Summary:
Tucked into a grove of towering redwoods on California's wild Sonoma Coast. Curl up by the fireplace after a day exploring coastal trails. Your deck opens onto a private pocket of coastal nature. Room for 3 in this 1-bedroom home. Just a 7-minute walk to the heated community pool. Trails, tidepools, and two heated community pools -- all within reach. The scent of redwood and salt air mingles on the breeze -- you know you're on the Sonoma Coast.
The Space:
Hand-built by the owner himself in 2003, this home brings thoughtful design and natural surroundings to your next Sea Ranch escape. In this sunny clearing at the base of redwood-covered hills, you'll be less than a mile from the oceanfront Bluff Trail, the Sea Ranch Golf Links, and the outdoor pool, saunas, and tennis courts at the Del Mar Recreation Center.
Step inside to find a living space that's entirely on one level, with the common areas on one side of the house and the bedroom and bathroom on the other. Just in front of you as you enter are glass doors that lead outside to the deck - a private spot to bring your coffee each morning. Back inside, you'll find a light-filled great room that brings together the living room, the dining room, and the kitchen beneath lofty ceilings with exposed wood beams. A private washer/dryer is also on hand for your convenience.

The Neighborhood:
The Sea Ranch is a one-of-a-kind coastal community on the Sonoma Coast, where miles of trails wind through meadows, forests, and along ocean bluffs. Nearby highlights include community heated pool (North) (7-minute walk), Shell Beach tidepools (7-minute drive), The Sea Ranch Lodge restaurant, lounge and café (7-minute drive). Between the coastal trails, tidepools, heated pools, and The Sea Ranch Lodge's restaurant, you could fill a week without leaving the community. For provisions, Gualala (10 minutes south) has grocery stores, restaurants, and a gas station. Jenner and Bodega Bay are scenic drives south.
Getting Around:
Plan for a 2.5-hour drive from San Francisco (Highway 101 to Highway 1). If flying, Santa Rosa's Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) is the closest option at about 90 minutes east. You'll want a car here -- the winding coastal roads are half the adventure.
Other Things to Note:
Enjoy stainless steel appliances in the open kitchen, a Netflix-equipped flatscreen TV in the living room, and two desk workspaces - one in the living room and one in the bedroom - in case you need to use the free WiFi to catch up on emails.
Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.
Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.
Spring (April-June) brings a wildflower show across the coastal meadows -- lupine, poppies, and iris paint the landscape. Summer (June-September) brings the warmest days and longest light. Morning fog is common along the coast -- it usually burns off by midday.
