Come, Enjoy Cozumel with us!
We've been to Cozumel about 15 times; always staying in our own time share. This year we decided to try the Reef residencias. This unit is a jackpot! Yes, it's in the furthest out building, but it has an elevator and great views and there is no bad buildings here! It's right next to the first heated pool and about 100 yards from the ocean. We saw an iguana in the tree eating flowers one day The kitchen is fully stocked with all the pots, pans and cooking utensils you will need to chef up gourmet meals if you so choose. It comes with a third floor open area that is wonderful for lunch or star gazing. There is also a washer and dryer on the third floor that were a big help with our wet gear prior to leaving. The bedrooms are spacious and both rooms are pretty equal so it's easy to share with both couples feeling like they have a good room. The porch is spacious and a great place to enjoy your morning cuppa. We will definitely consider coming back!
My family & I LOVED Casa Gonzalez. We were traveling with a 15 month old so we wanted a condo with plenty of space & spacious bedrooms. This condo was PERFECT! Great view of the beach, ocean & two beautiful pools of the Residencias Reef. The Enjoy Cozumel contacts were very responsive to any of our needs. Would highly recommend!
The staff & condo were great!!! Highly recommend having Veronica cook a meal for you it was excellent! Any issues were addressed immediately. Only disappointment was that we had to leave early at 11:00am on departure date because they took an incoming rental for the day we were leaving.
Our family (2 + 2 kids) just stayed at Casa Gonzales for 10 days, and had a fantastic trip. We go to Cozumel twice a year and it was the first time for us to stay on this part of the island. We didn't realize how roomy the place would be and we had an incredible view from the rooms and decks of the Residencias Reef pools and beach. The unit is wonderfully furnished and has great appliances, cookware, etc - all that we needed for our stay. Residencias Reef is a short walk to Carlos & Charlies and Paradise Beach which was great option for lunch, and a reasonable drive to downtown for dinners and shopping. A nice benefit too was being able to have our dive company's boat pick us up right at the pier right next to the property. I would highly recommend Casa Gonzales for a Cozumel vacation.
Casa Gonzales Cozumel was a perfect fit for our young family, from the comfortable and specious rooms to a well equipped kitchen and the best views we could ever have asked for. The tranquility of the area surrounding Residencias Reef was a pleasant surprise, but the island buzz was just around the corner. We truly feel lucky to have found this gem, but the great experience we had was partially due to all the services, support and suggestion provided by the Enjoy Cozumel team, who helped us take full advantage of all that Cozumel has to offer, thank you! We wouldn’t change a thing about this trip, and look forward to our next visit.
Cozumel is Mexico's largest island. It is 28 miles long by 9 miles wide and resides on the east side of Mexico in the Yucatan Peninsula. It is separated from the mainland by 12 miles of clear blue tropical ocean. You can get here by plane or ferry, or you can simply hop on one of the many cruise ships that frequent the island daily (though you'll only spend one day here if you choose the latter, and that would simply be a shame!).
Cozumel has an incredibly rich history. The Maya first settled the island over 2000 years ago, the Spanish put the island on the world map with their conquest of the Yucatan Peninsula in the 1500s, and Jacques Cousteau launched it into the stratosphere in the 1960s by describing to the world the richness of the underwater life in the coral reef surrounding the island.
Present day Cozumel is a mix of tourism brought to the island by the building of a cruise ship terminal in the early 1970s, the divers that continue to come to the island to frequent the reef system, the handful of foreigners who came to the island to open businesses (including us!), and of course the local residents who, as you will find out if you come, are the most wonderful, hospitable people in the Caribbean!
The island currently inhabits about 95,000 full-time residents, most of whom live in and around the main town of San Miguel.
The Cozumel Ironman is a new event for the island; it started in 2009. It's been a pretty huge deal for the island since it attracts nearly 2500 athletes and is only one of 24 Ironman qualifying races in the world. 2009 and 2010 went off without a hitch and so we're really looking forward to the event in 2013. It's fantastic to have so many dedicated athletes come to the island and enjoy it's beauty in a completely different way from the rest of us. After all, we don't typically get up at 7am and go for a 2.4 mile swim!
For the last three years, we had a number of athletes stay with us. Many stayed at two resorts in which we manage a number of condos and villas: Residencias Reef and Costa del Sol. Both places are really convenient for race participants and their families/friends: 1) they're right on the water 2) they're right on the bike/marathon course 3) most importantly, they're 10-15 min away from Chankanaab, the start of the race. So you get to stay in a beautiful comfortable place, away from the crowds that are staying at the big race-sponsored resorts, and still have the opportunity to jump in the water to practice, cruise the bike route, or check out the start beforehand.
Ruins of Cozumel
Perhaps during your stay or visit to Cozumel you can take a half-day trip to Cozumel's main Maya archeological site, San Gervasio. The site is located approximately in the center of the island just off of the Transversal, the road that takes you to the east side of the island. Though this ruin site is nowhere near the size or as impressive as the sites located on the mainland, it was once a very important site where Mayan woman paid tribute to the goddess of love & fertility. The site has bilingual guides, a snack bar as well as a gift shop. The entrance fee to San Gervasio is about $7USD.
