About this property

Charming Character 17th Century Village Stone House near Uzes, South of France

Our romantic and spacious Provencal stone village house with exposed stone walls and vaulted ceilings is situated in a charming village with a Bar, Boulangerie and Cafe. Our village is next to the river Gardon, La Baume and the Garrigue, a lovely area for leisure activities; walking, mountain biking, bird spotting etc. The delightful medieval Provencal town of Uzès in the Gard region is 7 minutes drive away. Visit famous Roman sites, such as the Pont du Gard , Avignon, Orange, Nimes, Arles, Montpellier, Marseille, and across the Rhone, the Luberon and Provence with its lavender fields, Aix-de-Provence and beyond, as well as all of the Cote D'Azur.
With two sitting rooms for your comfort, the house also enjoys a private courtyard garden and a large second floor terrace. Dine in the ancient original wine cave or in the large farmhouse kitchen, equipped with everything a cook desires.
The exposed stone walls and vaulted ceilings are unique, and with fabric covered walls in the master bedroom, mullioned window and the en suite, you will be very comfortable. The house is beautifully furnished with antiques, paintings, artefacts and Oriental carpets. With central heating, it is also perfect for Christmas, as well as early/late season.
In the hot season you have full air conditioning in both bedrooms, as well as an extra ceiling cooling fan in the master bedroom. You will be very comfortable, sleeping in a super-king (6ft wide) zip linked bed, which can be also be divided into two separate beds, if needed. The second bedroom has two single beds, which can also be made up as a large double bed. You'll enjoy enchanting evenings from our terrace, enjoying a glass of wine, watching swifts and house martins engaging in their dance of flight, with numerous stars above you.

A few minute drive will take you to supermarkets and the local Wine Cave, and on to the lovely medieval town of Uzès, with its handsome tall French Patrician houses, a maze of narrow little roads , and you can visit the Duchy of Uzes.

Uzès sparkles like no other, a magical and original Provencal town with its famous twice weekly market, that snakes through a maze of cobbled lanes before flowing into the ancient Place aux Herbes. Blissful local countryside laps at the town’s walls and you can drop down from the cathedral and follow a path all the way out to the Pont du Gard, a 1st-century Roman aqueduct, which is one of the most visited historical sights of France

Also, if you enjoy walking, visit the local Nature reserve Goron, in the heart of the Gorges du Gardon massif, next to our village, Sanilhac-Sagriès. There are several hiking trails for you to explore. The 491 hectares classified Reserve are located largely on the left bank of the river, between the Pont Saint Nicolas and the town of Collias. It is a real jewel of nature.
The wide variety of natural environments (garrigue, cavities, forests, rivers, cliffs) offer refuge to an exceptional biodiversity. No less than 1200 plant and animal species are listed on the site, some of which are rare or protected. Added to this is an extremely rich cultural heritage: oppidum, dry stone walls, chapel, mills, coal mines, and the hermitage and cave of St Vérédème.
Avignon and the lavender fields in the Luberon (June to August) near Mont Ventaux, and the Roman Town of Nîmes are easily reached by car. There are many GR hiking trails and footpaths in the immediate vicinity of our village, plus golf courses, horse riding, and a lovely large swimming pool in Uzes. Walk down the Gorge and swim in crystal clear waters of the river Gardon, and in the next village, Collias, you can also swim in the river, kayak and canoe down, abseil the gorges, or do quad biking.

You can reach Montpellier, Arles, Aix de Provence, the Cevennes and the Camargue with its gorgeous sandy beaches, all within one hours’ drive.

Fabulous 17th/18th century house with creature comforts!
My husband and I stayed here for 2 wks. This very small village has charm, one boulangerie and one restaurant. We really wanted to have a quiet home from where we could venture out when desired. When we were "home" we really appreciated having two comfortable and beautiful outdoor options: the roof top terrace or terrace outside the kitchen door because the weather was stunning. The house is well equipped (even the knives were sharp). The ONLY draw backs would be if going up and down stairs are difficult OR if you are taller than we are (5 ft 5 inches) because some doorways are not tall. The owners Inge and Robert were great communicators and stayed in touch with us as they were in the UK. They told us about their neighbor who speaks English and he arrived to greet us upon our arrival and bid us adieu when we left.

great atmosphere; great stay
This is a great house to slow down and have a great time. It´s even better than shown on the picture. A great place to relax and hang around but still not far away from the cities for sight seeing.

Photos can’t do it justice
This is a lovely house but difficult to take good photos of as it’s so quirky. Yet it’s very comfortable especially the beautiful vaulted living room and master bedroom/ bathroom. I chose it chiefly because it looked like the kitchen is well-equipped, which it is, with thoughtful touches like good big mugs. I had feared the living and ding rooms would be cold with all that stone but, in September when it was very hot outside they were very comfortable. It is in a pretty, non-touristy village, in easy walking distance of an excellent boulangerie. In an area with lots to do and see.
