About Jeff and Sarah Croswell

Meet the Croswell Crew and welcome to our family's Peace of Petit Jean! We are Jeff and Sarah Croswell, both native Arkansans, along with our seven wonderful children. Jeff, a graduate of University of Arkansas, is an Electrical Engineer for AT&T, our resident handy man, and serves on the board of directors of several local organizations. Sarah is an online Science Instructor for Arch Ford Co-op and is President of the Conway County Arts Council. She is also the drama director and LEGO Robotics coach at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Morrilton, where 6 of our children are enrolled. Our three oldest children serve as the cabin cleaning and grounds crew, and our middle daughter, Kendall, is the certified babysitter and sells her homemade baked goodies upon request.

Jeff and Sarah Croswell purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Jeff and Sarah Croswell chose Arkansas

The Rock House Cabin was our main residence until 2014, when we moved into town to be closer for all the children's activities. At one time this property served as home to Turtle Rock Farms--our family's Certified Naturally Grown pastured poultry and heirloom tomato farm and greenhouse. Petit Jean Mountain was always our favorite summer destination, so when we had the opportunity to purchase a cabin, we jumped on it. While remodeling, our family fell in love with the idea of living here more than just on the weekends, so we sold our house in Conway and made the move permanent. The original cabin had two bedrooms, one bath, one closet, and no flooring or central heat and air. In order to accommodate a family of our size, we added two bedrooms, two baths, several closets, central heat & air, two porches, new windows, flooring, a laundry room, siding, and remodeled the kitchen. This property has been a labor of love for us and we hope to always keep it in our family for getaways, parties, and reunions. Sharing the Rock House Cabin with others will ensure that our family's Peace of Petit Jean will be around for years to come.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our nonprofit board held our annual board retreat at the Rock House Cabin and it was perfect! The scenic, quiet setting was just what we needed to get our creative juices flowing. The spacious great room was perfect for socializing, group discussions, and our evening jam session. The open kitchen allowed us to keep our planning sessions going while cooking our meals. Everything we needed and a lot of the extras were provided for us. The beautiful rock fireplace made the whole place warm and cozy. The only regret was the weather didn't allow us to get outside and enjoy the park amenities directly across the road. We will definitely make Rock House Cabin the home of our annual board retreat!

Fun stay

  • 5 of 5

It was so kid friendly!! The trampoline, swing set , inside Rock wall, kid bunk room...it was perfect for our kids. It was clean. We had a wonderful stay.

My first impression was that the yard needed to be mowed. Poison ivy killed from play area but the stay was so good that I forgot all about that.

Peaceful Piece of Petit Jean

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Jeff and Sarah. Seldom have we felt so peaceful on a family vacation as we did staying at the Rock House for 5 nights last week!

The home is indeed great for children. Our youngsters enjoyed the trampoline, indoor climbing wall, and swingset all week and never tired of them. They loved having bunk beds.

As for my wife and I, there is a long list of things we liked. The location was fantastic, centrally located on the mountain, close to Bailey Lake, Mather Lodge, and literally across the street from the turtle rocks and Rock House cave. Traffic noise is very minimal and the loudest sounds are frogs and the resident cardinals. The home is architecturally a pleasant mix of old and new, with tons of natural light in the main rooms.

Beds were comfy, the heat and A/C worked great, the jetted tub was heavenly, water pressure was good throughout the house with plenty of hot water, there were pretty flowers outside and in a vase, the well-graveled driveway minimized mud on us and our vehicle when it rained, and the electronic lock made for a no-hassle check-in and entry. The huge dining room table allowed for meals to be eaten without moving board games and puzzles. The open floor plan in the living room/kitchen allowed plenty of room for children to play with the family in one area. Everyone enjoyed roasting marshmallows in the large, safe firepit with wood provided. Stargazing was magnificent on the clear nights! When it rained, we enjoyed hearing the frogs on the screen porch and there was a large picnic table there for meals, too. The kitchen was very well stocked with both cooking tools and condiments; we had all the butter, cooking oil, and spices we needed. (Though the kitchen is in need of a new can opener; the existing one has a dull blade.)

The rental agreement specifies using only T.P. with the septic; we did and had no problems flushing. The home was clean and the only maintenance suggestion I would make is to add more paper towels and facial tissue for longer stays.

We would definitely stay here again if the opportunity allows, and are glad that out of all of Arkansas, we chose to stay at the Rock House!

Great place for a family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had 4 generations of family stay here while attending a wedding. There was so much for the youngest to do both inside as well as outside. The hosts have taken the time to make sure everything you need is available. The grounds were beautiful and easy distance to other places to explore. We will be back again in the future.

Great feel and large space

  • 3 of 5

This place was very kid friendly and had plenty of space for our large family. We enjoyed the closeness to the trails and the fire pit. There are some minor repairs needed at the home so I could not give it 5 stars. Overall a great place to stay.
