About Bill Wells
Bill and Sally Wells are the owners of the Sugar Creek Chalet and live nearby on the 25 acre property. Sally grew up next door and Bill is a native of Upper St. Clair, PA. The Wells purchased Sally's homeplace in 2007 and moved into their home on the property in 2012. They remodeled the original house (Ramsey Mountain Lodge) into a vacation rental that opened in May 2013. The adjoining neighbor’s house came on the market in December 2013 and the Wells purchased the house for a vacation rental to be opened in May 2014.
Bill Wells purchased this Chalet in 2013
Why Bill Wells chose Fayetteville
Sally grew up on the property in the house that her father built in the early 1950's. We both enjoy outdoor recreation and love Fayetteville and the New River Gorge. I had a job opportunity in nearby Beckley, WV that allowed us to move the Fayetteville in 2012 and open our first vacation rental in 2013. We purchased our neighbors house in late 2013 when they were transferred to South Carolina. The new house has been remodeled and and opened in May of 2014.
What makes this Chalet unique
The house is located on 25 acres of gently rolling land near the edge of the New River Gorge. You will be staying in a secluded, woodland setting in a luxury mountain chalet that is also within walking distance (1 mile) of downtown Fayetteville where you will find many excellent restaurants and shops. No other vacation rental property in Fayetteville offers the same combination of affordable price, secluded mountain setting, convenient location to town and luxury accommodations.

Beautiful secluded location and kept meticulously clean.
Thank you Bill and Sally. Your place was everything we imagined and more. It easily fit our large group with room to spare. The home was spotless and the yard was great for a few games of whiffle ball. The poppy seed bread was delicious and didn't last long! We are looking to make this an annual rafting trip and your home is in the perfect location! Thanks again.
Great place to stay....
This is a great place to stay for easy access to anything you would look to do in the area! We had a group of 12 men for a yearly fishing trip and this is the second time we have stayed here and the place is perfect! Huge kitchen, plenty of outdoor space including fire pit, covered porch, and lots of deck seating along with plenty of beds and showers. The place is super clean and Bill and Sally are the best....highly recommend and look forward to staying there again next year!
My family of 12 gathered for a reunion at Secluded Luxury Mountain Chalet in early August, 2018. The house was perfect for our needs in that we needed room for ages 15 to 80!! Sally brought us poppy seed bread the first morning when she came to welcome us. Bill was always prompt in responding to my emails and phone calls. I highly recommend this house.
Great Family Vacation
Beautiful home and great property! Adventures on the Gorge was very fun too. Thank you Bill and Sally, we had a wonderful vacation.
New River Gorge Gem
We had a fantastic stay at Sugar Creek Chalet. Bill & Sally have clearly put thought and effort into making the place an inviting retreat for visitors. The chalet was spacious and comfortable, with plenty of seating, sleeping accommodations, and bathrooms for our group of six adults (and one dog). With several cooks in the group, we appreciated the large and well-appointed kitchen. The large yards, both front and back, were perfect for playing with our dog. The screened porch was perfect for dinner on the cooler evenings and the ceiling fan made it downright comfortable.
The chalet is situated near the end of a quiet road, so traffic was minimal and we were really able to enjoy sitting on the deck or playing in the yard. The location is also extremely convenient to both the New River Gorge as well as nearby National Parks. It seemed like we were never more than 25 minutes from that day's adventure. We would definitely book the Sugar Creek Chalet again when we return to the New River Gorge area.
Great house and hosts!
Had a wonderful time hiking and rafting.
The house is located on 25 acres so it is secluded but also close to downtown Fayetteville (1 mile) and the New River Gorge Bridge (2 miles). Fayetteville is the gateway to the New River Gorge and National Wild and Scenic River. Local activities include whitewater rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, ATV trails, zip lines, horseback riding, golf, world class trout and smallmouth bass fishing, hiking, birding, hunting, skiing and much more. The New River Gorge bridge is nearly 800 ft high and is the site of Bridge Day on the 3rd Saturday in October where pedestrians can walk on the bridge and base jumpers jump from the bridge to the river below. Walking tours on the catwalk below the bridge are available year round. The house is within walking distance of many of the local attractions including a number of excellent restaurants, the New River Gorge Bridge and some of the National Park trailheads. The Bechtel Summit National Boy Scout Adventure Base and home of the National Jamboree is located 10 miles away. Summersville Lake is 30 miles to the north and Winterplace Ski Resort is 39 miles to the south.
