About Debbie Harsh
We are residents of Florida. We have been blessed with three daughters and their spouses and 13 grandchildren. We love the mountains and all that it provides.
Debbie Harsh purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2002
Why Debbie Harsh chose Ivy Hill
As a couple we had visited Maggie Valley for years with several very close friends. When the decision was made to purchase a home that would allow for our family and friends to enjoy, we began the search. After looking at approximately 25 different properies, when we walked in this home, we immediately knew this was the one. When trying to decide on a name, we immediately decided on Masters View. When we saw all of the beautiful color from the fall leaves, we quicly realized oh my, this is the Master's view as he is looking down. It has been our pleasue to open our open to share with others in hopes that they to would enjoy the spectacular view, the cool breeze, the sound of the rain, and the music provided by the beautiful birds.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
The benefits of this home are the quiet and beautiful setting. The home is fully stocked with everything you would need in the kitchen except the food. Linens are also all provided, all you need to bring is your clothing, toiletries and food. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The drive up is very steep, but not a problem at all. We loved the hot tub and the perfect view down into the valley. The home was very comfortable, and we really enjoyed our time there.
Thank you very much for your kind remarks regarding your stay st our home! So pleased that you enjoyed your stay.
Beautiful view of Maggie Valley
Beautiful view of the valley. The house was clean and well furnished, including all the dishes and linens we needed as well as special towels for the hot tub.
The drive up to the house is fairly steep and should definitely be done in the daytime the first time.
We were packed to capacity the morning we left, and were going to have to carry our trash bags on our laps all the way to Waynesville. Fortunately, the kind neighbor happened to be going to the collection center and offered to take our trash.
I would plan to make a run to the collection center the day before you check out with the majority of your trash.
Overall, it was a lovely central location for driving to Cherokee, sight-seeing, and spending time with family, having dinner at the picnic table on the porch, playing games, and enjoying the view.
The Ingles in Waynesville is amazing for picking up your pre-cooked dinners and taking them back to the cabin.
Thank you for your review of your stay stay at Masters View. We trust you made memories that will last you a life time.
Loved it! The Master created a wonderful view here.
What a wonderful home this is! And the view is truly marvelous. We enjoyed how the view kept changing - a clear view of the mountains and valley, a view from above the clouds, the classic "smoky" view of the mountains, and a quiet nighttime view with lights in the valley and the outline of the mountains across the sky. Master's View is more than a catchy name.
The beds were comfortable (note: if you're still in love after all these years, you may notice that there's a squeaky headboard upstairs, which is easily remedied with pillows between the headboard and the wall). The WiFi worked great, and the living room has a TV with built-in Roku. (Plan to log in with your own Netflix and Hulu accounts if you want to use those.) The kitchen had all the dishes, pots, pans, and containers we needed during the week.
The location is remote enough to have peace and quiet (although there is one other house next to this one), close enough to Waynesville to grab groceries and other necessities fairly easily, also close to several beautiful hikes and waterfalls, and not too far from Great Smoky Mountains National Park, although I wouldn't recommend driving to the Tennessee side of GSMNP every day.
The Maggie Valley Visitor Center off the main road through town offered some helpful information on local activities and events.
Some of our favorite activities (for teens and adults) were white water rafting in Hartford, TN; hiking Soco Falls just a few miles from the house; seeing elk at Cataloochee in GSMNP; eating barbecue at Hartford Smokehouse in Waynesville; wandering through Mast General Store in Waynesville; and exploring the falls at Graveyard Fields on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We also loved the drive through GSMNP on Newfound Gap Road. And we enjoyed going to a Folkmoot Festival music/dance performance to get our fill of local cultural arts. It was nice to relax in the hot tub after each busy day.
Everything that others have said about the drive up to the house is true. There are tight switchback turns on the steep and narrow mountain road. It takes about 7 minutes to go up or down the 1.3 (?) mile road. Roughly 2/3 of the road is paved with asphalt, with gravel on the remaining sections. Our Honda Odyssey did just fine. I used 2nd gear going up, and mostly 1st gear going down.
To the owners - Thanks for making your cozy home available to others.
To prospective renters - If you want comfort, serenity, and beauty, you'll love it here.
thank you so much for this amazing review. you experience has truely always been our heart for our guest. reading your review touch my heart and brought tears of joy to my heart.
THANK YOU! We will work on that squeaky head board :)
A Wonderful Home in a Wonderful Location
Master's View is a great home, very well appointed and maintained. It is very clean, cozy and welcoming. The house has everything you'll need for your stay (kitchen 'tools', linens, etc). The deck, with hot tub, 2 tables, several chairs and a spectacular view is where you'll spend a great deal of your time. The owners provide you all the info you'll need for your arrival and stay and are accessible/responsive. You'll be very happy with your stay in this home!!
The home was very beautiful and spacious. Has that mountain charm that seems to welcomes you in.
We live abut 30 minutes from Myrtle Beach, SC but we travel to the NC mountains about 5 times yearly. Found Mountain View perfect in every way, spacious, beautiful home with excellent view, hot tub for relaxing after a day of excursions and just kick back and breath in the mountain air and feel at peace with the surrounding nature. We would get up just before daybreak, morning coffee in hand and sit on the porch and enjoy the sunrise as it shed brightness to the shadows of Gods creation. The only disappointment was having to leave the beauty of it all. Master view exceeded all my expectations and I highly recommend Master View as there vacation retreat. Thanks for the lasting memories.
We had a very enjoyable weekend at Master View. The house is very clean, comfortable and everything we needed was there. The views from the porch overlooking Maggie Valley were absolutely breathtaking! The steep drive up the mountain to reach the house is a little challenging and best done the first time during daylight but the directions given by the hosts were very clear, and we arrived at our destination safely. Our Highlander SUV handled the road with no issues. Our hosts were courteous and prompt in answering emails and questions. Thank you for a wonderful weekend with our family!
