About Stephen & Sarah Polacek
We currently live in Chester, Virginia with our two children. Stephen is active duty in the United States Army and works as a logistic officer. Our family truly enjoys the outdoors. Southern Oregon is one of our favorite places to spend time.
Stephen & Sarah Polacek purchased this House in 2011
Why Stephen & Sarah Polacek chose Grants Pass
We both grew up in North Bend, along the Oregon coast. Together with our families, we spent our childhood summers camping and rafting the Rogue. As children, we would float by the homes along the side of the river and always dream about someday owning one of them. In 2011, we decided it was time to fulfill that dream and purchased the house from its original owner. We have spent the last few years remodeling it inside and out. The home is now a favorite gathering place for our family and friends. We are enjoying watching the next generation create memories at the River House and discovering the magic of the Rogue River. The home truly is our childhood dream come true and our favorite place to vacation. We are so happy to share the magic with you!
What makes this House unique
The property has a park like setting with large grassy areas with lots of trees. The riverfront is a beautiful thing to wake up to each day. Sitting on the deck and looking at it flow by is very peaceful. The deck also serves as a wildlife viewing area. There is a family of deer that will often stroll through the yard in the evening to head to the river to get a drink. Lots of squirrels, birds, and other critters to enjoy.

A wonderful stay at cozy river front home.
Nicely decorated, extremely clean and very inviting. There is nothing that you will need to make your stay any nicer. Owner's has gone beyond what you would need to cook and make your stay comfortable. Very peaceful and beautiful. A place to go and renew your soul. A beautiful view of the Rogue River.
Relaxing, peaceful, great view....
We arrived to some smoke in the air but it cleared up the next day, and the weather was perfect the whole time with cool mornings and evenings, warm afternoons. The house is great, roomy, nice sized bedrooms, baths and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook. The pantry was very helpful with a griddle (yay pancakes) and toaster etc. Plenty of dishes and wine glasses, a good assortment of cookware and storage containers. The house was really clean when we arrived, everything ready for our stay. The deck is a great space to sit, or lay on the hammock and watch the river, drink wine, nosh and just relax. The dogs loved going down by the river to explore and play in the water. It is a little steep in a place or two, but 3 out of 4 adults (I'm less graceful) were able to take their wine down to the river. It's a great location to so many things to do, the Grants Pass farmers market and artisan market (located next to each other) was a fantastic place to shop on Saturdays. Going to many the different wineries and antique shops is an easy drive to Grants Pass, Medford, Jacksonville and Ashland. Would highly recommend Baldini's restaurant in Merlin, great food at good prices and staff is very friendly. All of this made possible by Sarah and Stephen who were great to work with before and during our stay. Also cudos to the house cleaning crew. So much to do not enough time, we will definitely be back.
Home sweet home
Great location. Home was well decorated, had lots of space, and a was well stocked. We prepared/grilled most of our meals there. Enjoyed seeing wildlife on the property. Bees keep us indoors more than we had hoped.
Lovely home on the beautiful Rogue River
We had a wonderful time during our two night stay. The house was immaculate. Comfortable beds with nice linens. Two nice bathrooms with lots of towels. Everything we needed in the kitchen and a nice BBQ on the back porch. The best part of the property was the river access. We loved wading in the river and our dog had a blast swimming. It’s shallow, so nice for kids to play. I also enjoyed having my coffee on the bank and watching birds in the morning. Absolutely beautiful. We shared the house with another family, and there was plenty of space. Teens enjoyed the TV room with dish cable movies in the evenings. There’s lots to do in the area as well. We had a great time and would recommend this house as a very good value for a comfortable stay right on the Rogue.
Pictures do not do justice!
This home and location was amazing. We had booked a 10 day stay here which lasted less than 24 hours after being evacuated because of wildfires and were saddened to leave such a perfect place. The house was spacious and very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our 24 hours! The deck was incredible as was the peaceful and quiet setting on the river. Sarah and Steven were accommodating and helpful and we couldn't have asked for nicer hosts. We look forward to going back next summer.
