You will feel welcome at our vacation house situated in front of the El Yunque National Rainforest on four tropical acres. Private gated access, on a small mountain just 1 mile from PR3! Furnished for your comfort! Large private patio with grill and hammocks. This is not a cramped condo or apartment with many neighbors. You will be in a safe country mountainside tropical jungle setting, with plenty of room to explore and enjoy!
The property is close to El Yunque National Forest, Luquillo (Monserrate) Beach (one of the best beaches on the island), Hacienda Allegre, 20 miles to San Juan, and 20 minutes to Fajardo for ferries to Culebra & Vieques.
Bedrooms: NO BUNK BEDS!
King bed in master suite with walk-in closet and separate bathroom with large shower. The second and third bedrooms contain queen beds, and a second Bathroom is nearby. A Pack N Play is also available for a traveling baby. Plenty of linens, pillows, and towels (including beach towels) are provided.
A queen air mattress is available, as well as a twin bed, and the sectional couch in living room is the equivalent of two twin beds.
The house has accommodated many gatherings with friends and family sharing in the food preparation in the open kitchen with large island, with many guests gravitating to the large patio, or the open two stall garage in rainy weather. Open floor plan and spacious rooms are located on one level, making it easy for elderly or toddlers to get around (no steps).
If you want to stay where you have all the amenities of home, yet are near many attractions the island has to offer, please consider reserving this home for your next vacation. The property has ceiling fans and air conditioners in each bedroom and in living room, cable tv with HBO & Starz, smart tv in master and guest room #1, flat screen and dvd in third bedroom, and wi-fi throughout.
We want your vacation to be a wonderful time and can help with anything you need before or during your stay.

Hector grew up in the center of the island (Orocovis) and moved to Michigan in the 70's. Each vacation opportunity, we would return to the island to stay with family. In 2001, we had an opportunity to purchase a piece of land close to a niece's house that we always ended up staying with on vacation because of her great location to everything (and her great Puerto Rican cooking!). When Hector retired in 2010, he returned to his homeland to supervise the construction of this vacation home.
Hector or Kim Melendez purchased this house in 2010
We chose this location because it is in close proximity to all the attractions and amenities of the big city of San Juan, the kid-friendly beach in Luquillo, and the ferries in Fajardo to neighboring islands Culebra and Vieques. We enjoy the privacy of the home and its surrounding tropical fruit, flowers, rocks, and palms. We are hybrid Tourists and Locals -- we want to see everything the island has to offer, but we don't want to pay the high costs associated with being a tourist, and we know THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO THE ISLAND THAN SAN JUAN!
The location of this home allows you to vacation comfortably with all the amenities of home. It is close enough to San Juan for an easy road trip, very close to Luquillo Beach, one of the best beaches on the island, and very close to the El Yunque National Forest. Move in for your vacation ... the house allows you to just relax, cook meals if you want, and spend quality time together. Excellent restaurants are in close proximity and there is a book in the home with recommendations, but feel free to ask us too!
If you have questions about the property, location, or the island in general, please feel free to contact us by telephone, text, or email.
This house is surrounded by rain forest vegetation and beautiful landscaping, including banana and mango trees. It is on a gated private drive with no close neighbors to deal with, a little ways up a mountain. A comfortable home.
I stayed at 2 houses while I was in Puerto Rico for my son's wedding. This was by far the nicer of the two. It is hard to tell from the picture how beautiful and private this home is. The landscaping is amazing. The house is very convenient to the entire northeast portion of the island. Unlike the other house we rented, it had all of the things you would need to stay there without you having to pack or buy a lot. Received damage deposit refund promptly after stay. I would recommend this house to anyone and I would definitely stay here again.
This house and property were amazing. Kim & Hector were so hospitable. They recommended outstanding attractions and guided our family through el Yunque and to the natural water slides. They also had great restaurant recommendations. The property was beautiful, full of wildlife, and fun to explore. It was close to el Yunque and the beach, and not a bad drive from San Juan.
After numerous emails, where Kim always responded in a timely manner and was extremely helpful, we decided to still go ahead and visit PR after Maria had hit. Kim and Hector had the place looking great, lots of beautiful plants and flowers! Though they still were without electricity, it never felt that way for us! They showed us how to use the generator and were very flexible, allowing us to decide when to use it. Most days we were gone 9a-9p running around PR, so the generator would run a few hours in the morning and a few hours at night. We had no issues with lack of electricity or water. If we had a question or needed a recommendation for places to eat/go, Kim was quick at responding and very helpful! We would definitely recommend La Lomita; wonderful hosts, lovely place, and an enjoyable time!
We had a wonderful family vacation staying at La Lomita!! Kim and Hector are wonderful hosts who go out of their way to make your stay as special as possible. Kim is quick to respond with advice on foods, activities and places only the locals know about. La Lomita has a beautiful tropical feel to it, with amazing landscaping and mountian views. Our first activity we did while here was take the short hike up the trail on the property to a mountian peak where we could see out for miles even to the ocean. My kids enjoyed seeing Dominoe (their dog) and the 4 stray cats that have made the mountain their home.
The location is perfect for day trips to San Juan, Luquillo, Fajardo, and Ponce. There are so many wonderful activies to choose from but our family (kids ages 11,13,15,18) chose to spend time together at the variety of different waterfalls and swimming holes. We visited El Yunque where we went to La Mina Falls and Angolito's trail.
La Mina falls, about a 30 minute hike, is very busy but has a nice view. Our kids are adventurous so we went directly below the falls to two smaller pools of water where the kids could jump off rocks and go under a small waterfall.
If you take the short 15 minute hike on Angelito's trail you will come to a nice pool of water with a small rope swing and the water is wonderfully refreshing after the short hike.
Las Paylas is a great local treasure with 2 natural waterslides and rocks for kids of all ages to jump off of into the refreshing mountain pools.
Kim took us to Charco El Hippie (about 50 minutes away) for our last day and we loved it there!! My kids wish we had gone every day! It has a very long (and about 20 feet up) rope swing that my 13 and 15 year old loved! Their are multiple rocks to jump off of into the mountain waters and a hike you can take to see the views from above the waterfalls. This was a great day!
We also took a quick trip to Escombron beach in San Juan for a great time of playing in the beautiful sand, swimming in the clear atlantic, snorkeling with the many colorful fish and trying out the new ocean activity that Kim introduced us to: Sea Glass hunting!!
All in all we had a wonderful adventure, made new friends in Kim and Hector and look forward to visiting their island escape again sometime soon!! I highly recommend La Lomita for families and couples looking for an island escape!!
Owners were great. Always there for you and great place to relax. I would recommend it to anyone.
It was fantastic!!!!!!!!!
This home is a great place to unplug and unwind from your busy life. The tourist attractions are easily accessible by expressways, but the home is tucked into a private rural piece of paradise, just 1 mile from Highway #3!
