'Casa Turtle Cove' is a beautiful adobe style 3,500 square ft. house with enchanting views of the turquoise sea and the rolling mountains of Los Barriles. 3 miles north of town, it is the perfect get-away from the hustle and bustle of the States.
A 4 minute walk down a magical, meandering arroyo path brings you to Turtle Cove Beach, with great snorkeling reefs, kayaking, wind-surfing, kite boarding and fishing.
The house offers dramatic high ceilings and arched windows and a boveda. Smooth Saltillo tiles add Mexican charm and beauty.
Upstairs features a spacious master suite with stunning ocean views. There is also a beautiful outdoor terrace, 2 additional bedrooms, full bath, gourmet kitchen, and welcoming living room.
Downstairs is another large master suite with full bath and outdoor terrace.
The two outdoor terraces offer beautiful views of the Sea of Cortez and garden and provide a great place for meals, basking in the sun, or just reading a book.
The cobblestone outdoor shower built for 2 is a wonderful luxury after spending the day at the beach.
Since we are located in the banana belt, the winter temperatures are considerably warmer than in other parts of Los Barriles.
Share our recreational 'toys': 3 mountain bikes, and 2 kayaks. One kayak is set up for fishing, and the other is good for touring or wave riding. These goodies are all free!
Also included at no cost is a four-wheel-drive pickup that can be used around town. You will still need a rental car to get from the airport, and for out-of-town adventures, but having 2 vehicles provides flexibility.
Windsurfers, kite boarders, standup paddle boarders, surfers and scuba divers: lessons and rental equipment are available nearby.
Since we have been coming here for the last 20 years, we can direct you to our favorite beaches, mountain bike trails, fishing holes, snorkeling reefs, kayaking trips, private surf breaks, restaurants, and other secret spots. We love helping our guests have a great vacation!
Kite boarders: our house overlooks Turtle Cove, one of the least crowded kite boarding launches. This beach provides one of the few wave breaks in the area. Another popular kite boarding spot, North Beach is located 5 minutes south.
Turtle Cove also features the best snorkeling reef in Los Barriles. You will see hundreds of tropical fish just a few yards from shore.
Kayakers, our secluded beach gives you a perfect starting point for your ocean adventures. Imagine beginning your day paddling among hundreds of beautiful Manta rays. Whale and dolphin sightings are also common and can provide kayakers with the thrill of a lifetime.
Fishermen! We know who the good skippers are, and can get you a discount on boats. Excellent guide service is available for fly and surf casting fishermen.
Casa Turtle Cove is close to some of the best beach fishing in the area. Watch for the pelicans, grab your rod, and go catch some Roosterfish, Sierra, Pargo, and Jack Crevalles.
If you would like to rent an ATV, we can recommend the best rental agency. For getting around town, and exploring, an ATV is all you really need. It's also just a lot of fun! One of our favorite adventures is an ATV trip to the waterfalls. Pack a picnic lunch and swim in the secluded pool, surrounded by beautiful rock formations. Most of the time you'll have the whole place to yourself.
If you're a fishermen, an ATV gives you a huge advantage in chasing down those rooster fish. Racing down the beach in pursuit of feeding game fish is an adrenaline producing experience!
You are welcome to help yourself to our bountiful fruit trees. Imagine fresh grapefruits, oranges, limes, papayas, and mangoes right outside your front door.
If you need more space for family and friends, our guest house next door is also available for rent, and will sleep 2.
If you would like some genuine Mexican meals prepared at your house, just let us know, and we can set it up.
If your family includes an infant, we can provide a crib, just let us know in advance.
Casa Turtle Cove features high-speed Wi-Fi.

We are a family of three (not including our pets!) We moved to Los Barriles from San Francisco when our daughter was 5 months old. We thought we would stay just 6 months, but doors kept opening, and we ended up building our house, working, and sending our daughter to school there. We now have more friends and connections in Los Barriles than in the States. We are currently living in Northern California because our daughter wanted to attend High School in the States. Now, we spend vacations only in Los Barriles. (At least for the next four years).
John or Camilla Ford purchased this house in 2007
After renting for five years in Los Barriles, we decided to build a home. We loved the locations: the beautiful, winding arroyo leading to the sea, the proximity to the sea, yet protection from the wind, amazing view, and kind, peaceful neighbors. We had been visiting LB for vacations and for wind-surfing. It became a favorite of ours because how far away it seems, yet how easy it is to travel there. Plus, it has all the beauty and peace of other exotic places, but also all the conveniences.
John built the house so that each room would have a view. He wanted high ceilings so people could enjoy the space. The first trees we planted were fruit trees: mango, orange, lime, banana, and mandarin. The thing that made us fall in love with the place was the arroyo which we use as a path to the sea. We swim at least twice a day, so the path is well worn. We love to share our home with people.
What a lovely home. 2 large suites. Well equipped kitchen. Easy 1 hour access from Cabo San Lucas. Safe, friendly, quiet city. Great food. You can be as busy or as laid back as you like!
This house is perfect for a little getaway from the real world.
It sits elevated and has perfect ocean views and views towards
the center of Los Barriles.
We enjoyed our stay here a lot, very relaxing.
Everything in the house is in working order, very relaxed
and easy set-up.
John, the owner is very quick in responding and makes your stay
very easy to set up.
We would definitely come back.
I came with my three children and felt relaxed, invigorated, and rejuvenated after our stay. On the way back on the plane, we were looking at travelogues that the airport provides. In it, there were pictures of perfect people snorkeling, eating fresh fish, hiking, and moto-ing. My son laughed and said, "our trip was even better than that!" I wholeheartedly agree. First off, the snorkeling is amazing--a virtual museum of exotic fish---schools of silver fish, bright florescent blue ones, angel fish, yellow fish, pucker fish and many other ones that you will probably will discover yourself. There's a buoy about half a mile away to swim to and from in heavenly salubrious water. After swimming, we took outdoor showers and gazed out at the view which is just as beautiful as the pictures here show.
The house itself is a functional masterpiece that fits unobtrusively in the landscape. There are high-ceilings, inlaid boulders, scenic views from every room, spacious beds, fruit trees and balmy air. This place has all luxurious amenities while still feeling a bit adventurous. This is Mexico and you get to the house on a charming dusty road that’s about a mile from town. In town, we ate fresh, fresh, fresh fish tacos! (I always ordered 3). We bought tortillas from the authentic tortilleria where we waited in line with the locals. There’s a grocery store that has every single item you will need if you cook home or forget any items. Truly a paradise--better than any travelogue brochure. We are going back.
Easily our favorite vacation rental to date. The house looks great in the photos, but when we first saw it in person, we were stunned by its size and casual elegance. On the advice of a friend, we woke up early the first morning to catch the sunrise over the Sea of Cortez. So good we made a routine of coffee at dawn every day for the rest of our trip.
The beach is a short walk down from the house. It’s a bit rocky north of town where the house is located, but beautiful for swimming and paddling. We spent many hours snorkeling over the incredible coral reef, which is very easily reached from shore. Whenever we wanted a taste of the perfect-white-sandy-beach experience, we just hopped in the truck and drove south to the beach in town or north toward Punta Pescadero. Bouncing along a desert road in the back of a 4x4 pickup and driving right out onto a pristine sandy beach was a real highlight for our city-girl teenagers, who had never done anything like it. What amazed us the most about the beaches around Los Barriles was how often we had them entirely to ourselves.
As far as excursions go, a snorkel tour in Cabo Pulmo took our breath away, as did the Sol de Mayo waterfall outside Santiago. The drive up to Punta Pescadero was well worth it and exploring the arroyo on quads is not to be missed. The kayaks and the mountain bikes that came with the house were great to have and the truck was a huge bonus.
Los Barriles offered lots of great dining options, but the real standout was the parking lot taco-and-potato stand next door to La Casita restaurant. Do yourself a favor and stop by with some cold beers or a bottle of wine on a Friday or Saturday evening. The casual BYOB atmosphere and truly excellent food made for an unforgettable night out.
John, the owner of the house, was an absolute joy to deal with. He responded to every one of my emails and phone calls promptly and cheerfully. He and his family lived in Los Barriles for many years, so he was a great source of local knowledge. Any time we mentioned his name in town people knew and liked him. Teresa and Francisco, the local husband-and-wife team who look after the place were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We enjoyed many conversations with Teresa about her family and all the animals she so clearly loves. They all made us feel very welcome.
I really can’t recommend Casa Turtle Cove highly enough. The web site says the most I can give is five stars, so that’ll have to do.
I've spent 5 magical winter holidays in this unbelievably beautiful home. It's peaceful, quiet, simple, and elegant. The views of the Sea of Cortez are unparalleled. From here, you can walk to snorkel in fish-filled waters. A quick drive into town and you'll find great fish tacos, coffee shops, and beaches. There are also lovely hikes in the area. Did I mention the sky full of stars at night? The full moons that rise over the water? The beauty of the garden? This is a very, very special place. Do NOT miss it!
This is a wonderful family vacation house. That means "Grandma". I am 78 years old, and enjoy the beauty of the interior of the house, with tiled floors, beautiful stone work, and arched windows looking out on the Sea of Cortez. My bedroom was downstairs. It has its own bathroom and terrace, and looks out on the lush garden , filled with grapefruit and mango trees, and awnings of bougainvilla. Very meditative. I can walk down to the beach along a dirt path, and with my wading shoes, step carefully over the small rocks, and into the amazing water. There is a small reef to the left of the beach entrance, excellent for snorkling. Best time is before noon, when the sea is smooth. I have walked down the beach halfway to town, and walked the entire way home from town with my family along the road, passing goats and vacas on the way. Then it's time for a nap. I recommend this house for its comfort and beauty and ambiance. It is like a 4-Star hotel on the outskirts of a small, lively fishing and wind-surfing town. .
