With a laid back rustic feel, Casa Morfo sits within the jungle, under the shade of a bamboo grove overlooking ocean views. Wake to the sounds of the jungle and the ocean out your window. Relax on the spacious tiled porch, you swing on the hammock, lounge on the ample built-in benches on the wood deck, and enjoy the views and wildlife around you. Take a refreshing dip in your private plunge pool. Luxuriate in your unique rock wall enclosed indoor/outdoor shower - the best of both. Prepare delicious meals in your fully equipped kitchen with all new appliances. This house is named for the enormous electric-blue butterflies we see fluttering around here.

About Khalida Lockheed & Alexander Jimenez

We are a Tico-Gringa couple living on the property who met here in 1993 and have two little monkeys of our own. He hails from neighboring Cóbano and she comes all the way from New Jersey, USA. After living in The Big Apple for 9 years, we decided to move back to the 'ol hometown in 2006 so the kids could swap jungle gyms for the jungle, and we happily left computer maintenance and children's animated television behind! Because of our bicultural heritage and our deep roots in the local community, we are able to provide you with an authentic Costa Rican experience that also respects the unique concerns of tourists from abroad.

Khalida Lockheed & Alexander Jimenez purchased this house in 2005

Why Khalida Lockheed & Alexander Jimenez chose Montezuma

The beautiful views of the ocean and the mainland beyond, the lush jungle and abundant wildlife, the unique location bordering the Montezuma River, and the proximity to Montezuma village yet secluded feeling was what attracted us to this spot. It is one of only a few properties in this area that have these sought after features.

What makes this house unique

This is one of a very few properties in Montezuma with private access to the world famous Montezuma River and Waterfalls. We border 800 meters of the river in a secluded spot with many private waterfalls and dipping pools. The river also ensures a very vibrant and healthy community of wildlife. Most guests say that they have seen more wildlife here than anywhere else they have traveled in Costa Rica!

Peaceful hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Casa Morfo is a compact house, one of four at Agua Vista. While it does not have a/c, the windows and fans worked fine, and it was good to feel comfortable in a minimal impact house. Perhaps we were spoilt in being just two of us, so using the second bedroom as a dressing room, but space was good, and the semi-outdoor shower great fun. Casa Morfo is tucked away, with plenty of jungle in view towards the coast, and therefore the coatis and agoutis were intensely relaxed about nosing around the little garden in front. And the communal pool is spectacular. Depends on your timing, I'm sure, but no-one but us used it while we were there. Swim towards the infinity edge, and what you see is ocean in front of you, leading up to the mainland in the distance. Wonderful!

Alex and Khalida were always on hand, very friendly and full of local knowledge to share. Southern Nicoya can be a bit adventuresome (you really should be prepared to have a 4x4 to get there), but they'll help you relax and get the most out of your stay. See you soon!

Extremely disappointed with our stay so much so we left after one night

  • 1 of 5

After a long day on the road we arrive to find the roads into the property where EXTREMELY rough and more a trail than a road. We where greeted with "Who are you we aren't expecting anyone today" Despite the fact we had communicated with them just that morning and told them our arrival time. We where shown to Casa Morpho and the owner showed us around and pointed out where everything was. After a long day of travel we where ready for a nice cold drink except that wasn't possible since the ice trays in the freezer where empty. The "ocean view from the veranda" was a small sliver of grey on the horizon that to really see you needed to be 6 foot or taller. Next was the shower which turned out to be a cold shower do to the fact that with the hot water on full it was just a dribble and never got even close to warm luckily the cold water wasn't ice cold but still not pleasant. The next morning it was time for a fresh start and a good cup of coffee only problem was the french press was worn out and my first cup had at least a 1/4 inch of grounds in it. Luckily we had some regular coffee filters we used to solve that problem. Maybe I'm strange but the key to a good stay, especially after a long drive is a warm welcome a cold drink and a hot shower and they failed on all three. I would not feel comfortable recommending to anyone that they stay here. We left the next morning even though we had already paid for a second night.

Owner's Response: We are, of course, very sorry that you were disappointed with your stay with us. It is hard for us to address any problems, however, if they are not communicated with us. We would have happily provided you with ice and the hot water was a very simple thing to fix. We are also human - of course we were expecting you - but sometimes, between the distractions and trials of family life, you can have a fully human space out moment. Immediately, however, I recovered and apologized and we all chatted happily. We are a simple family run business of four houses in the middle of the jungle in a rural location in Costa Rica. For the most part we have been extremely lucky and have hosted interested, adventurous, nature loving travelers who have delighted in our location and the authentic experience we offer. It was clear from speaking with you that this area was probably not a good fit for you, socially, politically, and service wise. Undoubtedly, the more developed and visited areas of Costa Rica, like Jaco and Tamarindo, were more appealing to you and better served your needs.

Beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

Stayed at Morfo for 5 days, wish we had more time to stay and just relax. Woke to sounds of the jungle, and star watching at night, loved those howlers.

Alex and Khalida were great hosts, eager to help in any way they could. Housekeeping daily, the place was exceptionally clean. Loved the outdoor shower.

Would love to stay again and soak in the tranquility of the place. Thanks Khalida and Alex for sharing your place

Peace and loveliness in the jungle!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I recently stayed in Casa Morpho at Agua Vista, Montezuma. The house was adorable and totally efficient, the jungle surroundings were lush and tranquil, and the owners, Khalida and Alex, were terrific hosts. They are such nice people.

We enjoyed the ocean view from our veranda and sat out each night after dark with just the light of a couple of tea candles to talk, laugh and enjoy the sounds of the jungle. No worries here.

I love that Alex has recycled many items he uses in his gorgeous gardens. The koi ponds are amazing! The entire property is so authentically Costa Rican, and the ocean view from their horizon pool is just breathtaking.

We own a beautiful home in Montezuma which we rent out but I would stay here again in a heartbeat if our house was occupied.

Thanks, Alex and Khalida; we'll be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Kathy, for taking the time to write this! This review is quite a compliment considering the beautiful home that you have here in Montezuma. It was, of course, a delight to have you and your daughter here with us and we can't wait to see you again (especially our girls). Warm wishes, KAFE
