Kayaks, eagles, seals all with a private beach and cottage on the Ocean!

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms (one a loft), 1 Bath, 5 double beds plus double futon

Secluded, oceanfront cottage on Cobscook Bay with spectacular views on ten wooded acres. Large skipping stone beach, ideal for ocean kayaking. Abundant animal wildlife, huge Bay of Fundy influenced tides (20 plus feet), great stone fireplace, and large kitchen woodstove. Third bedroom is loft with three double beds and a double futon. Outdoor porch, great for relaxing and viewing nature at its best. (We often see bald eagles and seals). Public boat access ramp within one-quarter mile of the cottage.

We often alternate between relaxing days at the cottage and easy day trips to Eastport, Maine (the easternmost City in the United States), Saint Andrews, Canada (a beautiful coastal town reminiscent of Bar Harbor, Maine 40 years ago, with an excellent Golf Course - St Andrews by the Sea) and Campobello Island, Canada (see link below) - summer home of Franklin Roosevelt, great beaches and bike trails, excellent Golf course - Herring Cove. Deep sea fishing and whale watching tours out of Eastport with Eastport Windjammers

Subject: re: a week at the Sheehan/Collins cottage

Hi -

This is a belated note just to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at the cottage. I guess that the temperatures down in our area (the North Shore of Massachusetts) were in the high 90's all week that week,

but we were blissfully unaware as we had no radio, newspapers, or other contact with the "outside world", and we were more than adequately cooled by the breezes off of Cobscook Bay.

Since our greyhound was recovering from her chemo, we took only short excursions, but we very much enjoyed hiking around the new state park in Eastport, going for a schooner sail, kayaking with a curious seal, doing some fishing, and visiting the crafts booths at the Machias Blueberry Festival. Mostly, we did puzzles, family games, and TONS of reading and eating!

We would indeed be interested in renting the cottage again next year, most likely for the same week if it becomes available. Perhaps you could let us know.

Thanks again - Amy

The Oceanfront Cottage is the classic Maine saltwater camp surrounded by 10 wooded acres. There aren't very many left along the coastline like this cottage. Get your vacation on the oceanfront in Down East Maine & only see wildlife if you choose! Maybe a boat or two, but there are enough towns within a few miles to experience more of Down East Maine!

Most relaxing vacation!

This place was incredible! The view has to be seen to be believed. Loved the smell of the ocean air, too. Plenty of room, beautiful, quaint cottage with plenty to read. The owners didn't forget a thing. Everything we needed. The private beach is awesome. Loved the kayaks. My 13 yr old loved climbing the rock formations and so did my dog. Great place to paint the scenery. Fully equipped kitchen, grill really came in handy. Plenty of hot water in the shower. Even a little hummingbird feeder where a fat little hummingbird came to visit. Lots of wildlife to view, too. I loved sitting on the deck for my morning coffee. Lots of things to do in the area for little day trips. The travel guides in the cabin were handy for info regarding that. I think it was the best week of my dog's life. Very easy to book, painless. I'm sure I will go again.

A great getaway!

  • 4 of 5

My family and I were looking to travel somewhere different to get away from all the modern technology we have become obsessed with using daily. This was just perfect. The views of the bay were to die for! There were so many seals and my German short haired pointer loved every moment of it. The house was just as described and so comfortable. The drive in to Eastport was very scenic and the people were all so friendly. We went to Rays Mustard House, the wildlife preserve, and just all around the area. The water was if course very cold but we didn't let that stop us from enjoying it. We definitely would recommend this place.

This place is out of a dream!

  • 5 of 5

The setting: you hope places like this still exist, but you doubt they really do (that goes for the home, the setting, AND the area of Eastport, Maine).

Think of a place that is down a gravel driveway, nestled in gorgeous woods, looking out over water and interesting rocks from its high perch -- You cannot see other neighbors. You walk down steps to a GORGEOUS private beack/cove, that is "made" of smooth little black rocks that warm up in the sun -- perfect for basking on, on a cool Maine day (when places further south are dreadfully hot and humid!)

The setting alone makes this place special, but then you walk in to the cottage! What old-style charm. The pictures do not even do it justice. It has everything you need, and nothing you DON'T -- no phone, tv, internet -- what a chance for a family to get away from distractions and just enjoy each other, and the outdoors! For my 7 and 9 year old (and us parents!), it was like an adventure going back in time to the 1910s.

We visited during the summer, mid-July, but the evenings were actually cool enough to have a cozy fire in the cobble-fireplace, and use the convenient-but-modernly efficient gas stove for a little heat!

We were 2 families, with a total of 3 kids (7-13). The kids shared the attic "loft" -- it was perfect. The 2 bedrooms were great for 2 adult couples. We worried about sharing 1 bath, but it was fine!

The 2 kayaks were so wondeful. We used them every day, and tried to get close to the rock "Seal Island" without scaring the seals into the water!

You will not want to leave the cottage/beach, but when you do go out, there is PLENTY to see in the towns nearby. There is a grocery and laundromat in Eastport, and a great bakery with wifi.

Peace & Beauty

  • 5 of 5

This is the 5th or 6th time we have returned to Tom's cottage overlooking Cobscook Bay and if it wasn't an 8 hour drive; we'd probably come every year. It is beautiful, quiet, and there is the freshest sea food readily available. Thie time we took 6 pounds of Betty's delicious crab meat home to freeze! We also made it up to Canada and out to Campobello for easy, entertaining day trips. The kayaking was relaxing and we really appreciated the new porch rockers and the table for dining on the patio - nice additions! All in all we had a wonderful, restful, vacation and we plan to return some day.

Relaxing vacation spot.

  • 4 of 5

How pleasant it was to be in such a remote location. The lack of noise rejuvenated my senses. What a wonderful time we had enjoying the private beach. We saw a member of the eagle family fly by the cottage every day. The curious seals followed my kayak around the cove, peeking at me and splashing as I took in the natural beauty that surrounded me. The rustic cabin kept us warm and dry on the cool nights and when the morning fog consumed the cove. We enjoyed a lobster from Betty's Crab Shack, had spectacular fried clams at the Happy Crab in Eastport and the best seafood chowder while at the Eastport Chowder House and filling station. Our trip to the quaint town of Saint Andrews, in New Brunswick, reminded us of Kennebunkport, ME. Charming.

P.S. Our dog Katie had fun exploring the woods too.

My wife and I had the vacation of a lifetime at this wonderful camp right on Cobscook Bay. The house is perfect, with views from every window, magnificent fireplace, and the atmosphere of the way camps in Maine should be. Free from the distractions of contemporary living, you have the chance to really relax and begin to experience the abundance of nature that lives in this bay. The 2 sea kayaks are a big plus, as well as the seals, the eagles, the hummingbird, etc. We can’t wait to return to this slice of paradise.

The Oceanfront Cottage in Pembroke is definitely a one of a kind vacation Maine saltwater camp experience. The closeness to the water isn't even possible in new construction any more! This camp is an amazing stop in time with it's black cast iron stove in the kitchen, and it's mix matched furniture. There are 2 kayaks available for guests to take a spin out to a large rocky island where the seals sun themselves daily!
