An idyllic slice of paradise

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 5 nights

About the property

Lovely and airy secluded beach house, beach across the sand road.

That's the description of Buttonwood Hammock written in the house guest book recently. The house sits above the trees, a peaceful, private oasis on the tranquil north end of Elbow Cay, just one mile north of the quaint settlement of Hope Town. The spectacular ocean beach is just across the sand road, and the Sea of Abaco's pristine gentle beach is nearby as well. From the widow's walk atop the house, a 360 degree water panorama awaits; star gazing at night is breathtaking.

Perched on stilts, this beautiful 3BR/2Bath home has commanding views of the island and the sea surrounding it. High ceilings lend spaciousness to the living room, dining room and fully-equipped kitchen. The wrap-around deck is perfect for al fresco dining, and birdwatchers will be enthralled, especially with the hummingbirds visiting the feeder.

The master bedroom has a queen bed an attached bath, featuring a tub with shower. Twin beds grace the 2nd downstairs bedroom, next to the 2nd bathroom. The loft, comfortable for children or a 3rd couple, has a queen bed.

If you love deserted beaches, the sound of the ocean lulling you to sleep, spectacular snorkeling and diving, boating to other islands in the clear aquamarine Sea of Abaco, abd generally un-plugging from the world, this is for you!

The owners, full-time residents of Hope Town, are always available to be of assistance.

About Chris and Jill Prewitt

We sailed into Hope Town harbour in 1995, and instantly fell in love with it! We built the house in '96 and moved to Hope Town to run a sailboat charter company. We retired from that in 2007, and are permanent residents of Abaco -- this is our home, and we love living here!

Chris and Jill Prewitt purchased this house in 1996

Why Chris and Jill Prewitt chose Hope Town

Having fallen in love with Hope Town, we bought the lot on the beautiful, quiet north end of Elbow Cay.

What makes this house unique

We designed the house as an open, airy beach house, with spectacular views of the surroundings. We love to have all the windows and the French doors open to the outside....though there is always the chance that a bird will join us! -- opening the hatch to the widow's walk is the quickest way to provide him with an exit. The deck is the perfect spot for eating, reading and just enjoying nature. We have welcomed renters to the house since we built it, and they all comment that they love the peace, quiet and beauty of the spot, especially after a busy day out on the water.

Wonderful hosts, Jill and Chris, great house, wonderful location, beautiful, deserted beaches - our dream vacation. We did call it "our slice of paradise" when we were there. Very laid-back and relaxing vacation - we definitely unplugged. We liked being on the North End of the island - very quiet, secluded.

All of the other reviews about how nice and helpful Jill and Chris are were spot-on. Loved the house - with 2 bedrooms and a loft there was plenty of room. Nice and roomy to play cards in the evening or sit out on the deck.

We probably should have rented a golf cart - the ~10 mile round-trip to Tahiti Beach on the bikes was very hot (it was July), and the bikes aren't new-- but we loved riding the bikes into town from the house. It also was great to walk 2 minutes to the beach, and about 5 to the Sea of Abaco. Can't say enough good things - we hope to be back soon! Thanks so much, Jill and Chris!

Peaceful piece of Elbow Cay

  • 5 of 5

Buttonwood Hammock is a relaxing special home on the north end. Jill and Chris as owners are so informative and helpful and their hospitality made our first stay on Elbow Cay unforgettable. You are lulled by sound of the ocean across the road and the birds that frequent the porch. The dock is easily accessible by bike , and it is a easy beautiful mile ride to town. We highly recommend this rental.

Beautiful private spot. Everything we expected

We really enjoyed our stay. Just far enough away from civilization for us but close enough to the surf to be put to sleep by it.

Everything you could want on the North End!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 adults LOVED our stay. Jill and Chris were absolutely stellar hosts. They were very knowledgeable and helpful in every way. They made our Abaco adventure easy and relaxing. Buttonwood Hammock is situated at the bottom of the North End loop. A short walk to either beach or sea. Also very close to the North End public dock, super convenient for us boat renters. The house was well cared for, had all the extras and great linens. The wrap around porch and widow walk were big bonuses. As we're the 4 beach cruiser bikes included. They were a little long in the tooth but operable. Overall I can't imagine a better value than BH. We would not hesitate to rent it again. I highly recommend this home.
