaway. Even though it is in a nice neighborhood, there is over an acre of fairly secluded property to stroll around watching and listening to the wildlife. It is also very enjoyable for those who enjoy outdoor activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, and bicycling (all provided). And all this is only a 20-minute drive to downtown Charleston, or a bicycle ride to Sullivan's Island. The owners of this property are truly special. They like to entertain and know how to take care of their guests. We have already recommended this place to friends
My husband and I had a wonderful three night stay in the studio. It was perfect. We felt welcome when Herschel, the dog, greeted us in the driveway and escorted us to our apartment and then when we found a plate of cheese, crackers, homemade fig jam and a bottle of wine waiting for us in the frig. The studio is spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and thoughtfully appointed. We were impressed to find a beach bag containing towels, sunscreen and insect repellent. Jackie thought of everything. Extras such as coffee, paper products, shampoo, laundry detergent were all supplied.
We were thrilled by the grounds of the house and loved sitting out on the dock as well as using the kayaks and paddle boards. It's an incredibly beautiful and peaceful place.
The studio was a convenient place from which to visit downtown Charleston as well as one of the plantations and the ocean.
Both Jackie and Chris were very friendly but unobtrusive.
We would love to stay here again and could easily spend a longer time next time. In addition, we will recommend it to friends.
The studio was beautifully decorated, cozy, quiet, and comfortable! Thank you for sharing your home and property with us. We had a wonderful vacation, one we will never forget. The property was picture perfect day or night. Thank you Jackie for being a great host and also for the cheese and crackers and the delicious honey. It was fantastic! We have already given your name to several friends and family. We hope to stay again when we decide to visit South Carolina again!!!!
