Beautiful cottage in amazing Lower Slaughter. Room sizes are great with especially sizy top bedroom. Beautiful outside seating area too where you can have a meal.
We enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage in Lower Slaughter. We had high tea at the Slaughter Manor, and walked the public trails. Host Alex was very good at communicating and even offered to mail back my AirPods I left behind.
Idyllic location in Lower Slaughter. The perfect place to experience the heart of the Cotswolds with Kiwi friends. Walking from the door. A well equipped kitchen. Pleasant outdoor space to sit in the evening. Communication with our host gave us all the information we needed. Plenty of hot water. Lovely en suites. Definitely recommend!Thank you

The location was fabulous ! You couldn’t ask for better. Gorgeous little village opposite a fabulous pub with loads of lovely surrounding dog walks. We had a great time which is why I gave 4 stars but I would only give the property 3 stars. The pictures are very deceiving, in fact I don’t think the lounge has any of the furniture in the picture at all. The replacement sofa is rigid and uncomfortable and the general condition of the property is very tired. Dirty walls, pealing paint and wall paper, stained carpets to name a few. The 3 beds are standard doubles so very small and the mattresses low quality. The bedding is clean but dated and over used. The top bedroom is hazardous with so many low beams. You have to get in and out the bed at the base or you’d hit your head. I did several times and I’m 5ft 4. I have a huge egg on my head ! The garden is nice but a lot smaller than it looks in pictures. The kitchen is great and very well kitted out with everything you need! If you have children and don’t want the stress of a perfect residence to keep immaculate it’s perfect. Quaint little cottage in need of some TLC !
Beautiful spacious house in lovely area. Nice walks and plenty of places nearby to visit.
A couple of niggles, the back doors are very difficult to open and close. The photos are a bit misleading and are out of date and don’t show an up to date condition of the property. Needs some TLC in our opinion but that didn’t spoil our break
Great house, in a great location. Perfectly situated for wandering the Cotswolds. Communication with host exactly as you need it. Cottage stocked with good variety of basics - washing up liquid, tea towels, dishwasher & washing machine tablets, toilet rolls etc and to top it off a nice bottle of fizz in the fridge! Absolutely perfect for a family and their dog 😊
Everything was as expected and lovely. The furnishings and rug are tired, mattresses not great but passable. Way too many chachkes, in my opinion, but others might like that sort of thing. Overall we had a great time. The kitchen is well fitted and the back garden is really nice. Lots of tourists but that’s what we are!
Overall very favourable, lovelly cootage in a lovelly location would definitely stay again.
Minor things to look at...bedroom sinks slow to empty, toilet seat in one of 1st floor bedrooms loose.Microwave would be good.
The property is perfectly placed but perhaps unluckily when we were there it was a cold snap and the heating broke. It took three of our four days to fix, and we were FREEZING. Less unluckily, the pictures on the website are very old, and the inside of the property is not quite as it's depicted. A shame as Lower Slaughter is beautiful, but I can't see any excuse for the outdated images.
Had a really nice time staying at the cottage with our friends to celebrate my birthday. I cant say there was anything wrong with the property, I just feel that the photographs are not a true reflection on the actual rooms. Some of the furnishings are different or not even there and what is there some are a bit tired or dirty. Considering the house sleeps 6 people there was not enough seating in the lounge for us all. These issues did not spoil our stay in this beautiful area.
This cottage is located in a charming picturesque village, it’s like walking into a fairytale! The cottage has a nice updated kitchen and beautiful backyard. Note, there are a lot of circular stairs that you must use to access all of the bedrooms…my 80 year old parents did well, but for anyone older with disabilities this could be an issue. Also a challenge for bringing luggage into the bedrooms. The cottage could use some updates…carpet is stained in several places and the middle bath sink is cracked, also the toilet seat is a bit of a slip and slide! Showers are nice size in 2 of the bedrooms. Very clean, cute sitting room and great breakfast area. For Fall/Winter months it would be ideal to provide detailed instructions on how to use the thermostat, as in the evenings the cottage felt damp and cold. Overall a great English Cottage experience! Lovely Inn located in the village…great pub and restaurant!
Pictures do not do Lower Slaughter justice. It's even more adorable than it looks! We took many walks around the village and on the footpaths. Our favorite day was walking to Upper Slaughter for afternoon tea at Lords of the Manor, which was excellent. Early morning and evening were the best times for walking the village, because daytime lookie loos were gone. Disappointingly, the Old Mill store was closed during our visit.
The cottage was the best of both worlds - a classic old, charming, cozy cottage but with a modern kitchen. Furniture was comfy including the mattresses. We played Scrabble and read in the living room, comfortable and relaxing. The garden could use a little tending but was lovely nonetheless to sit outside with privacy in the fresh air and sunshine. The mattresses were comfortable, and there were plenty of places to store clothes etc. This is truly a darling, darling cottage.
Alex the property manager was very nice, easily accessible, and helpful both before and during our stay. Good man and nice fellow.
My only suggestion is to deep clean stains on carpets and upholstery, to recover from normal use and pet accidents.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS AREA AND THIS COTTAGE!
Not the easiest to locate as the nameplate was obscured by foliage, but once we found the cottage, we were instantly charmed, think ‘The Holiday’.
The property description was more or less accurate with a decent kitchen. It was clean enough and the bedding was fresh. Lots of good white towels. However, the cottage could do with a little maintenance, the patio doors were difficult to open and close, no microwave, no workable shaving mirror in top floor wet room, the top floor sink wasn’t draining and the sink in the master on the first floor was cracked. The windows upstairs needed a good clean too so the stunning views can be seen.
All these points are easily fixed and they didn’t stop us enjoying our short stay. Lovely secure garden for our furry boy too.
Cottage is superbly situated for walks and short rides to neighbouring villages. All very quaint.
The pub opposite was excellent but pricey, however, the bar tender (lovely helpful chap) was telling guests the price first, so I assume they’ve had a few complaints?? -an Aperol and all spirits were £16 - we sampled the sharing platter and the croquettes and these were scrumptious.
Would we return? Yes!
Had a lovely stay with my boyfriend and 3 daughters they loved it my favourite part of the Cotswolds
All facilities were great apart from no microwave
But we would all stay again
Fantastic house with all you could need set in a beautifully quant village. Ideal location with ability to travel to nearby desired locations in the Cotswold’s.
Only negative was how difficult it was to find - we ended up in the wrong Slaughter (our fault), but when we found the right Slaughter the name plate on the wall was covered by ivy and therefore we only found the house due to the help of a local. However, the property manager answered our call, though he was unable to help direct us to the house, and once we did arrive, the house was perfect for us! Great attic bathroom, though we all bumped our heads a few times on the sloped ceiling. Very well stocked, updated kitchen. A bit confusing and very slow washer and dryer, so don't count on doing lots of laundry there, but a beautiful setting, comfortable beds, and awesome water pressure in the showers. We'd definitely stay again!
We arrived at Pound Cottage at around 5pm on a Sunday evening after a very long drive from the Lake District where we had just held our wedding in a wonderful hotel over the weekend. Sadly we were very disappointed with what we found. The cottage had a lingering smell of greasy food, it was cold and not at all as the photographs and the description on the listing suggested. On further inspection we found the fixtures and fittings were not 'luxurious' at all, in fact they were very shabby and dirty. The living room furniture is completely different, indeed the large, plush velvet sofa shown in the photos has been replaced with a tiny and very badly stained one, so much so we didn't even want to sit on it. The bedrooms are very sparsely furnished and the bedding and towels have seen better days. The wardrobes were very old and rickety with an interesting assortment of hangers! The overall cleanliness of the place left a lot to be desired. I could go on but I think the reader will get the picture.
We left at 6.30pm, we didn't want to spend another minute there so we drove another 2+ hours home to Cheshire. The following morning I informed Alex the Property Manager that we had chosen not to stay as we were so disappointed with what we found. He was nonplussed, but then he had just made quite a lot of money for absolutely nothing so there you go.
There are plenty of cottages to rent in the area, I only wish we had gone with one of the others. Please don't let yourself be mislead by this listing and choose another.
A great cottage in a very pretty village giving easy access to the Cotswolds.

Quaint Cotswold Cottage
The cottage itself was very cute and quaint as was the surrounding area. It must be noted that this is a very touristy area and the cottage had the feeling of being rented out a lot and could use a little freshening up inside. The beds and pillows were also a little uncomfortable. The kitchen was very nice and the garden was lovely. One thing to be aware of is that the area is pretty remote, and there is not much within walking distance other then a hotel. No restaurants or local stores to get milk, everything was a 15 - 20 minute drive.
