The cottage is heated by oil boiler (replaced in January 2023) with new 20 litre water storage.
The location is perfect for a relaxing break for couples or family or lone travellers. It is in easy reach of the River Moy for fishing, Ballina town, surfer beaches of Strand hill,Easkey and Enniscrone. The Wild Atlantic way is on your doorstep which is perfect for cyclists and there is even the Sligo Camino. Tubbercurry has it's own trail, perfect for young families and dog walkers. It's a 20-25 minute drive into Sligo town up the famous N17 which has a theatre, cinema, shopping and historical sites of interest. Beyond that you are in wonderful Yeates country and it's breathtaking scenery, walks, waterfalls and the beautiful Lough Gill. The cottage is about 1 hour drive from the border with Northern Ireland where you can explore Fermanagh lakes or visit Beleek pottery. It takes 3 hours to drive from Belfast International airport or 3.5 hours from Dublin airport.

A haven of peace and restoration

Cream cottage is comfortable and equipped with everything required for a relaxing and enjoyable stay, in a beautiful area, with a wonderful view of Knocknashee- the Hill of the Faeries. We were able to visit so many places during our stay. So much to see and do throughout the county, whatever you’d interest. Returning to the cottage each evening was lovely, sara was very responsive to any queries before and during our stay.

Lovely cottage

On arrival at the cottage it looked very tired compared to the pictures. The gate was all rusted, flacking paint on the front door, the gate was hanging off in parts and a large amount of weeds to the front. However, On entering the property it was lovely. Clean spacious and everything we needed for a few days. Kitchen well equipped and a good shower. The bedrooms a great size and ideal for a larger family too. Bed comfortable. The back garden really needed to be tended to as the weed theme continued to the back and an over grown garden. Whilst this was not a problem for us as we spent little time at the property, it could be for others especially if a family with kids and if a longer stay and more suitable garden furniture would be better ( chairs a little to low, but this is my personal preference). On balance we did enjoy the cottage it just needs a bit of TLC to the front and back and yes I would recommend it to others if you wish to stay in a ‘get a way from it all’ area. Lovely and peaceful and some nice views to the back. Good value for money.

Brilliant location - beaches not to far , mountains nearby for walking /climbing and mountain biking

It’s remote and hidden away which is what we like - beautiful old cottage and very snug if using it in colder weather . It was wonderful staying here .

Enjoyable stay in comfy house in rural location

A lovely stay in Sara's cosy cottage. Within striking distance of Tubbercurry, but still very rural. Enjoy the silence and serenity after spending the day sightseeing! Thanks for a lovely stay

Delightful cottagr

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cute and cosy cottage which was still spacious enough to accommodate my wife, myself and our four sons. Well situated for trips to the coast (we visited Standhill, Ross Strand and Mullaghmore) there is also much to explore if the weather is not so good e.g. National Museum of Country Life, King House and one of our favourites the seaweed baths at Inishcrone. We also drove out to Westport which needs no superlatives from and even as far as Blacksod in the Belmullet peninsula. All in all, a great time, many thanks to Sara for what is a very good value holiday home.

Pleasant cottage in a quiet rural location

My sister and I had an enjoyable few days in this pleasant cottage. The kitchen diner was light and bright and overlooked the large garden. The bedrooms were both a good size and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was small but adequate and the shower worked well. Overall, the cottage was warm and comfortable and suited us well. The owner was helpful and friendly and responded quickly when contacted.

Lovely little cottage

Directions were comprehensive and made the cottage easy to find. The accommodation was generally well equipped and it was lovely to have the opportunity to experience one of those cottages we often pass and wonder what they are like inside! Information from Sara was very useful including letting us know of the local fair whilst we were staying. Overall an excellent stay in cosy accommodation.

Lovely cottage in a very quiet place

Lovely place only a sort distance from the town , and beautiful scenery from the property. The only downside is that you have to take your rubbish to the dump yourself which puts a downer on the last day of your holiday

Cosy, homely and peaceful cottage with character

5 stars to Sara for ease of booking, speed of response and her helpful and detailed information and tips before we even arrived at the cottage. On arrival, everything was exactly as described. My husband and I plus our 4 children have just spent 3 nights at the cottage. We have had a super break, instantly felt at home and enjoyed being in the rural surroundings but still not too far from the town. It was a great value break - thanks so much and good luck with this new venture.

A peaceful and relaxing haven

From start to finish, our experience has been wonderful. Excellent service via the website and emails including thorough directions and introduction to the house. Fantastic location and properly equipped with everything necessary for a straightforward self-catering break. The whole family had a brilliant holiday in Sligo and we look forward to a return visit in the future.

Excellent Place to stay, greta value for money

This property was perfect in summary - great location, a little secluded but we like that - Excellent value for money, it was so cheap - The host was very efficient and extremely helpful - The accommodation was very comfortable and had lots of character - The town is close by and has everything you need in terms of restaurants, grocery stores, take-aways, pubs etc - The location is very good (between Sligo and Ballina in mayo) I could go on about this place, but my wife and two children (7 and 4) had a great stay here, we do hope to go back and have recommended to others

Great value, well equipped cottage, great for dogs.

Four of us plus two dogs stayed two nights in this well equipped cottage. We found it easily with the directions given, although directions from the north would have been helpful. There was room for both our cars on the drive and the garden was lovely. Big enough to keep our dogs amused, exploring every corner. The cottage has a lovely light, well equipped kitchen diner at the back with French doors opening on to a patio area with ample chairs for sitting out. The living room is cosy and both bedrooms a generous size. You do have to go through the first bedroom (low door on entering) to get to the second master bedroom. The bathroom is small with a low ceiling, but ample facilities. The nearest town of Tubbercurry was about 10 minutes by car with a good selection of takeaways. We loved the curry we got from The Jewel in the Crown.

pdf instructions

The location and accommodations are wonderful but the pdf instructions from the owner appear to be out-dated and a little confusing. The directions state that guests need to replace wood or peat used for the tiny stove in the living room - but there were no instructions on where to obtain the replacement fuel. It also seemed unreasonable to ask guests to take their garbage away with them (not just place in a bin outside, but take it away from the premises), and to check the electric meter upon arrival and departure so as to pay for the electricity used. Those sorts of services should just be included in the overall price of the stay in my opinion. Despite those slight confusions, we enjoyed our stay in the cottage and found the wildlife (birds and a fox) enchanting. The nights were extremely peaceful and the surroundings picturesque!

About the host

Hosted by Sara

Host profile image
My family are from Co Sligo and we can trace our lineage for over 510 years!
I am the last of the family and maintaining a link to this area and sharing the magic of the West is something I want to ensure is passed on to my children - hence why we bought this cottage

Why they chose this property

It's in a perfect spot! Far enough from the town for privacy and in easy reach of everything you need

What makes this property unique

It is a traditional cottage and the type of dwelling my grandfather and his parents were raised in. The fireplace is magnificent and I bet there were many yarns told by the light of the fire. Irish fairies are known in these areas and if you take a photo and see a bluish/green light, you might just have caught one!
