Located off Burgess Creek just below Thunderhead lift.
Because location matters, we welcome you to Trails Edge. Whether you’re planning a day of champagne powder skiing in the winter or hiking and mountain biking in the summer, all you have to do is step out the door. Choose to ski down to the mountain base via the Right O Way ski run (easy green run) or take a short walk up to the Thunderhead lift to access the top of the mountain for “first tracks”. The ski runs make great trails for hiking, mountain biking and even playing a round of disc golf on the 19 “hole” course during our gorgeous summer months. Our decks are a great place to watch hot air balloons rise over the valley, gaze up at Mt Werner and the Steamboat ski resort and of course our beautiful mountain sunsets. With the new addition, the deck is larger and features a gas grill and seating area.
After a day of outside fun, return to the house for some time to relax. Enjoy a soak in the hot tub, watch a movie or your favorite ballgame on the big screen TV, play a game of ping pong, or curl up with a good book and wait for the sunset – you won’t be disappointed. Your group can prepare a terrific meal in our newly remodeled kitchen which features a top of the line Jenn-Air range/oven. The open floor plan will invite everyone to gather for food and conversation around the dining room and breakfast bar with additional seating in the solarium.
When you’re ready to call it a night, we offer 5 bedrooms which sleep 14. Beyond the bedrooms is a redesigned queen+ sleeper sofa by American Leather which promises comfort for 2 in the upper level solarium. The lower level bedroom also doubles as a TV/ rec room and features accordion doors for privacy. There are 5 bathrooms, 2 new with this years addition and the other 3 with updates and remodeling completed for the 2014/15 season.
Just minutes away is charming, downtown Steamboat Springs. Filled with an abundance of fantastic restaurants and lots of shopping, it’s a great place to spend a day or evening. Be sure to visit Howelson Hill where many US Olympians train for Nordic ski jumping. Or have some fun of your own with snow tubing in the winter and riding the alpine slide in the summer, with an ice arena just a few steps down the street.
There are 3-4 parking spaces available. During snow season our road is rated '4 WHEEL DRIVE'. There are no deliveries by UPS & FedEx during these months. We strongly recommend 4 wheel drive vehicles only during this season. (Yes, the snow is that good!)

About Todd Stauffer
After graduating from Steamboat High School in 1981 it has always been my dream to come back to this area. With my parents' passing, I really wanted to keep this special property in the family. It is filled with lots of memories of holidays spent together watching our families grow. So with our children grown and now having grandchildren of our own we decided it was the perfect time to return to the mountain. We are so blessed to be able to live here in Steamboat and be able to share this place with others.
Todd Stauffer purchased this House in 2014
Why Todd Stauffer chose Steamboat Springs
When my parents purchased the land in 1976 my brother, sisters and I were absolutely amazed. We had been vacationing here for several years and were thrilled that they were going to build their home here.
What makes this House unique
We may be a little biased, but feel we have the best location at Mt Werner. Trails Edge offers not only ski-in/ski-out access, but also spectacular views in a quiet neighborhood setting. The home's 3 levels provide several separate living areas for guests to enjoy different activities.

Perfect location and accomodations
Our three families of 14 people had a wonderful week at this property! The house was a perfect location to access the slopes. Lots of things for the kids to do and plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Awesome week!
Spacious, warm home w everything you need and true access to the slopes. The treat we hoped for...
Great location and special home. Owners super nice and live in adjoining ppty. Not in your business, just there to make sure you’re happy.
Super nice home
My husband and I rented "Stairway to Heaven" for a week of skiing with our 3 daughters and their families. The house is huge and designed well for privacy or communal interaction, whichever you are interested in. The top level had 3 bedrooms which was enough space for the families to spread out and for the kids to play or nap. There was even a basket of age appropriate toys for them to play with, although we brought quite a few of our own.
The middle level was where our master suite was and we hung out for cooking, meals and visiting. The master closet is huge (lots of hangers - yay!). The kitchen is very well equipped. We brought stuff to make gumbo. pulled pork and lasagna and they had some nice big soup pots, extra baking dishes and plenty of silverware. An assortment of spices were there so no need to pick up the ordinary seasonings.
The lower level had the hot tub, ping pong table and ski room with - wait for it - boot and glove dryers!! There was a large area that we closed off and put the sleeping babies in with their monitors for naps and nighttime. There were so many configurations of sleeping arrangements that everyone got some rest.
The furniture, cabinets, linens, appliances and supplies were stellar. Plenty of toilet tissue, laundry pods, dishwasher soap, shower soap, towels and blankets for the week. We had some of the group that had to work online remotely and got up early. Some of us stayed up later and had plenty of areas to sit and chat. Lots of chairs and rockers or gliders which came in handy with the babies.
The stairs were well designed and safe but it is a bit of a hike. Coming from sea level, we got our cardio workout but we still came home for lunch and went up and down without any trouble. We are in our mid 60s with arthritic knees but it was fine.
The local moose, "Junior", paid us a visit eating grass and peering in the downstairs windows. I'd say the kids got a kick out of it but we all did!
The only downside to this house is that it isn't on the shuttle route. We had too many people to rent a car and used GoAlpine to get around. Our skis were delivered and picked up and the guys went straight from the airport to the grocery with a list while the girls went to the house with babies/luggage.
Todd and Sherri could not have been more responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to stay here again. It was perfect for our group.
Excellent Ski House
Perfect house for a multi-generational family and friends ski vacation. The house is well equipped for cooking, stashing ski gear, hosting children and entertaining. The ski-in/ski- out feature made it easy for our group to come and go at different times and to eat lunch in as desired. Attentive hosts were responsive to questions and requests. Definitely recommend this lovely home with updated kitchen and bathrooms.
Great house and great owners
Overall everything you want in a ski in ski out. Great owners also.
great ski in/ski out house in Steamboat
Just spent 5 nights at the Trails Edge Chalet on our annual guys trip. The hosts are wonderful. The house is big. The location can't be beat. The house is very well equipped. Everything we needed was there. This is one of the cleanest houses we have leased in our 28 years of guy trips. Highly recommended! Thanks Todd and Sherri.
Just step outside to access hiking and mountain biking trails. Thunderhead ski lift is just 200 yards up the hill which provides access to the 19 'hole' disc golf course. A favorite attraction just minutes away is beautiful Fish Creek Falls. There is a paved trail to the falls overlook as well as a well maintained walking trail down to the base of the falls.
