About Monika and Karl

We LOVE New Orleans and all things Mardi Gras! We bought a home (with this apartment attached) on the Mardi Gras Day parade route for this expressed purpose. The parades literally happen at the end of the driveway!

But that's not all there is to do in New Orleans. NOLA is full of culture, architecture and food, glorious FOOD! We know all the best places. :)

Monika and Karl purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Monika and Karl chose Uptown-Carrollton

We grew up in this neighborhood. We love this house and our neighbors.

What makes this apartment unique

This property is close to everything you want to do. It's close enough to the Quarter for easy access, but without the constant barrage of partying. We are close to Audubon Park, Tulane and Loyola, Freret St, St Charles streetcar... If you are looking for a real, walkable, neighborhood experience, this is the place for you.

Updated basement apartment

Good location for local restaurants and activities. A bit of a ways to the French Quarter, but if you're looking for a location outside the typical touristy areas it's a good spot, especially if you have your own car or don't mind waiting for the trolley. Monika is very responsive and helpful.

We could not have been happier with the place, but especially with the welcoming, professional and warm treatment from Monika. I would stay here again for sure.

Great Accommodations in wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We have recently returned from a week-long stay in this great apartment. I was so worn out with trying to keep up with my husband during French Quarter Fest that I am just now getting around to writing this review! The apartment was so nice to come back to after a long day of 'festing'. The location was ideal for us. It is located on Napoleon Avenue, just a few blocks walk to the St Charles streetcar. Even though the streetcar lines were very busy with the festival and so many people traveling down to the Quarter, it was still my preferred way to get around. I love riding along the tracks and seeing the beautiful homes lining the streets. The construction that was being done in front of the rental apartment was finished by the time we arrived, so we didn't have any problem with construction noise that someone had mentioned in an earlier review. Though there was some of the typical city noise, it was actually very quiet - just the occasional ambulance sound from the hospital a few blocks away. Free street parking is around the corner. The neighborhood felt safe. It is just a short walk from some good local restaurants, a coffee shop and an ice cream/snoball shop on Freret St.

The apartment was just as shown in the pictures. The kitchen is a nice size for an apartment, but doesn't have a lot of counter space. (Perhaps a shelf under the window would help?) But is is well-equipped with dishes and flatware for 4, and there is a full size washer and dryer. We didn't cook much, there are just too many food temptations in NOLA, but there is a good grocery store a couple of miles away (a drive, not a walk).

The living room is comfortable, and there is a separate dining area. The bedrooms are large and the beds were very comfortable for us. The decorating is nice and contemporary, and not overly done, so there is a feeling of a lot of space. The bathroom is large enough to move around comfortably in, and there is a tall standing rack that worked well for storing my cosmetic bags, blow dryer, etc. There is good water pressure for the shower.

Above all, this apartment was spotlessly clean. I complimented the owner on her choice of cleaning people. This is one of the things I really look for in overnight accommodations, whether hotel rooms or rental properties. The owner, Monika, was very helpful in answering questions, and was friendly, warm and professional. I look forward to renting this apartment again the next time we are in NOLA!

a wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was clean, modern and very comfortable. Monika and Karl were very gracious and made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed our stay and hope to use their services again. Also in a good location, especially if you don't want the busy downtown/French quarter all the time but close enough to get there in no time! Close to other great attractions as well!

Truly a Home Away from Home!

  • 5 of 5

My family (Husband and I, toddler and mother in law) came to visit for jazz fest. Upon arrival we were very impressed with the communication and hospitality offered to us by Monika and her family. My son especially was appreciative for the extra efforts to help him feel more at home and entertained. Although jazz fest was a complete wash (literally due to storms) we were so happy to have a dry, cozy and quiet place out of the hoopla. There is a park on the next block over, Monika was sweet enough to show my son. He enjoyed playing there and the street car ride in to the Aquarium. We cooked several meals in - and the kitchen was perfect. The unit also had a washer/ dryer which was greatly appreciated after a muddy and rainy weekend. We have stayed at other VRBO properties and never felt more welcomed and accommodated than with Monika and her family. Her recommendations for foods and treats (especially ice cream and snowballs) were spot on! Thank you for a wonderful time!
