Lovely apartment in a breathtaking environment
The apartment belongs to a large compound (consortio) which used to be a holiday resort and is now privately owned by various people. Andrea's apartment is spacious for 4 people but can accommodate up to 6, clean, with a nice terrace (bring something against mosquitoes). The compound has a pool which we mostly used. It has also access to a rocky space by the sea (a bit difficult to reach, many steps). Porto Santo Stefano with its shops and restaurants is about 8 km away, you take the Via Panoramica which offers great views but is very curvy and narrow. Driving your car from the road down to the compound is quite an experience (not for the weak-hearted). We loved the stay and particularly our host Andrea who was very nice and easy-going and even showed us Florence when we made a 2-day-trip to see the place. Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano can be reached within 1,5 to 2 hours, Pisa, Florence, and Lucca are a bit further away. Recommended site nearby: Giardino dei Tarocchi in Capalbio (fantastic statues and buildings designed by Niki de Saint-Phalle). Some may also like to visit the hot springs at Saturnia (we didn't). The sea is great for snorkeling, and the area has many beaches (rocky ones and sandy ones, too). we liked the beach of Feniglia and the black beach of Torba which has more waves than the others.
