About Jonathan Willick

My wife and our family are Canadians living in San Diego and we bought this little place to have somewhere to go with the family to get away from the city and experience a bit of winter fun like skiing and sledding. We love heading up to Big Bear whenever we have a free weekend, its a great place to visit year round and has a lot of beautiful scenery and things to do.

What makes this cabin unique

The place is an easy walk to Bear Mountain for anyone wanting to ski, you can go back and forth or go home for lunch and it is convenient with small children. There is also a lot of mountain biking in the area during the summer months. The deck has a great view of the trees and is a relaxing place to kick back and relax.

The cabin was great! There were only two of us and our two kitties, so we were cozy and warm, plus we appreciated having DirecTV so I could watch football. We also liked having a kitchen with dishes available to us. My husband and I arrived two days before Christmas and that night a snowstorm hit, which gave us two feet of snow. Unfortunately, even after snow shoveling for quite a few hours, we couldn't get our car out of the driveway the whole weekend, causing us to miss Christmas Eve and Day with friends. We had luckily done a little shopping, so we had chips, dip, and chocolate cake to eat for the whole weekend. A snowplow dude tried to help Christmas Day, but he couldn't even get us out. We finally had to have the car towed out of the driveway the day after Christmas, so we could go home on time. Right after that, it was time for us to leave. We were upset at the time, but Jonathan apologized and later helped make things better for us, which we appreciate. We can't get our Christmas back, but it greatly helped that our complaints were heard, and because of this, we will likely come back. Maybe not during winter, though. Finally, I suggest that you park near the top of the driveway in the winter. No one expected as much snow as we got, and this will be one of those stories we'll tell and laugh about for a long time. Eventually.

The cabin was cute and cozy and perfect for a small family

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin! The cabin was in excellent condition and everything that we needed was there - dishes, pots and pans, towels, dish soap, etc. There are a handful of games to play which was a nice surprise - my kids were delighted to see Lincoln logs! It's a small place, and the only bathroom is off of the master, but its absolutely perfect for a small family!

The cabin is on a steep lot; there is room to park one car up on the street and the yard wasn't too steep to build a snowman and throw a few snowballs, and if you're comfortable steering then it would be great for sledding!

Great little cabin perfect for a family or 4 friends. It has all you need. giant backyard

  • 4 of 5

The place is great to experience a truly rustic winter paradise just hours from Southern California (San Diego). Cabin has all you need just bring your sleds (winter) because my kids along with neighbor kids made their own sled trail.., yes it is that big out back! Wanted to use the BBQ on the deck but honestly didn't feel like cooking!!! The heater worked amazing ... don't turn up past 68 it can get hot!!! The fireplace was so nice! Fully stocked kitchen and washer/dryer. Definitely going to be our go to destination!!! Remember to park atop the steepish driveway if snow or ice is forecasted or already on the ground ... other than that we had a blast! It is literally around the block from bear mountain!!!

A cozy, clean little cabin!

  • 4 of 5

My husband, dog and I loved our stay here. It was clean and cute, in a great location (walking to resorts and beautiful neighborhood). Surrounded by trees, it was very relaxing and cozy. The fireplace was great to have, and we would have enjoyed lounging on the beautiful patio if it weren't freezing and covered in a ton of snow. :)

One note for travelers is that the mattresses aren't super soft. I slept completely fine and was comfortable (and I'm picky!), but if you have really serious back issues or similar, it is worth noting.

Overall, we loved this place and would return again.
