About James and Elizabeth Roach

James and Libby Roach. We're both the youngest of large families. We both grew up in

Beattyville and chose to raise our family here. We've been married for 25 years and have two daughters, 23 and 20. I am an elected official(Property Valuation Administrator) in Lee County and James works in the construction business. We love the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

James and Elizabeth Roach purchased this cabin in 2009

Why James and Elizabeth Roach chose Kentucky

We bought this 40 acre property because it is located close to our home. This 3rd generation family farm had been carefully cared for by our neighbor 'Bill' who lived a long life there. When he passed away in 2009, we purchased it from his family. We think of the property as 'Bill's Place', therefore we named it that. Bill was a real character in our small town and will not be easily forgotten. It didn't take long to realize how peaceful 'Bill's Place' was. We decided to remodel his home into the beautiful cabin it is today, and share it with others. The property is like many in our area. It was home to Bill's family where he and his siblings were raised by living off the land. There is evidence of the original homestead still there. The lawn has many fruit trees, planted by Bill. The barn wood on the walls of the upstairs in the cabin was taken from Bill's old barn. There is a picture of the barn hanging upstairs. We found heirloom, garden seeds in the barn from years ago. I was told by Bill's sister, Abby, that the rose in the front yard was brought from the original homestead and before that from another old homestead. She ask me to take care of her mother's rose. James and I feel like we are the caretakers of this wonderful property for now and will pass it on just as the family before us. The property's history shows it's self every time we are there. We feel honored be part of it.

What makes this cabin unique

Visiting 'Bill's Place' will be a peaceful getaway from the hustle of life. It will force you to slow down and enjoy nature while enjoying all the comforts of home. The area offers something for everyone. Many of our guests are here to visit family and friends for a homecoming. Many enjoy the Wooly Worm Festival held annually in October. If you love old cars, you'll want to visit Beattyville for car shows, street cruise-in and old engine and tractor shows. Lee County is known for horse riding, off road atv/jeep riding, world class rock climbing. Lee County is home to the Three Forks of the Kentucky River that offers boating and fishing. We are located near Natural Bridge State Park, Red River Gorge, Red River Gorge Zipline Adventures. We are within minutes of The Lee County Recreational Center that offers bowling, fitness center, pizza, etc.

Lee County has 1000's of acres of the Daniel Boone National Forest located here that offers hiking, bird watching, cycling, ect.

Lee County offers Beattyville Country Club that is a 9 hole golf course.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cabin is exactly as pictured. We enjoyed every moment at the cabin and exploring the surrounding areas. The hot tub was a relaxing way to end the day. James and Libby are wonderful hosts and go above and beyond to make sure that your stay is ideal.

Amazing property!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for our family to spend a quiet weekend. The cabin is so peaceful and relaxing but also has the benefit of being a quick drive to restaurants or the state park. We really enjoyed our stay, from the fire pit to the hot tub. James and Libby were so easy to work with and have made this a very inviting space that we will definitely return to. Our thanks for a wonderful weekend!

I stayed here recently and we had a really wonderful time at this cabin. I loved it so much I am going to book it again in late summer. It is a very quiet, relaxing and private cabin to stay at and it is wonderfully maintained too.

I would give more stars if I could.... AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I fell in love with this cabin the second we saw it. We couldn't make it until after 9 on a Friday so we were pretty embarrassed when we had to call James and Libby to let us in. The door was actually unlocked like they said it would be, but we were having some trouble with the handle and assumed it was locked. Libby answered our call for help and showed up in minutes to let us in. She was extremely understanding about the door sticking and even took the time to share the story behind Bill's Cabin. We loved hearing the history of the cabin and enjoyed getting to meet Libby. THEN on Saturday night after a long day of hiking, we wanted to use the hot tub. Our tired minds did not consider that the back door would be locked after we exited the cabin and needless to say, we were locked out and had no idea what to do. Without cellphones or any keys, we were tempted to begin walking down the gravel road to find someone... ANYONE that could help us. And just like that, Libby and James come riding on a motorcycle down the road just in time for us to stop them. Of course we were mortified about our lock issues, but they were such gracious hosts and seemed to always be there to save the day when we were struggling. This cabin was so homey, SO clean and made our weekend away a true vacation. We loved everything about it and can't thank James and Libby enough for everything they did to make it perfect. 100% will be coming back to stay here!

Owner's Response: Thank you Hannah and Joe, I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay. We really appreciate our guests for choosing our cabin and want to do all that we can to make their visit enjoyable. We love meeting them if we get the opportunity, even if it's to come to their rescue, lol. We try to drive by every now and again to make sure everything is going okay but try not to disturb them. I'm always just a phone call away and we live nearby so we're usually available. You are always welcome and thank you for being great visitors. We look forward to your return. Thank you, James & Libby

Great, secluded cabin in a beautiful part of the US

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is a totally refurbished cabin. It is kept extremely neat and clean and includes many comforts of home. The location is very close to Beattyville as well as Natural Bridges State Park/Red River Gorge but the site itself is very private. You can see a house in the distance, but otherwise you feel like you have the world to yourself. There is a big field, great wooded views, and the stars from the hot tub at night are amazing. My family really enjoyed our stay, and I would recommend this cabin for families not really groups because the bedrooms are not private (except for the "master") and the interior is small and cozy (as a cabin should be). If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy while exploring the area this place is truly a gem.

Very clean and outfitted nicely. Hot tub was nice as well. We would definitely recommend this cabin to someone else as long as they are not wanting to rent it the same time as us next time we are there!!!
