About Lisa Javar

Living and working in the Beautiful Napa Valley and Sierra Nevada Mountains of California and needing a break from stressful jobs. We found the La'a Loa /Kahalu'u/Keauhou area to be the perfect place to relax, heal and enjoy friends and family. We purchased Hale Akai as a vacation rental partnership and fell in love with the island, our neighbors and Hawai'i life. We have been privileged to make lifetime friends with many of our guests, some of whom have returned twice a year since 2004!

Lisa Javar purchased this house in 2004

Why Lisa Javar chose Kailua-Kona

The location! We have all of the benefits of living near the ocean on the beautiful Kona coast with out all of the noise and congestion of being right on the beach. After renting a home on the beach for two years, we found that being down on Ali'i drive, next to the ocean, was noisy, scary during high surf and expensive. Less than a mile from one of the best snorkeling beaches in Hawai'i, 0.2 miles from a white sand beach with amazing sunset and boogie boarding, close to shopping, public transit and centrally located on the western coast, it's the perfect location! We wanted this specific neighborhood for it's safe, peaceful and convenient location. There were few properties for sale in the area so our Realtor sent letters to every property owner in the neighborhood and we spent several vacations driving up and down the streets waiting for a home to become available!

La'a Loa, the name of this area, means very sacred and Keauhou is 'a place to return to for healing' The area has a peacefulness that stays with you. King Kamehaha III was born two miles away and this was a favorite vacation area for King David Kalakawa, his summer cottage is one mile away. Sharing Hale Akai as a vacation rental gives us a chance to give back some of the pleasure and peace this home has given our family and friends over the past 10 years. Before booking please know that our home is located in a peaceful residential neighborhood.

What makes this house unique

Hawai'i Island, known by tourists as the Big Island, is the most diverse having 11 of the worlds 13 climate zones. You can literally play in the snow and be back on the beach in just over an hour, walk in rain forests, over lava fields and actually watch lava flow.

The Kona Coast is known for it's beaches, coffee farms, cattle ranches, beautiful sunsets and peaceful, laid back atmosphere. Hale Akai is in a quiet residential neighborhood with both vacation rentals and residences.

As I sit on the lanai writing this, the palms are gently swaying and I can hear the surf crashing, doves and cardinals singing and far off in the distance the gentle sound of bagpipes from a Scottish neighbor. The sand is not the only magical part of this island!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Although we don't know you personally, we'd felt the warmth of your hearts and the aloha sent here by your kindness and generosity when we shared in your rental home on the Big Island.

Kona Magic Sands Hawaii Hale Akai Vacation Rental
average rating of 4.785714 based on 15 reviews

Perfect home for our 3 generation family of 8 (6 grownups and 2 kiddies).

  • 5 of 5

This house is conveniently located just south of Kona near Keauhou. Walk a few blocks to a nice beach - Magic Sands. A few more blocks north is Kahalu'u Beach which is an excellent place to teach newbies how to snorkel (shallow and protected from waves with sand and rock bottom, lots of fish and an occasional turtle). The house has every convenience - the kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, lots of silverware, plates, etc and leftover spices and such for cooking. The outside patio has a nice eating area and grill. Plenty of beach equipment in the garage (mats, beach towels, toys, floats, snorkels). This house just worked!! It is not so fancy that I worried about our active little kids, but clean, comfortable and relaxing. The back yard has a soft spongy lawn that the kids loved. Conveniently located (short drive to super market and shopping mall) and just off the main street (Ali'i) to Kona and points north, and south around the island to the volcanoes - don't miss that!!

The house was very nice and comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

The house was lovely and comfortable. Only complaint was the house did not have central air and there was only one air conditioner in the downstairs bedroom and one in the upstairs bedroom. The other 2 bedrooms upstairs did not have cooling, except for ceiling fans, and it was very warm and hard to sleep for those staying in those rooms. Air conditioners were on timers and only stayed on for 1 hour so it was hard to keep the house comfortable as we had to lock up the house during the day when we were gone and it was very warm when we returned. Shower head in downstairs bathroom sprayed water in every direction, so we could not use that shower. The other shower worked great though. It was further to the ocean than I thought and there was no adequate place to go and enjoy the beach. The house was in a nice neighborhood and the house was spacious for the 6 of us. The cost was very reasonable and I would stay there again. It would have been nice to have laundry soap available as we had to buy soap and did not use much and left the rest for the next group. There were plenty of towels, but only one boggie board in ill repair so we rented some for the week. There was some snorkeling equipment and all 6 of us were able to put it all together and snorkel.

We enjoyed staying here. It was perfect for our family. Enough space to spread out and hang out. The home was well kept and well stocked. We used sand toys for the kids and brought some chairs for the day at the beach. Quiet neighborhood and it a great location. Thank you for a wonderful stay!!!

Plage tout près, maison pratique et bien organisée

  • 5 of 5

Quiet neighborhood with easy walk to the beach

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean and well stocked with items for food prep and fun activities. We found the experience to be quite fun and would use this rental again. The owner was very responsive and was a pleasure to work with. The only downside was one bed was uncomfortable and this was remedied with cushions from the garage. Eight adults and one child were able to relax and enjoy hawaii for eight days like we were at home.
