The main level features a gourmet kitchen, over-sized great room with a fireplace, and the master bed (queen) and bath with an internal bed loft (twin). The upstairs is home to a multi-story loft with a queen-sized bed and a secondary room with a set of bunk beds (twins). Lastly, the lower level includes a secluded king room, laundry facilities, and pool room. The master bedroom, main-floor great room, upstairs loft, and downstairs gathering area have their own porch/balcony area.

If it's a hike you're looking for, enjoy the property's five miles of private hiking trails with ample room for camping opportunities. Pack a lunch or a full pack for an overnight stay. Either way, be sure to bring along your camera to snap a shot of the abundant wildlife, waterfalls, streams, and various mountain views.

About Chelsea Sanz

Since 1986 our family has been escaping to the mountains of Robbinsville, North Carolina to reconnect with nature, explore, and of course create lifelong memories with our family. We have hiked every trail, taught our two boys to fish here, and shared endless gatherings with family and friends. Every season offers an exciting new set of adventures and scenery. The winter snow, spring wild flowers, summer trout, and fall leaves are just the beginning of what you can expect to find. We invite you to come create memories, share new adventures, and take in the sights and sounds of this nature escape.

Chelsea Sanz purchased this cabin in 1986

Why Chelsea Sanz chose Smoky Mountains

After vacationing here as a child, we knew this was an experience we wanted to share with our children. Over the years, we searched for the perfect mountain home only to create our own private escape of several residences. Today we own four mountain homes in Robbinsville and look forward to sharing them with you, your family, and friends.

What makes this cabin unique

When you arrive at the Chestnut Lodge on Huffman Creek, it may take you a few minutes to unwind. Grab your favorite book - or e-reader - head to the porch, hammock, or stream, and prepare for a trip of pure relaxation. Our favorite thing to do is prepare a 'breakfast extravaganza' each morning for the few early risers in the bunch. Prepare a pile of pancakes for those morning lovers and let the rest stay snuggled in bed. Best of all, by the time those morning lovers wrap up, the rest of us are about ready for a day of hiking, exploring, and sometimes napping. It's just the right size home to offer a good combination of gathering spaces and privacy.

If you are wound up TIGHT from city life, you need to check this place out .

When we arrived on the property , we were delighted and we said to each other that this place is perfect.

This place is very special and has my kids asking when could we go back. Words cannot describe how perfect this place is , from waking up in the morning and having breakfast and coffee on the upper deck with the sound of the creek in the background to having smores and BBQ in the evening as night falls, then relaxing in the hot tub while watching the fireflies at night.

I kept on pinching myself every day.

You will love this place!

Family Reunion.

  • 5 of 5

We look for a new place every year in North Carolina for a summer get together with the famiily. Every summer this has become more popular and more relatives want to join in with us. This year has been the best for the wide variety of distractions each two or three wanted to do. This was the perfect place and the hosts, especially, were quick to accomodate any of our needs. I would call BJ for more wood and before I could hang up he was there stacking it. Thank you BJ. My son brought his motorcycle from Dallas with him to ride the "Dragon's Tai.l" He kept finding more places he wanted to go but gas was far away and he likes to go at a moments notice. We requested a 5 gallon gas can and In under 30 min. it was sitting next to my son's motorcycle.

It was this kind of special attention that made our vaca so enjoyable and to want for nothing. We found a wasp's nest nearby and with small children worried. In 30 min. It was taken care of by BJ. This man is worth his weight in gold.

There was a huge play yard which saw many hours of softball, and squirt-gun battles. The gentle stream was a constant reminder to relax. the stream. To wake up to it't murmmering and to sit on the porch in the evening and sip wine was so comforting after this past stressful and hectic year of our lives. May I also mention the kitchen. We had all our women and me trying to figure out how to dismantle it and take it home. We all were in love with it. One of the features of the stove we expecially appreciated was the lock button, All our kids could reach the controls but the lock-out was a greate comfort.

If I had to add anything I would change I would put spray-paint dots on the trees better marking the trails to different places. We would hike for long periods of time not knowing if we were on the right trail. There are adequate markings at the beginning of the trails and Key turn-offs but we would end up wandering off on a trail that would end up a dead end. Not that it wasn't great exercize but woulld have liked to have seen the items we headed out for but missed.

Barring our summer group getting bigger we would definetly go back again. It was ideal for all we wanted and more than we expected. Thank you for making out time away from everyday stressors a great relief. You should note that all the pictures we put on line and sent out have generated a lot of interest. Ten-*'s from us. Thank you again. David and Debbie Hicks, Tampa, FL.

Peace and Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

We loved this vacation. The cabin and surrounding yard are beautiful. I was a little depressed to go home. Secluded, with a rushing creek running through the property - so peaceful. There are other cabins near, but you can hardly see them. The few items that I could complain about are not worth complaining about. We loved it.

Remote and delightful

  • 5 of 5

If you want to be off the beaten track on some of the prettiest landscapes to be found, this is your spot. We took our 2 daughters, 2 friends, and our Brazilian exchange student (ages 11-16) for a four night stay. They were not allowed to have electronics, and they had a blast! We brought board games, outdoor games, and hiking clothes/shoes. We only left the property once, as it was a perfect place for kids to explore and play while my husband and I relaxed and watched the kids.

There are trails on site, but they are not blazed and are not laid out in the traditional format (i.e. there are no switchbacks). The trails are a nice outing for an afternoon, but be ready to raise your heart rate and make a few guesses as you go. We hiked to the tree house, then made an attempt to find Seven Springs falls. I don't know if we ever found Seven Springs, but we did have a lovely picnic by the creek. Our crew is pretty laid back, so we just rolled with it.

The fire pit was awesome! The kids played lots of campfire games (Riff-off, two truths and a lie, etc) and we laughed until our sides hurt. Don't miss the chance to hang out by the fire!

The kitchen was stocked with pots and pans and some utensils, but if you HAVE to have something for a meal, you should probably bring it with you. I wish I had brought a wisk, Tupperware for leftovers, a big cutting board, and a really sharp knife. We made do just fine, though, and I enjoyed having a nice kitchen to prepare meals in. The closest convenience store is about 20 min away, so bring what you need with you. A full grocery story is 30 min away in Robbinsville. BJ was nearby to help with firewood and other needs. He was great!

The large dining room table was perfect for group dinners, but we also played games there every day. It was perfect! We did puzzles, played spoons, and did board games. The pool table in the basement was also a lot of fun for the kids. In four days, not one person every came to me and said, "I bored." Mission accomplished!

We did take one trip away from the property. My husband took the older kids to zipline at Ridge Runners. It was expensive, but they kids had a great time and my husband said the owners and staff were really nice. I took the little girls to go horseback riding at Lonesome Dove. It was BY FAR the best horseback riding I've done in the States. The staff was so friendly, the horses were well cared for and easy to ride, and the trail up the mountain was gorgeous.

Secret hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We are so in awe of this place. It is absolutely stunning and peaceful. Our family goes to the mountains every year, and every year we end up at a different cabin in the hopes that we find "the one" to always return to. Well, I am happy to say our search is over. It was perfect for a family of 7, plenty of relaxation, big yard to play games and lots of things for the kids to explore. We stayed put all weekend and hiked up the trails, which were not easy especially on the way down, but my 8 and 10 year olds did great. We cannot wait to go back next year.

Robbinsville, North Carolina is located in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountain Region of the southern Appalachian mountains. Known for it's diverse species of flora and fauna, the region is home to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Slickrock Creek Wilderness Area, Natahala National Forest, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

From Huffman Creek, you're only moments to the secluded waters of Lake Santeelah. The lake boasts almost an entirely undeveloped shoreline with 75% being home to National Forest. With a restricted number of residence, the quiet lake is ideal for boating, fishing, swimming, and any of your favorite water sports. Boat and jet ski rentals are available throughout the spring and summer seasons.

Take a short drive to Highway 129 and take on the adventure of driving the 'Tail of the Dragon.' The world renowned road is a challenge even for the greatest road warriors with 318 curves in just 11 miles. Continue on your journey and loop back around to Huffman Creek on the Cherohala Skyway which winds through mountaintop ridges of the Cherokee National Forrest. These views are certainly something to write home about. Be sure to bring your camera!

For the history buffs, you're just a short drive to Cherokee, North Carolina, home to the eastern Band of the Cherokee Tribe. Try your luck at Harrah's Cherokee Casino or visit one of the many restaurants, shops, and museums.

Embrace your inner adventurer and head down the Nantahala river. Featuring a combination of Class II and III rapids, there is something for the novice and full-on adrenaline junkie. Be sure to contact one of the multiple rafting companies in Bryson City to schedule your full day of adventure. Between white water rafting, ziplining, mountain biking, and horse back riding, you'll be ready to relax when you arrive back at Huffman Creek.

Enjoy the quieter side of your stay just steps outside of your door. Take a nap by the private river while you enjoy friends and family fishing for trout.

There is certainly nothing more therapeutic than curling up in your cabin during the occasional afternoon rain or warming up by your private fire and enjoying the modern convenience of a twilight movie.

Head down to the fire pit for an evening of stories, laughs, good eats, and of course, smores.

Huffman Creek's private residence offers an abundance of opportunity for the culinary enthusiast to prepare a quick picnic to take along for the day's hike or a full feast to celebrate a day of outdoor fun and relaxation.

Take a trip down a few winding gravel roads for an escape from the complexities of the daily grind and an opportunity to reconnect with nature. A trip to the Chestnut Lodge at Huffman Creek will revitalize the senses and relax the soul.
