The Location is Unbelievable
The stunning location of this property provides a lifetime memory and the owner was prompt and easy to work with. I rented the house for overflow of family and friends coming for a birthday party and was pleased with the result. This house is clearly someones home, it is not a "vacation rental". The good is that there is wonderful and quirky art and great furnishings... it is like going to see a good friend. The more uncomfortable part, is a feeling of being is someone else's home that you are working around rather than a whole house rental experience. The lovely pull out in the porch area is not yet suitable as a sleeping area due to the musty smell, but all other areas were great. For the number of people sleeping in the house (we had 10) the 1 plus 1/2 bath was a bit unnerving for our crowd, but we rented a port-a-john so people could enjoy the beach, fireplace, kayaks, and spectacular island without going in and out of the home. Our crowd was a little fussy about not having instructions to access wi-fi, having to share one key on a troublesome lock, and not having coffee on site; but with some foresight, and asking better questions in advance I could have planned for this. Susan was a great hostess that did make her self quickly available at each part of the transaction. We have no hesitation in recommending this house again for a splendid holiday.
Excellent choice for my family based on the information provided. All amenities were carefully thought-out and available. Very charming site, close to outside activities with enough inside spaces to accommodate the variety of persons we brought. Very clean and carefully organized. Definitely recommendable and memorable.
A quiet and private area with great views of the water and a large lot for plenty of yard games and fun. Plenty of activities provided by the host from games, to outdoor activities, and water sports. Susan was very helpful with the check in process and very easy to contact and get a hold of if needed. Perfect place for a low key get away and for some great star gazing on a clear night!
We absolutely loved this house and this trip. Susan is so welcoming and friendly, and her home is beautiful, in an stunning area, and offers so many activities. The kayaks were such a bonus! We had an easy drive to and from DC (less than two hours) and really loved the beautiful garden, playing lawn games, grilling, and soaking in the scenery. I can't recommend this home and Susan enough!
Amazing waterfront property with everything you could need
We stayed at this place for a family vacation over the 4th of July extended weekend. We were there for (4) nights. The outside property is absolutely the selling point. The Kayaks, the Bikes, the Hammocks, all got used with our small family. We loved the chickens and spent way too much time with them. The pier was a great place to spend sunsets and 4th of July at dusk was amazing out there. The only downside is the bugs, but once a nice breeze comes in off the water they tend to not be an issue.
I would say the inside of the house leaves a bit to be desired, but the outdoor space more than made up for it. The beds are older and tough to sleep on, and the main room had (0) pieces of comfortable furniture. I also felt the AC (we were there in July so it was hot) was not working great, but we tend to like things colder than most so that may just be us.
The community is extremely nice and the restaurant up the street was amazing food, and we got some crabs from a local fisherman that were amazing as well.
Overall, it was a PERFECT spot for our family of (7) people spread out over (4) bedrooms. The house was a bit dated but still extremely gorgeous with uniqueness to catch your eye each time you walk through a room. The bathrooms were comfortable and the master bedroom was gorgeous ( I didn't get that one though). I think any quirks inside that may not make it feel worthwhile were immediately forgotten upon walking outside. 10/10 would consider this house again for our family vacations.
We had a fantastic time gathering 4 generations for a long weekend at Susan's beautiful spot on the water. Susan was very welcoming and helpful. The house is charming and comfortable for a large group. We appreciated all the details, both inside and outside. The kitchen is very well equipped. The whole family enjoyed the little beach and dock for playing in the water and kayaking and just taking in the unspoiled water views. The sunsets were spectacular. The little ones loved seeing the chickens wandering the property and even got to collect eggs in the morning. There are comfy spots on the porches and in the yard to relax and there's plenty of space for games, including outdoor pingpong! The flower beds were a delight, as was the abundant bird life. We didn't want to leave once we got there.
We had a great time! The house is lovely, well-maintained, and well-stocked. The location right on the St. Mary’s River is gorgeous. And with canoe, kayaks, and paddle boards right there, we were out on the water nearly every day. Susan is a great owner, who gave clear info on the house upon checkin and who was responsive throughout our time there. She also pointed us to a local waterman, who provided us delicious locally caught crabs for a memorable dinner we had out on the house’s pier. We had a terrific time!
The property met all of our expectations and then some. The house was the best stocked home we ever stayed at. Great location with lots sports equipment available for our use. The property owner was so accommodating for all our needs and special requests. We would love to return.
Wonderful Time -- Wonderful Property -- Wonderful Landlord
We had a family party in the area. 8 adults stayed here and it had plenty of room and a fantastic view of the rivers. The beach made it easy to get the Kayaks and paddle boards into the water. Right down the street was a great place to get crabs. The crabs were large and fresh and juicy. Susan treated us like her personal guests instead of a renter. The home was filled with her family furniture, including a piano. We enjoyed the outdoor space sooo much. We truly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it!
Loved it. Love being on the water and having access to paddleboards and kayaks and the pier! It was great.

Charming indeed
Stayed here with my wife and kids and another couple with their kids. This place is exceedingly charming and comfortable, decorated with character and class. Interesting antiques and pieces throughout, and updated kitchen, bathroom etc. We spent most of our stay near or on the water, enjoyed a feast of crabs -- acquired with the owner's help -- on the dock, and generally relaxed. The water is calm and quiet, and so is the area; a wonderful contrast to more crowded areas on the Chesapeake. We'll certainly be coming back and we can't wait!

A great vacation
A group of us came up to Susan's place for the weekend for a triathlon, and stayed after. Susan's home is beautiful and the attached dock, outdoor shower, fire pit, and grill, were exactly what we wanted.
Susan also went above and beyond as a host, contacting us ahead of time, making sure we had everything we needed, recommending places to visit/eat on the island, and procuring us a bushel of cooked local crab (this was unbelievable). I really recommend staying here.

Excellent!
We stayed with some friends for a long week-end and loved it. The place is really peaceful and beautiful and Susan was really helpful. We had access to many extras like canoes and bikes which we really appreciated. Taking our breakfast on the pier or looking at the stars from the deck was priceless! We'll be back :)

We enjoyed the our weekend stay. location is beautiful and would highly recommend it. The bathroom situation would need to be looked at and for the owners protection if she intends to rent her antiques would need to be removed or put in a safe place
