Overview

About the property

Great for families and reunions, not for bachelor golfer party groups.

This is a rare and unique creek house located on the creek in Murrells Inlet. It has been in our family for more than 90 years, and has been renovated and updated inside for comfort and modern conveniences The house comes with a private dock built in 2017, and a floating dock if you wish to bring your boat. We are 1/4 mile south of the public boat ramp in Murrells Inlet. Plenty of parking on our lot for boat trailers. Electric power and fresh water hoses on dock. The creek is navigable at all tides from the dock, and there is a swim ladder on the dock. Guests can enjoy activities such as swimming, fishing, crabbing, oystering, clamming, and boat riding. Kayaking from our floating dock is made easy. Owner, with permission, sometimes has access to his boat, which is kept separate from the dock on a boat lift. This will not unduly interfere with your use of the dock.

Beaches (Pawleys Island, Litchfield, and Garden City) are minutes away by car. Renown Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington State Park, 3 miles away, are jewels on the Grand Strand. The public boat ramp is 1/4 mile to our north.

This property has almost a acre of land on the Inlet under beautiful 300 year old live oaks and has a great grassy front yard near the Inlet which is a safe , wonderful play area for children. Please bring life jackets for smaller children so that they can fish, crab, and play on the dock.

This is one of the few remaining original creek houses left on the waterfront, and is full of nostalgia and history. We have many who book a year in advance to return.

Laid back, restful, quiet and private.

Why Mr. Rice chose Grand Strand - Myrtle Beach

We cater to young couples with children, families and small family reunions, fishermen and water themed users. Those who anticipate having house parties, men's golf groups, and college breaks would much prefer Myrtle Beach to Marshmere. We do not allow guests to have noisy parties in the yard, weddings, or other events which may disturb our neighbors. We are zoned residential, and we wish to maintain the quiet solitude and ambiance we have come to know in Murrells Inlet.

What makes this house unique

Much porch sitting (one open porch, one screened, on water side)

and dock use are primary activities at our beloved house.

We all had the best time!! Definitely want to return next year (with our boat). The house had everything we needed. The dock and the back porch were our favorite!!!!! The Rides were very kind to us and were there if we needed anything. Thanks so much for a lifetime of family memories!!!! We hope to see you next summer if not before!

Southern charm at its best!

  • 5 of 5

We come here every year- ten college friends, now in retirement, with the ideal spot to reconnect. Morning coffee on the porch, looking out at the marshes through moss draped trees, start our day. Evening sunsets and the moon shining across the waters to end our day. The dock is a perfect spot for fishing or tying up a boat for creek excursions. You are only a short walk or drive to restaurants and shops, kayak and jet ski rentals, miniature golf, local beaches, if a bit of excitement is more your thing. This family place oozes charm and the owners are welcoming as well as responsive to your needs. You'll leave reluctantly!!!

Owner's Response: Dear Park City, We think you hit the nail on the head about the beauty and restfulness of Marshmere. We describe it as peaceful, time stopping. This is the only classic creek house and dock in Murrells Inlet that is on the rental market to a special brand of travelers. Thanks for the review, and you're of course welcome back as special guests who have grown attached to the place.

Marshmere!! Southern coastal charm nestled in the ideal location!

  • 5 of 5

We had another wonderful vacation at Marshmere. This comfortable and charming creekside family home is one of our absolute favorite places to stay at the beach! It's right on the inlet and only a short ride to the beach. The new dock is beautiful and very functional! The allure of this house is it's charm and seclusion among towering oaks while being within walking and biking distance of all of the best restaurants at the beach as well as many activities like fishing, boating, kyaking and other water sports. If you have your own boat, you can put in at the nearby public ramp and sail from Marshmere's dock your whole visit. We always take our jet skis and love being able to walk out the back door and take off whenever we want!

Leon Rice always welcomes us and is available to answer questions or help with any issues. His genuine hospitality lets you know you're visiting with a friend, not just renting a property.

We cannot wait to find another time to go back!

Peaceful and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at Marshmere! This quaint family vacation home is a quiet oasis that allows you to leave the noisy crowds behind and relax. The layout of the house is ideal for a big family or a group of good friends. There are lots of rooms and beds. We had a group of ten and it never felt crowded. We had ample room to park 5 vehicles and a boat trailer. Meals around the long dining room table were fun and relaxing.

We brought our boat and took daily rides around the inlet, and tied up at Drunken Jack's for lunch. The dock is brand new post-hurricane Matthew and very well built. Even without a boat, fishing from the dock was excellent. I think we spent more time on the dock than we did indoors, fishing, chatting, kayaking and sunning. And we caught some beautiful fish!

In between the house and dock, the back yard is quiet and spacious, offering lots of shade, cool breezes and a stunning view of the marsh. You could spend a whole morning just watching the wildlife. Coffee on the back porch was our daily routine.

The location may be the best feature of all. We were within easy walking distance of numerous good restaurants and shops. Bigger grocery stores are just a short drive away. The public boat landing is literally a stone's throw away, which is very convenient.

Everyone in our group has said that they want to stay here again. I look forward to our next trip!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Tim, and we're glad you appreciated the special benefits of Marshmere. You feel about this creek house much the same as we, the owners, do. Those who want the high rises and traffic at the beach should head to Myrtle Beach. If you want serenity and nature, Marshmere is hard to beat. Come back when you can.
