About this property

Cool Log Cabin Retreat, Extreme Views, 4 Decks

The Perch at Pisgah — Main Floor | Burnsville, NC

At 3,200 feet in the western North Carolina mountains, The Perch at Pisgah — Main Floor is a two-bedroom retreat that gives small groups, couples, and families access to one of the most spectacular settings in the Blue Ridge. The entire Black Mountain range — anchored by Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Rockies — stretches across the horizon from nearly every room. Four decks, a propane fire pit, a stone fireplace, and altitude-cooled air complete the picture. The Blue Ridge Parkway is minutes away.

Sleeping

The listing sleeps up to 5 across two distinct spaces. The open master suite is the centerpiece — a cathedral pine beam ceiling arches overhead, a corner soaking tub sits steps from the bed, a dedicated workspace and doors that open directly onto a private deck with mountain views. Above the main living area, the fairy-light loft is its own world: a double bed with twin trundle tucked under glowing pine beams, with navy blue shiplap walls, a game table, and a bean bag for lounging.

Living & Dining

The great room is expansive and warm — soaring cathedral pine beam ceilings, a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, a large sectional, and picture windows that frame the Black Mountain range from every angle. A telescope is on hand for daytime ridge-watching and stargazing after dark. The dining room seats eight at a farmhouse trestle table with sliding glass doors opening to the deck. The full kitchen bar adds four leather counter stools for casual meals and morning coffee. The knotty pine kitchen is fully equipped with granite countertops, stainless appliances, and a dedicated coffee station with a Cuisinart dual brewer, burr grinder, and electric kettle.

Outdoor Spaces

All four decks are available to you. The main deck is built for gathering — a propane fire pit with lounge seating, a six-seat dining table, and a Weber grill, all with unobstructed Black Mountain views. A covered deck with a green metal pergola and string lights gives you a sheltered outdoor living room for any weather. Additional decks offer a rope hammock, a hanging egg chair, and quieter corners for reading or simply watching the ridge change color through the day.

The Details

The cabin is dog-welcoming — a basket with bowl, blanket, and more is provided, along with a dedicated dog wash station on-site. An EV charger is available. In-unit full-size washer and dryer. The loft game library has board games for all ages. Smart TVs in the master bedroom and main living area.

Location

Situated just outside Burnsville, NC, The Perch at Pisgah — Main Floor offers easy access to hiking, the South Toe River, the Blue Ridge Parkway (temporarily closed), Mt. Mitchell State Park, Pisgah National Forest, and the restaurants and shops of downtown Burnsville, Spruce Pine and Marion. At 3,200 feet, temperatures run 10–15°F cooler than the valley — making this a natural summer refuge and a stunning perch for fall foliage season.

Guests have access to the main floor, loft area, garage and all deck spaces. Guests do not have access to the lowest floor of the house.

We live off site, but are always happy to help. All guests receive our guidebook to the area, which also contains a house manual with information to assist you during your stay.

Located near Mount Mitchell and Mount Mitchell Golf Course (currently closed), the neighborhood is a beautiful community nestled into the mountains with a serene river view. The roads are maintained by the HOA and are plowed in winter. We do recommend AWD or 4WD in winter.

___

Mountain towns keep their magic tucked away—hidden waterfalls, artist studios, backroad orchards, gem hunting, fishing holes, and starlit overlooks. Explore Penland School of Craft, hike Mt Mitchell, Roan Mountain or Linville Falls, float the Toe River, or ski at Hatley Pointe, Beech, or Sugar Mountain. Enjoy cozy cafés, local breweries, and hillside orchards. Whether you chase sunsets or stargaze at night, this region is pure Blue Ridge beauty.

This location requires a vehicle to get around

Hurricane Helene: Our area was affected by Hurricane Helene, but the landscape has largely recovered and we’re basically back to normal. Neighborhood roads and nearly all routes to Burnsville, Spruce Pine and Marion have been repaired and are open, and restaurants, attractions, and businesses are operating as usual with only a few exceptions.

Portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway remain closed but are scheduled to re-open later this summer and the Mount Mitchell Golf Course is closed for golf play; however, the grounds are still open to guests for walking, dog outings, and fishing. Grassy Creek Golf Course is open, and Roan Mountain at Carver’s Gap at the Appalachian trail, along with many other nearby hiking trails, are fully accessible. Please see our digital guidebook for recommendations and current options.
