Privately situated waterfront home in a natural setting, located on Core Sound in Stacy, North Carolina.
Perfect for the nature lover or fisherman. Bring your boat! Enjoy gorgeous sunsets from the deck or screened porch, or from the 500 foot pier that spans an acre of saltwater marsh to the deep water bay. Away from it all, yet just a short drive to historic Beaufort, Atlantic Beach, and ferries to Cape Lookout and the Outer Banks.
We rented this place for my husband's birthday and had a great, memorable experience!
Shortly after our arrival, the property manager came to the house and let us know the rules and gave us a run-down of the property. Then he disappeared and gave us complete privacy. This is exactly what we hope for when renting a property - privacy.
The house is secluded in the woods and very private. It was a perfect place to unwind from the daily grind and just hit the pause button on life for a while. With a canoe, kayak, or small boat, you can easily set off across the sound to arrive on Core Banks to have your own adventure.
The dock is wonderful for fishing and crabbing (bring your own gear). The water around the dock is rarely above waist-deep, making it perfect for our dogs. They both loved playing in the water and on the dock as well.
My boyfriend and I along with our dog stayed here for 5 nights this past July. Giving a rating of a 4 is generous; a 3.5 would be a more accurate and fair rating. The house is equipped with everything you'd need, but could definitely use a thorough cleaning and perhaps some closet doors to hide the clutter. I've been renting vacation houses and cabins for years, and have never been responsible for the amount of cleaning that you take on when renting this house, and you are charged a cleaning fee. Perhaps relying so heavily on renters to clean is the reason for the less than clean state of the house. You are also responsible for driving your trash to the neighboring town’s community dumpster. All laundry has to be washed, dried, and put away prior to you leaving, which really makes it difficult to get a head start on a long drive home the morning of your departure day.
The property manager is nice enough, and leaves you to your privacy after a lengthier than usual check-in. We had no idea if we'd have cell phone reception, but we did & it was flawless service. There is internet, but not wireless. As with most outdoor places in the summer, bug spray is a must!! Be very careful when walking on the private pier because there are several loose boards.
Pros: Overall, we really enjoyed the privacy, nature, view, screened in porch, and being able to have our dog with us. The rental rate minus the cleaning fee is fair as well.
Cons: Very hard bed on 1st floor, cleanliness, extent of cleaning renters are responsible for, very slow draining bathtub on 1st floor (unless he has gotten this fixed, you will stand in your shower water), & a toilet that isn't fully functioning on the 2nd floor.
On a side note, I would highly, highly recommend taking a ferry to Cape Lookout National Seashore (awesome shelling opportunities and beaches where you won’t see another person!!). We rented a Kubota 4x4 for the day and spent the entire day on the island. It was awesome adventuring all around the island!! Also, recommend taking a short ferry to the Rachel Carson Reserve in Beaufort where you will likely get the opportunity to see the wild horses.
The house was a great value and the manager of the property was very responsive and friendly. After notifying him that the coffee pot didn't work he very quickly came to the rescue with a brand new one. :) We enjoyed our stay and the ability to have our dogs with us. They enjoyed the docks and watching the crabs. Mosquito repellent is a must.
Our favorite day was spent at Cape Lookout. The Island Express Ferry from Harker's Island to Cape Lookout allows leashed pets to ride for a $5 fee. (Adults $15, kids up to 11 $8) Saw wild horses from the ferry and enjoyed the beach with my daughter while my husband climbed the lighthouse. Queen Anne's Revenge Restaurant in Beaufort has a pet friendly patio seating area.
We had a wonderful time in this vacation home. Very peaceful. Sitting on the covered deck with a cup of coffee in the morning was relaxing. The kids had a wondreful time fishing from the pier. The house was eqiupped with everything as if you were at home. Will definately rent again in the future.
Lovely house, very private location. Brought our own bedding because of the last review -but didn't need them, there were plenty ...as for curtains - the house is completely surrounded by trees...the only way to see into a window, would be to climb one of them.
Excellent family stay! Really for those who like privacy not party towns. Loved the dock. 30 min drive to the atlantic beach which is beautiful. Best if u bring your own bedding and pillows... and some curtians :). Great owner who gives you space to relax and enjoy the home; prompt return on deposit; great price. We will rent this house again.
