About the property

2 blocks from the main streetcar line

This is a classic New Orleans shot gun home in the historic section of Mid-City, New Orleans; 10 blocks from central downtown and one house from the Lafitte Greenway which is a walking/biking path that stretches all of the way from City Park to Downtown. There are hip restaurants and bars within walking distance. The streetcar is 2 blocks away, and you can bike to any part of town from here. We're right off of the Endymion route for Mardi Gras! You can walk to Jazz Fest and Voodoo Fest from here (we do, and it's a nice walk on the bayou to the fests). You can also walk to City Park to hang out, exercise, or to go one of the many festivals that happen there or the New Orleans Museum of Art or to Morning Call at any time of the day for a classic beignet and cafe au lait. If you need something from the grocery, we're very close to a Whole Foods and Rouses (local chain).

The home itself is 100+ years old. It has tall, 12' ceilings and hardwood floors throughout and ends with a sun room that overlooks a private courtyard. The sun room is a great room for drinking your coffee in the morning and getting a beautiful start to your day. It has wall-to-wall windows and plush seating, which makes it a very cozy space. The apartment is also well equipped with everything that you'll need to have the most comfortable stay; from coffee to shampoo to extra pillows. There are two bedrooms with Queen size beds in each, and each has a large closet for you to store your things while you stay. There's an office room that has a desk, bookcase full of books for you to peruse, and a comfy, pillow-top futon which makes the office also function as a 3rd bedroom. One of the bedrooms has its own private half-bath! The living room has a flat screen TV that is wi-fi enabled, and plugged into Netflix for your viewing pleasure. Though I doubt you came to New Orleans to watch TV.

There's one off-street parking spot in front of the apartment. This is an upstairs apartment, which provides evermore privacy.

I live next door in the other apartment. If there's anything that you need I'm just a knock away. Otherwise, I understand that this is your vacation, so please enjoy yourself! We look forward to hosting you in New Orleans!

1. There's a reserved parking spot for the apartment right in front of the apartment itself.

2. I don't have a problem with an early check in, so long as someone is not checking out the same day you're checking in. This insures the housekeeper has enough time to clean before your arrived. Please first get in touch with me if you want to check in early.

3. There is absolutely no smoking allowed in the house. The sun room is a part of the house, so there is no smoking allowed in there as well.

4. There are no pets allowed on the property.

Great neighborhood and central location

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay at this property and it was just as enjoyable as the last. We love the neighborhood and the ability to walk to several great restaurants (Mandina's, Canal St Bistro, Katie's, Biscuits & Buns, Ruby Slipper) as well as the Canal streetcar line to City Park, the cemeteries, or the French Quarter/downtown. If you are planning to use the streetcar and/or bus system while you visit, download the RTA app and purchase the day pass - $3 for one day, $9 for three days, and $15 for five days - simply click your ticket in the app and show it to the driver when you board. The app also has route info and trip tools that make getting around really simple.

Loved being 2 blocks from Canal Street streetcar which can get you to Bourbon Street and St. Charles Street Trolley (Garden District). Quiet neighborhood. Quaint. Great local scene. Perfect for when you need a break from Bourbon Street.

About Katrina Andry

I'm a local artist who was born and raised in New Orleans. I show around town, and when I'm not showing I work for a small not-for-profit. In my spare time I love tackling DIY projects, sewing, knitting, riding my bike to City Park and along the Lakefront, and also hanging with friends for a happy hour in the neighborhood. This is New Orleans, so I obviously love to eat and can always help you find something that suits your palette.

When I moved back to New Orleans, I knew I wanted to live in Mid City. It's a great place to live. I love my neighborhood.

Katrina Andry purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Katrina Andry chose Mid-City

Before I bought this home I lived nearby in the same neighborhood for a few years, and I loved my neighborhood. I knew when I started looking for a home, it would be in this exact same neighborhood. It's just so conveniently located. I never have to get on the highway and can be uptown, downtown and the French Quarter under 15 minutes. You can bike everywhere if you wanted to. And being right off of Carrollton and Canal, there are many great amenities in the neighborhood and many more opening on what seems like a daily basis. I also chose this home for it's proximity to City Park. I love to ride my bike and walk. It's such a great way to unwind. Being close to the bayou and the park means that I can take advantage of the trails and being close to the water. Having all of the amenities of a busy city block and then also tons of green space is a win win and I love it.

What makes this apartment unique

I chose this property during my search because of it's charm. I'm all about the charm. It has the transoms, the history, the tall ceilings...the charm. I'm an artist, so beautiful spaces mean a lot to me.

There are numerous eateries in the area as well as a walking trail nearby. When the weather is nice, it's lovely to take a walk on the Bayou and get a sno-ball at Pandora's. There's a breakfast spot, Ruby Slipper, within walking distance and it's not to be missed if you stay here.
