About Chelsea Sanz

Since 1986 our family has been escaping to the mountains of Robbinsville, North Carolina to reconnect with nature, explore, and of course create lifelong memories with our family. We have hiked every trail, taught our two boys to fish here, and shared endless gatherings with family and friends. Every season offers an exciting new set of adventures and scenery. The winter snow, spring wild flowers, summer trout, and fall leaves are just the beginning of what you can expect to find. We invite you to come create memories, share new adventures, and take in the sights and sounds of this nature escape.

Chelsea Sanz purchased this cabin in 1986

Why Chelsea Sanz chose Smoky Mountains

After vacationing here as a child, we knew this was an experience we wanted to share with our children. Over the years, we searched for the perfect mountain home only to create our own private escape of several residences. Today we own four mountain homes in Robbinsville and look forward to sharing them with you, your family, and friends.

What makes this cabin unique

When you arrive at the Chestnut Lodge on Huffman Creek, it may take you a few minutes to unwind. Grab your favorite book - or e-reader - head to the porch, hammock, or stream, and prepare for a trip of pure relaxation. Our favorite thing to do is prepare a 'breakfast extravaganza' each morning for the few early risers in the bunch. Prepare a pile of pancakes for those morning lovers and let the rest stay snuggled in bed. Best of all, by the time those morning lovers wrap up, the rest of us are about ready for a day of hiking, exploring, and sometimes napping. It's just the right size home to offer a good combination of gathering spaces and privacy.

It is known that Verizon wireless operates on property. Robbinsville is located in a dry county. Gorgeous mountain refuge

  • 5 of 5

The setting alone gets it 5 stars. It is unusual to find a mountain place that has a big beautiful creek right by it, a nice flat yard, miles of trails, and is quiet and secluded. There are other houses on the property, but they're far enough away that you don't notice them. I don't know how much property they have at Huffman Retreat, but I imagine over 100 acres.

The house is very comfortable and recently updated. The pool table and hot tub were well-used by us. We dunked in the cold creek and enjoyed exploring all the flora and fauna around it. The kitchen had everything we needed (of course we brought our own food).

The enclosed back deck is a perfect place to eat and also to put our dirty dogs after they got wet and muddy in the creek.

We barely left the property for 4 days and didn't feel a need to. Some of us did go to the Nantahala Outdoor Center for rafting, zipline and ropes course. On our way out we stopped to hike at the Joyce Kilmer old growth forest.

Incredible, peaceful home that will make you want to disconnect and relax with your family!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived, we knew we had chosen the right vacation spot for our family and friends. Not only was BJ and Chelsea super easy to work with and extremely accommodating, the seclusion of this property was truly a blessing, and our six kids were never lacking for entertainment. Even with the downstairs pool table, games, and hot tub, they wanted to be outside enjoying the gorgeous, large backyard that is home to a tranquil running stream, an impressive waterfall, and the quaint hammock among the trees. If your desire is to disconnect from a busy life and connect with your family and friends, this is the place to be! The pictures do not do justice to the size and personal detail the house offers. From the extremely comfortable beds, to the well-stocked kitchen, this home is laid out beautifully, and comfortably supported two families of five over Memorial Day weekend. We enjoyed several trail runs up the mountain and fishing just a few miles down the road. We savored four evening dinners over the large, open fire outside, and relaxed in the hot tub every night after the kids were in bed. This little piece of earth is truly heaven. I have never once returned home from a vacation where I felt more rested and refreshed. We will absolutely be back!

If you are wound up TIGHT from city life, you need to check this place out .

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived on the property , we were delighted and we said to each other that this place is perfect.

This place is very special and has my kids asking when could we go back. Words cannot describe how perfect this place is , from waking up in the morning and having breakfast and coffee on the upper deck with the sound of the creek in the background to having smores and BBQ in the evening as night falls, then relaxing in the hot tub while watching the fireflies at night.

I kept on pinching myself every day.

You will love this place!

Family Reunion.

  • 5 of 5

We look for a new place every year in North Carolina for a summer get together with the famiily. Every summer this has become more popular and more relatives want to join in with us. This year has been the best for the wide variety of distractions each two or three wanted to do. This was the perfect place and the hosts, especially, were quick to accomodate any of our needs. I would call BJ for more wood and before I could hang up he was there stacking it. Thank you BJ. My son brought his motorcycle from Dallas with him to ride the "Dragon's Tai.l" He kept finding more places he wanted to go but gas was far away and he likes to go at a moments notice. We requested a 5 gallon gas can and In under 30 min. it was sitting next to my son's motorcycle.

It was this kind of special attention that made our vaca so enjoyable and to want for nothing. We found a wasp's nest nearby and with small children worried. In 30 min. It was taken care of by BJ. This man is worth his weight in gold.

There was a huge play yard which saw many hours of softball, and squirt-gun battles. The gentle stream was a constant reminder to relax. the stream. To wake up to it't murmmering and to sit on the porch in the evening and sip wine was so comforting after this past stressful and hectic year of our lives. May I also mention the kitchen. We had all our women and me trying to figure out how to dismantle it and take it home. We all were in love with it. One of the features of the stove we expecially appreciated was the lock button, All our kids could reach the controls but the lock-out was a greate comfort.

If I had to add anything I would change I would put spray-paint dots on the trees better marking the trails to different places. We would hike for long periods of time not knowing if we were on the right trail. There are adequate markings at the beginning of the trails and Key turn-offs but we would end up wandering off on a trail that would end up a dead end. Not that it wasn't great exercize but woulld have liked to have seen the items we headed out for but missed.

Barring our summer group getting bigger we would definetly go back again. It was ideal for all we wanted and more than we expected. Thank you for making out time away from everyday stressors a great relief. You should note that all the pictures we put on line and sent out have generated a lot of interest. Ten-*'s from us. Thank you again. David and Debbie Hicks, Tampa, FL.

Robbinsville, North Carolina is located in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountain Region of the southern Appalachian mountains. Known for it's diverse species of flora and fauna, the region is home to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Slickrock Creek Wilderness Area, Natahala National Forest, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

From Huffman Creek, you're only moments to the secluded waters of Lake Santeelah. The lake boasts almost an entirely undeveloped shoreline with 75% being home to National Forest. With a restricted number of residence, the quiet lake is ideal for boating, fishing, swimming, and any of your favorite water sports. Boat and jet ski rentals are available throughout the spring and summer seasons.

Take a short drive to Highway 129 and take on the adventure of driving the 'Tail of the Dragon.' The world renowned road is a challenge even for the greatest road warriors with 318 curves in just 11 miles. Continue on your journey and loop back around to Huffman Creek on the Cherohala Skyway which winds through mountaintop ridges of the Cherokee National Forrest. These views are certainly something to write home about. Be sure to bring your camera!

For the history buffs, you're just a short drive to Cherokee, North Carolina, home to the eastern Band of the Cherokee Tribe. Try your luck at Harrah's Cherokee Casino or visit one of the many restaurants, shops, and museums.

Embrace your inner adventurer and head down the Nantahala river. Featuring a combination of Class II and III rapids, there is something for the novice and full-on adrenaline junkie. Be sure to contact one of the multiple rafting companies in Bryson City to schedule your full day of adventure. Between white water rafting, ziplining, mountain biking, and horse back riding, you'll be ready to relax when you arrive back at Huffman Creek.

Enjoy the quieter side of your stay just steps outside of your door. Take a nap by the private river while you enjoy friends and family fishing for trout.

There is certainly nothing more therapeutic than curling up in your cabin during the occasional afternoon rain or warming up by your private fire and enjoying the modern convenience of a twilight movie.

Head down to the fire pit for an evening of stories, laughs, good eats, and of course, smores.

Huffman Creek's private residence offers an abundance of opportunity for the culinary enthusiast to prepare a quick picnic to take along for the day's hike or a full feast to celebrate a day of outdoor fun and relaxation.

Take a trip down a few winding gravel roads for an escape from the complexities of the daily grind and an opportunity to reconnect with nature. A trip to the Chestnut Lodge at Huffman Creek will revitalize the senses and relax the soul.
