Grand Haven cottage description

Pair-A-Dice is a quaint cottage in Grand Haven, Michigan. Built in 1906, it is located in historic Highland Park, an historic landmark. This turn of the century cottage community has attracted visitors for over 125 years. About 100 cottages are tucked in the sand dunes with a system of boardwalks and walkways built throughout the natural preserve. Pair-A-Dice, one of the few cottages over looking Lake Michigan and her beach.

The beautiful sun sets while you drink, dine and scream for ice cream on your large private deck.

Enjoy watching the Grand Haven Pier's catwalk lite up at night looking like a string of pearls! Take a midnight stroll through the Highland Park or dip in the lake below. Fall asleep with the sound of the waves . Awaken to the romantic sound of the Pier's foghorn on the mornings the boaters and fishermen need visual assistance.

A screened in front porch with an attached deck are ideal for reading, sunset watching, and experiencing the fall storms as they rumble in over Lake Michigan. No need to be scared as this cottage has survived over 100 years worth of wind, rain, hail, snow and ice.

There is a small back porch for storage, for your bikes, coolers, beach bags, fishing poles and kites.

There are 5 bedrooms, one full bath downstairs and one full bathroom upstairs. The upstairs is a deluxe new bathroom in 2016 with a separate shower/bath and toilet with vanity. Three bedrooms have full beds, one bedroom has a set of twin beds and a fifth bedroom has kids beds. Sleeps 6 adults and 4 kids comfortably. Bring your beach towels. Two bedrooms have lake views while you are resting in bed.

Pair-a-Dice retains much of its original charm as many items in the cottage are original.

In the Spring and Fall there is a wall heater to keep your downstairs cozy. The bathroom can be chilly depending on the weather so we provide a little space heater. This is a cottage that gets shuttered up for the winter at the end of October.

Click on the link 'More cottage Photos' for a virtual tour and click on the calendar to see availability. Also check out the link which is a live web cam; the view you see, is just 9 cottages North of where Pair-a-Dice is located.

September is the locals favorite time to be swimming in the Lake. Often the water is warmer than the air and the waves are perfect for body surfing, or watching the surfers. The beach crowds are gone however the city is still rocking.

About Bob Minnema

Family traditions are strong here as the cottages are passed down to future generations, with little turnover to new owners. My dream came true when I had the opportunity to buy Pairadice on the ridge overlooking Lake Michigan and the beach, in 2013. I love sharing Grand Haven with friends and now with your family. This is truly the most beautiful place in the world, (in the summer and fall). Come make your own family traditions and memories here.

Bob Minnema purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Bob Minnema chose West Central

If you seek to experience a peaceful, relaxing, mother nature vacation, this is your spot. Overlooking the beach during the day and watching sunsets that rivals the sunsets of the Pacific Islands. Your choice to walk, saunter, bike, roller blade, skate board, run with little need or desire to drive your car. This is a vacation for living in the now, a time to be visiting life as it should be lived.

What makes this cottage unique

Experience what it is like to live like a local in this exciting friendly, safe summer tourist town. You will quickly feel at home here at Highland Park overlooking Lake Michigan Water. One of the few highland park cottages on the bluff with a boardwalk and stairs leading down to the private secluded sandy beach, fresh lake, no salt or sharks here, however there are waves for body surfing and paddle boarding.

Pairadice was built in 1904 and continues to have the cottage feel with a modern updates. On demand water heater, washer and dryer, and new bedroom and bathroom with separate vanity addition. My focus is to keep the cottage charm and simple slow pace life style.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This is an extraordinary location with a full view of Lake Michigan and sunsets that are breathtaking. Located in the heart of historic Highland Park, Pair-a-Dice offers the experience of going back to an earlier time when life was less hectic and more relaxing. The setting is simply extraordinary and the cottage offers all the amenities needed to have a wonderful vacation. The only complication is that, after spending a week or two there, you won't want to leave! Truly a gem and a wonderful opportunity to experience the bounty of nature in the most relaxing setting available today.

Retreat Pair-a-Dice

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I spent a spectacular Girls' Weekend at Pair-a-Dice! We all live in the Grand Haven area, but we felt like we were miles away. This cottage has everything you need to enjoy a retreat/vacation. This property is perfect for hiking, a walk to charming downtown Grand Haven for shopping and a bite to eat, sitting on the beach, chilling on the spacious deck, playing cards around the darling dining-room table , AND viewing breathtaking sunsets that rival any Caribbean Island I've visited. You will LOVE this place!! Book soon because you won't want to miss out on your own relaxing and refreshing retreat!

Wonderful blend of the old and new..

  • 5 of 5

I and several friends ( 7 total) just spent a girls' weekend at this charming cottage over Lake Michigan with a view unparalleled anywhere. It was everything, in my mind, that a cottage should be...a comfortable place to relax and unwind. It was extremely clean and inviting, and the owner has done a wonderful job of blending the old with the new...plenty of beds (and bedding) for all, well appointed kitchen, and walkable to beach, shopping and restaurants. I felt removed from the bustle, yet knew I was a walk away from any of those things, should I want to do that. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here.

Sunset Spectacular!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this quaint cottage for 2 years in a row. It has a wonderful view and the owner has added a

new addition to accommodate more sleeping and another full bath. It is very clean and comfortable and sleeps 10.

It is in a wonderful location, just on the edge of all the activity during the festivities. You are just steps down to the

beach where you can have more privacy but only a very short walk to the city beach. On the walk down, we met many neighbors/owners and they were amazing! Everyone is so friendly and made us feel very welcome. A lot of great restaurants like the well known Pronto Pup is just down the boardwalk and make sure to hit the Dairy Treat across the street! Totally recommend this cottage for families of any age.

Family stay

  • 5 of 5

Spending a week in Grand Haven is all ways enjoyable during the summer. This cottage made the stay memorable. All though quaint, it can sleep many very comfortably. The porch and deck, not only add space, but increase the ability to see a fantastic view. It is the perfect place for us, as we like the experience of being over the beach with a walk to town, or a quick bike ride! The neighboring cottages and community was also enjoyable. Everyone goes at their own pace and makes all comfortable.

Old fashion cottage

  • 5 of 5

Have spent two summers at this cottage and looking forward to a third next year. Each time I have enjoyed the many new amenities. The cottage very clean, comfortable with lovely sunsets. The kitchen has everything you would want. Grand Haven is a charming, walkable town with lots to do. The ONLY drawback are the 32 stairs to climb from the parking lot to get to the cottage, but we all need the exercise.

Pairadice july 2015

  • 4 of 5

The highland park area is ideal for enjoying grand haven, and all the beach has to offer.

The pairadice cottage is in a great central spot, for general access and the lake view, but is also cozy and private.

Nice new bbq grill, and outdoor shower for sandy feet. Once you stay, you'll be hooked!
