Native Hawaiian canoes also race In winter time you can watch the whales come in to calve and teach their young to swim and play. Haleakala, and full moon shimmering on the ocean framed by swaying palm trees. Relax by the pool, or in our lovely condo with our guest amenities, and go home refreshed with the Aloha spirit of our condo.
The condo was renovated December 2014 and has all new furnishings and kitchen equipment, granite counters, ice maker in the fridge, a large pantry, and small appliances. There is also a washer dryer combination unit in the kitchen which works like a charm. New dishes and glassware make entertaining or cozy dining fun. You also have a pillow topped queen bed with luxurious sheets, and a couch with memory foam mattress for a great sleep listening to the waves roll, if you prefer to have guests stay. Flat screen Blue Ray TV and DVD/CD in the living room, and boogie boards and snorkel equipment await you on the lanai. Dimmer switch lighting, high boy table and chairs create a great view of the ocean and romantic ambiance for outdoor dining on the lanai. Bathroom has marble vanity, and lovely walk in shower.
Island Sands has barbecue grills for outdoor cooking, and tables in the pool area for gatherings, an outdoor shower, and a car washing area. It is located within walking distance of several good restaurants, which are across from Maalaea Harbor where you can go out on dolphin and whale watching excursions, sunset cruises, or snorkeling/diving adventures. Maalaea is centrally located in Maui so it is an easy drive to great places to explore such as the Haleakala National Park, Haiku/Paia ( wind surfing and other water sports), Ulapalakua local winery, Lahaina/Kaanapali and Keihei for shopping and night life, Kahului for the Maui Cultural Arts Center and more.
Jim and I love to entertain and meet people from all over the world. We have travelled to Europe, China, India, Fiji, Tanzania, while living in North Carolina but when we came to Maui, we realized the beauty and rejuvenating power of this lovely island and it's people. We would like to share the Aloha with you by 'sharing our home' at #410 Island Sands.
Bridget Bongaard purchased this condo in 2014
We came to Maui and fell in love with Maalaea. The Island Sands Condo building is stunning, being literally right on the ocean with a private beach, the grounds and pool were so well maintained and the location was so convenient to most of the fun activities on Maui. When we first walked in the front door of the unit the view of the ocean and palm trees stopped us in our tracks. We couldn't believe the beauty and serentiy of the view, and bought the property though it had not been renovated in many years. We gutted the unit, put in all new furniture, appliances, kitchen and bath to restore it for maximum comfort, and serenity. We especially love the outdoor living with the private lanai, with high boy furniture that allow you to see the sweeping views while having a meal or cocktail. We added adjustable lighting at night for an intimate dinner or drinks. Pure magic.
The sleeper sofa has a tempurpedic mattress for maximum comfort and the waves lull you to sleep in this bed. The master bed has a queen sized luxury mattress and pillows with 600 thread count sheets to give a sweet sleep. Air conditioning, cieling fans are rarely needed with the cool breezes that flow through the home. The kitchen has all new appliances, with microwave, and a terrific washer dryer unit. The granite bar seats 4 and adjacent to the kitchen, allowing great chats when meals are prepared in the kitchen, and is perfect for buffet type parties. Flat screen TV in living room, and CD/DVD player for home entertainment. Boogie boards for body surfing, beach towels, are there for instant fun at your private beach.
The condo was cozy, well-equipped, & clean! Also very centrally located on Maui.
We've been to all of the islands many times and Maui is the favorite. Usually stay in Kihei but wanted to try something different this time. This condo is lovely! Great view, plenty of room, lots of extra personal touches like, boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach chairs and towels, etc. Walking distance to a lot of places to eat and shop. It's also nice to be able to have contact with the people who own the place. They are very helpful and it's obvious they want they're guests to enjoy there time here. When returning, this is somewhere we will definitely stay again!!
Aloha and Mahalo
My partner and I arrived for a week's stay and could not have had a better experience. The condo was exactly as listed and if possible, the view was better than advertised. We made use of the snorkel equipment (all of the beach equip. was in good condition)& the diving/snorkel map was invaluable to assist us in where to go based on what was scheduled for the day.
Pros: Not having to take a key! The door has a number lock, so no key to have to remember (or lose).
New & tastefully decorated/remodeled. Nothing personal or overdone with decor.
Small area w/ community chairs near the water. Beach is rocky there, so you wouldn't want to swim off the property, but if you have one of the SUP or Kayak delivery places deliver to you at the condo, it would be a good launch & paddling area.
Speaking of sandy beaches, there is one (end of street) at Haycraft Park & has miles of sand for a long walk or a swim in calm waters. I would avoid the park as dusk approaches as it fills up with locals and the atmosphere seems to change (we experienced this 3 times, so assume it is a regular thing). During the day, it is perfect, though - safe & private.
There are 2 restaurants within walking distance (a nicer, upscale place and a burgers&beers place w/ nightly music) as well as a large convenience store/gas station. There is also mini golf and the Maui Ocean Center about 0.5 away. Also, the harbor has a few companies that do fishing, snorkeling and eco cruises.
The complex is very quiet, which we loved/prized. We only saw one kid the whole time and there was no loud music or smoking on site. No large resorts for miles in either direction so everything feels very private.
Kihei was close and has a Safeway & Foodland grocery store and several restaurants and beaches. It is also a nice town and much better (in my opinion) than Lahaina. If you’re in to nightlife and/or will want to Uber/take cabs, this condo’s location might not be for you. The drive to Lahaina is beautiful, but it was further than I’d want to drive (every day), so I was glad I preferred Kihei. The location is quick in regards to getting to and from the airport.
For us, no cons to staying here. We loved it and like I said, unless you really want nightlife of and not have to drive far, I think this should be considered a perfect location and not just for the view. Bridget and Jim were excellent hosts with great communication and the coffee, chocolates and sparking wine were so appreciated. A big mahalo again!
Combine Southern Hospitality with Hawaiian Aloha and you have an idea of the warmth and attention to detail that Bridget and Jim give their guests and have lavished on their condo. Not only did we find Champagne, Chocolates, and Flowers waiting for us, but the condo was furnished with everything from spices to a copy of the most popular tourist book about Maui. We had brought coffee filters, plastic bags, etc. but we didn't need them. The condo was very clean and decorated just as beautifully as the pictures show. Bridget was so helpful with everything from our booking to every question we had. The view from the lanai is breathtaking. It is very centrally located to many of the places we wanted to visit. We ate many of our meals there and watched sunrises as well as the turtles swim. The pictures can't reveal how really close to the water you are. We watched the turtles swim and relaxed on the lanai everyday. We went for an early anniversary trip and were not disappointed. We hope to go back and are so grateful that we had the opportunity to stay in this wonderful home. Thank you, thank you, and thank you, Bridget and JIm.
The view from the lanai out to the ocean is spectacular enough but combine it with the daily visit from the feeding turtles it's incredible. The apartment is nicely appointed and very convenient to everything on the South side of Maui.
The condo was very clean and looked to have been recently updated. The views from the back deck are amazing and you are literally less than 20 feet from the ocean! It doesn't get much better then this! We loved the central location of the condo it allowed us to get pretty much anywhere we needed to go in 20 - 30 minutes. The condo area is very quiet and very clean. I would strongly recommend staying at this place!
Your condo is in a very central location and about 15-20 minutes from most amenities, and other adventures can be found on Maui within a 30 minute drive. The winery is about 45 min drive but worth exploring as part of an Up Country Tour. Famous windsurfing town of Paia, is delightful, and most water sports can be done in Maalaea, as well as Kihei nearby. The famous Mamma's Fish House is a sure treat for old Hawaiian dining, and you are right at the Maalaea harbor where you can go on dinner or snorkeling cruises. There is all kinds of adventure and fun on this island, and your condo is perfectly located to make these an easy 1/2 day or day trip.
