About Helena Beard
Hi i live with my husband Nick in Newbury. We have two grown up children, the oldest has finished university and living and working in London. The youngest is at University in Falmouth. We love to travel and experience different countries and cultures and hardly ever choses to stay in hotels unless traveling with business but prefer self catering as we feel we get a better feeling for the places we visit. When I am not working, apart from travelling I love property refurbishing, interior design, furniture upholstery and gardening and yoga.
Why Helena Beard chose Falmouth
Our Holiday Home is in Falmouth Town on the south coast of Cornwall, with amazing views. Our son is at Falmouth University and because of this we got to know Falmouth and love it. When we want a short break away from our busy lives we love to spend time there. Falmouth is a wonderful place to visit for couples, single people and families alike. Young and old there is something for everyone.
What makes this House unique
As soon as we walked through the door we fell in love with the view which can be enjoyed from all principal rooms on every level. Everything in this historic vibrant town is a few moments walk away. There is an excellent range of cosmopolitan restaurants, quayside bars, pubs. galleries and shops, Other leisure amenities include the National Maritime museum, several parks, gardens and safe bathing beaches. There are fantastic walks including the South West Coast Path, which runs right through Falmouth, around Pendennis Point to the neighbouring beaches of Swanpool, Maenporth and beyond. There are many regular ferry crossings available to take you to gardens like Trebah, Glendurgan and Trelissick and idyllic waterside villages such as Flushing, St Mawes, and Helford. These sheltered waters are ideal for the water sports enthusiasts there are sailing, rowing and diving clubs catering to all abilities. Fishing can be done from the beach, pier, off the rocks or you can book a place on a fishing boat. When you are finished exploring you can simply chill out on the terrace looking out at the ever changing vista below.

Good in parts
It's the view of Falmouth Harbour from the balconies of this house that make it special. Other than that it was mediocre, and it's very misleading to advertise it as being suitable for four adults; there's a standard double bed in one bedroom, and a 4 ft 'occasional' double in the other. The house was clean and the kitchen was generally well-equipped, but avoid it if you're elderly or infirm - the staircases are steep and narrow, and there's nowhere comfortable to sit: the worn out settee and armchair in the sitting room are too low, and the chairs on the balconies are very basic folding chairs.
Parking was a nightmare. The house is in a narrow street with double yellow lines, where parking outside even to unload or load the car is out of the question. It was a matter of driving round and round the surrounding streets of tightly packed terraced houses to find a parking space. However, it's only a 5-minute walk into the town centre (provided you can manage the hills and steps).
That's the nature of the house's position and obviously outside the owner's control, but the comfort of the house could be improved by investing in a decent settee and a proper double bed.
Thank you for your review. Reviews are alway welcome to help make improvements and make sure my listing description is accurate. However very sorry and disappointed that your stay wasn't everything you expected.
My listing already states the bed sizes. Top floor - Standard double, lower ground floor - small double 4ft.
It also states that it is not suitable for children due to steep stairs. I will change the wording to include people with mobility issues.
The sofa and seating in the living room is certainly not dilapidated but I do agree it is on the low side so will change them as soon as possible.
With regards to parking. My listing clearly stated at the time of your booking that Falmouth Council had not yet allocated me a residents parking permit. They now have and I have updated my listing. It is regrettable that it was not in place at the time of your stay.
excellent place to stay in Falmouth
Nice house and wonderful view. Good location. Everything for smooth accommondation.
The most wonderful house we have ever stayed in our holidays.
A wonderful old house, renovated up to modern standard and decorated with much love. Two balconies and one terrace face the harbor. It´s situated in a silent street but only 5 minutes to walk to the city centre with lovely cafés and restaurants. Our children (13,16) were as enthusiastic as us. The owner left us 'Cornish Tea' and 'Shortbread' as a welcome present.
We walked along the coastal footpath to Glendurgan Gardens (4h), visited the castle in Falmouth and spent lovely times on the 'Halyle Sands' beach.
We're looking forward to come back next holidays.
So happy you enjoyed your holiday in Falmouth and your stay at Falmouth View. You and your family have been great guests and I look forward to welcoming you back any time.
Dear Burckhard and Brigit
I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Falmouth View. It has been a pleasure to host you. Welcome back any time.
All the best.
