About Gale and Michele Notestone
Hana By The Bay is Gale and Michele Notestone. We both live and work in Hana. Michele is a paramedic and Gale is Hana's Resident Fire Captain. They have both lived in Hana over 10 years and will live no other place. We are very thankful to live here and wish to share the beauty with others.
Gale and Michele Notestone purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Gale and Michele Notestone chose Hāna
Hana is has the true feeling of a small town community. It is a wonderful feeling to go to the stores, the post office, the bank, the gas station, etc. and you know everybody by name, and they know you. As secluded as Hana is, the community relies on one another for assistance. One of the true meanings of Aloha is 'to give.' When you do, time and time again, the return is often abundant. It warms your heart.
What makes this Cottage unique
Air conditioning in the bedroom. There are countless benefits. Additional to what was described above, Hana looks to the East. There is nothing upwind of you but the beautiful blue Pacific. The air is very clean, clear and fresh. Hawaii's trade winds split at the point of Hana, Kauiki Head. From the front of your cottage, you will see the lighthouse there, blinking at you throughout the night. Another great thing about Hana is you can see the sun and the moon rise from the oceans horizon. This is spectacular. Staying in Hana when there is more than half a moon is a wondrous time to visit. Full moon is best. If you don't catch the moon, the stars will 'fill the bill'. Because Hana has very little 'city lights', the stars are easily seen. The North Star and Big Dipper await your visit.

This cottage was the perfect getaway from the hustle and crowds of the resorts. The hosts thought of everything you could ever possibly need. It was incredibly clean. We loved having more time to explore the stops around Hāna especially being pregnant. Only regret is we couldn’t stay longer. Hope to be back soon!
I was sad to leave Hana! We had everything we needed, fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, towels, and beach equipment. We were walking distance to Hana Bay and maybe a 30min drive to Waimoku Falls. I will definitely be coming back to stay here. Michele and Gale are the best hosts in Hana!
Loved the place, the cleanliness and attention to detail, and the genuine care towards me as a guest. The banana bread was to die for. Wish I could have it every day.
Incredible accommodation. House is beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable.
Walking distance to beach, cultural centre, restaurants and store. Very well appointed kitchen and deck with BBQ. Quiet!! Air conditioning in bedroom. Heaven. We will book again.
Quiet, detailed and immaculate!
Perfect Cottage, Amazing Experience
Our stay here in Hana was absolutely amazing!!! I strongly recommend this charming home for all couples. We're world travelers and this was one of the more enjoyable trips we've ever been on... felt like a honeymoon (which it would be great for). The cottage is perfect... super cute, highly clean, great size, very comfortable bed, fantastic location, and the owners put incredibly thoughtful touches throughout (bathrobes, fresh banana bread, luggage racks, movies, etc.) The owners are really friendly, nice people. They met us upon arrival and gave us great recommendations around the area. I broke my toe under a waterfall and Michelle even got me medical tape and taped it herself for me.
It was a great place to watch the sunrise over the beach, and it was only a few minutes drive to the gorgeous beaches, parks, and attractions in Hana. I'm recommending it to all of our friends and would go back in a heartbeat!
Lots of fresh fruit stands and freshly baked banana bread in the area. Also, a variety of great eateries that are not listed in the yellow pages.
